Abstract: Network entity, method and computer-readable storage medium for use in a network that includes an arrangement of cell sites, each cell site being configured to provide wireless services to users within a respective coverage region. The network entity comprises an input configured to receive position information regarding occurrence of an event at an event site, and a processing entity configured to determine on a basis of the position information regarding occurrence of the event and policy information regarding the network, whether the event warrants coverage region reconfiguration and, if so, to generate a message commanding an adjustment to the coverage region of at least one cell site. An output is configured to release the message towards the at least one cell site, whereby application of the adjustment to the coverage region of the at least one cell site enables an increase in traffic to be accommodated in a vicinity of the event site.

Abstract: Methods and systems for discovering and managing devices connected to InfiniBand ports are provided. The discovery may be performed by an end node, such that the end node interoperates with all standard InfiniBand components. Specific actions that are vendor unique, and potentially not compliant with the InfiniBand architecture, may not be done until after the discovery is complete and it has been verified that the noncompliant action will only be directed to entities known to be capable of processing them. These actions may include assuming the configuration responsibilities that would have been performed by the Subnet Manager in a standard InfiniBand network.

Abstract: A method is provided for determining the length of node-to-node links in a computer network. The method includes measuring the forwarding time for each node-to-node link in the network, eliminating queuing time from each forwarding time measurement, determining and subtracting store-forward time from each forwarding time measurement, determining and subtracting execution time from each forwarding time measurement to obtain a propagation time for a signal being transmitted on each node-to-node link and, based upon the propagation time for each node-to-node link, calculating a length of each node-to-node link. A network map may also be derived by identifying internal nodes in the network, translating each store-forward time into a hop count, constructing a connectivity map of the network including a connection map of internal nodes and superimposing the calculated link lengths onto the connectivity map to determine cable length between any internal nodes with more than two connections.

Abstract: To obtain ring-type network that is capable of sensing a change in the structure of a lower layer network when there is a change, and to obtain a fairness execution program for the ring-type network, which can implement the fairness function in a fine manner even in such case. Each of RPR devices of an RPR network includes a timer, and transmits a periodic transmission request of an LRTT control frame to an LRTT control frame transmitter via an arbitrating part so that the transmitter sends the LRTT control frame to each RPR device regularly. An LRTT control frame receiver receives the returned LRTT control frame, and a round trip propagation time calculator calculates round trip propagation time from a difference between the transmitted time and the received time, and gives the result to a fairness execution part. Thereby, a fine operation of the fairness function is secured.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for transport format combination restriction in a high speed downlink packet access (HSDPA) system. An enhanced transport format combination (E-TFC) table is split into sub-tables. A wireless transmit/receive unit (WTRU) selects one of the sub-tables and a window within the selected sub-table to search. The WTRU then determines whether or not a first element in the search window is blocked. If the first element in the search window is blocked, then the WTRU assumes that all of the elements in the selected sub-table are blocked. If the first element in the search window is not blocked, the WTRU then determines whether a last element in the search window is blocked. If the last element is not blocked, the WTRU assumes that all elements smaller than or equal to the last element are not blocked, and all elements greater than the last element are blocked. If the last element is blocked, the size of the search window is reduced until it is determined that the last element is not blocked.

Abstract: The invention can establish a default retransmission algorithm and an interference retransmission algorithm. The default retransmission algorithm can be a Distributed Coordination Function (DCF) based algorithm implemented in a MAC layer in conformance with an IEEE 802.11 based standard. The minimum cumulative back-off time for the default transmission algorithm can be less a minimum cumulative back-off time for the interference retransmission algorithm. The minimum cumulative back-off time for the interference retransmission algorithm can be greater than an on-cycle of the PII and less than a sum of the one and off-cycles of the PII (e.g., between ˜8.3 ms and ˜16.7 ms for microwave oven generated PII). A determination can be made whether periodic intermittent interference is present. If so, the default retransmission algorithm can be automatically utilized for wireless data conveyances. When PII is present, the interference retransmission algorithm can be automatically utilized.

Abstract: Methods, systems, and devices are described for intelligently routing network data in satellite communication networks based on parametric sensitivities. Some embodiments of the invention provide methods, systems, and devices for routing data based on the latency-sensitivity of the data and multiple networks in a network environment. Some of these embodiments also provide for voice-over-internet-protocol capabilities to provide a network environment which allows for high throughput and low physical latency, without tying up a phone line. Other embodiments of the invention provide methods, systems, and devices for routing data based on the parametric-sensitivity of the data and multiple networks in a network environment.

Abstract: Carrier frequency selection is enabled in transmitting packet data between a radio transceiver and a mobile station and in a wireless communication network with shared packet data service. The packet data service permits transmission of packet data along a packet data link comprising a plurality of shared packet data channels, such as that provided by the N×EV-DO protocol. Each channel is characterized by a unique carrier frequency. Packet data may be divided and transmitted among the plurality of channels. Packet data may be transmitted along a first of the plurality of channels. Upon receiving a negative acknowledgement indicative of an erroneous packet transmission in accordance with known error control schemes such as HARQ, retransmission data may be transmitted along a second of the plurality of channels. As multiple carrier frequencies are used to transmit packet data and retransmission data, frequency diversity is added to time diversity inherent in retransmission protocols.

Abstract: A system and method for implementing a “lossless” transition from an idle state to an active or awake state in a mobile station. When a mobile station informs a serving base transceiver station that it is switching to an idle state, a virtual handover is executed, with the mobile station receiving a new Care of Address (CoA). The CoA is taken from an address space that is solely reserved for idle mobile station in a particular access network. The CoA is used to store data packets that are to be transmitted to the mobile station. Once the mobile station reenters an active state, the buffered packets can be forwarded to the mobile station without packet loss.

Abstract: An apparatus and method for efficient transitions between operating states in a communication network, includes a preliminary step of having a mobile station in a Dormant or Idle state. A next step includes requiring a data transfer, either to or from the mobile station. A next step includes transitioning the mobile station from the Dormant or Idle to an Active state. A next step includes transferring a bearer path context for the data from a Paging Control Function (PCF) to an RF Bearer Function. This can include creating a tunnel using an Inter-PCF handoff procedure. The result is a direct connection between an RF Bearer Function and an IP Router, without the PCF being in the data path.

Abstract: A base station comprises a radio port cluster and a switch/router. Instead of passively following the order from a client terminal, the WiFi base station plays the major role in a hand-over process. The base station will monitor the client terminal signal strength and negotiate with other base stations for the client terminal connection including authentication and authorization. When the client terminal's signal strength is changing, the base station will send out a request to other base stations to report signal strength and trend of this particular client terminal. Based on reported signal strength and trend, a determination is made as to which of the other base stations should take over the servicing of the client terminal. The authentication is then forwarded to this base station.

Abstract: The present invention is directed to a system and method which mobile devices can be handed from one access point to another while maintaining continuous communication with a network and without changing the device's IP address. In an embodiment, when a device is leaving the air interface range of its home access point, it establishes a connection with an intermediary access point. In an embodiment, the communications from the network are directed to the original access point using the original IP address for the device, and forwarded to the device via the intermediary access point. Communications from the device are routed through the intermediary access point and then either directly to the network, or else through the home access point to the network. The IP address handoff is repeated between intermediary access points until the device either returns to the home access point or ceases communication with the network.
