Publication number: 20080156536Abstract: In one aspect of the invention a drill bit comprises an axis of rotation a body and a working face. The body comprises a fluid passageway with a first seat and houses a jack element substantially coaxial with the axis. A stop element is disposed within the passageway and has a first near-sealing surface. The jack element has a shaft intermediate an indenting end and a valve portion. The valve portion has a second near-sealing surface disposed adjacent the first near-sealing surface and a second seat disposed adjacent the first seat. As a formation strongly resists the jack element, the distance between the sealing surfaces narrows. This causes an increase in fluid pressure within the passageway and forces the indenting end down into the formation. This movement of the jack element relieves the pressure build up such that the formation pushes the jack element back, thereby oscillating the jack element.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 3, 2007Publication date: July 3, 2008Inventors: David R. Publication number: 20080156563Abstract: A motorcycle is provided with a compact, lightweight power unit that allows for increased maneuverability and increased bank angles while turning. The power unit includes an engine and transmission integrated into a single unit. Often, the balance and maneuverability of a motorcycle are influenced by the heaviest components of the vehicle, such as the engine or power unit. The present advantage is accomplished by providing the power unit with a water pump, oil pump and transmission which are balanced on the motorcycle, limiting the weight variations and protrusions from the motorcycle. This results in allowing the motorcycle to achieve greater bank angles for better turning speeds and maneuverability. It desirable to keep the vehicle center of gravity as low as possible in a motorcycle which is likely to lean steeply around corners. The present arrangement provides the vehicle with a lower center of gravity thereby increasing maneuverability.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 26, 2007Publication date: July 3, 2008Applicant: Honda Motor Co., Ltd.Inventors: Tomoo Shiozaki, Toshimasa Mitsubori, Masahiro Shimizu

The method assists in the rapid design of emissions component installations by: interpreting a tube design input which may be an exhaust pipe with one or more aftertreatment components, calculating a final tube design and tube drawing, determining the manufacturability of the final tube design, determining the manufacturing cost of the final tube design, and displaying the drawing, manufacturability result, and manufacturing cost to a user. The method also evaluates the final tube design for portions that can be replaced with a more cost effective alternative. The method also receives the emissions reduction features of the installation from the user, and recommends secondary components to mitigate operational consequences, such as reduced fuel economy or reduced oil change intervals, of the emissions reduction features.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 29, 2006Publication date: July 3, 2008Inventors: John W. Publication number: 20080156570Abstract: A vehicle body includes a pair of left and right main frames extending rearwardly from a front portion of the vehicle body and a seat extending rearwardly from a substantially central portion for providing seating for an occupant. A trunk is provided on the rear side of the seat for storing luggage with a backrest mounted to a front wall of the trunk for supporting the back of the occupant. The occupant includes a rider and a passenger, and the seat includes a front seating portion for the rider and a rear seating portion for the passenger arranged in tandem in the longitudinal direction of the vehicle body. A pair of left and right rear frames for supporting the trunk extend to a position below the rear seating portion, so that the load of the passenger sitting on the rear seating portion is borne by the rear frames.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 30, 2007Publication date: July 3, 2008Applicant: HONDA MOTOR CO., LTD.Inventors: Hidemi Minami, Koichi Nozoe

Publication number: 20080156571Abstract: A swing arm structure, in a shaft-driven vehicle, is configured and arranged compactly to minimize the size and weight thereof. A drive shaft of the vehicle is housed in a right arm portion of a swing arm. A front end of the drive shaft is connected to a powertrain output shaft via a universal joint. A pivot sleeve is disposed such that a central axis thereof is disposed downwardly and rearwardly of a central portion of the universal joint, and a front-end opening protrudes forwardly of the pivot sleeve. The central portion of the universal joint, having the largest diameter, is disposed forwardly of the center of a pivot shaft. This helps to keep the opening diameter small at the front of the right arm portion.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 18, 2007Publication date: July 3, 2008Applicant: Honda Motor Co., Ltd.Inventors: Kenji Kofuji, Koichi Nozoe

Publication number: 20080156572Abstract: A vehicle steering device and method for preventing steering wheel pull. A selectively engageable clutch is positioned between a steering wheel and a turning mechanism for turning at least one steered wheel. The clutch includes an engaging piece and has an engaged position where the steering wheel is mechanically connected to the turning mechanism and a disengaged position where the steering wheel is mechanically separated from the turning mechanism and steer-by-wire controls the at least one steered wheel. When the clutch is moved from the engaged position to the disengaged position, clutch release control is performed that provides a rotational angle of deviation between a steering wheel shaft connected to the steering wheel and the turning mechanism, the rotational angle of deviation provided in the direction of disengagement.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 6, 2007Publication date: July 3, 2008Applicant: NISSAN MOTOR CO., LTD.Inventors: Toshiaki Kasahara, Yuusuke Katou, Junji Tsutsumi, Kenichi Mori

Publication number: 20080156576Abstract: In a process for producing a loudspeaker diaphragm, pulp is deposited on a paper-making mold in the presence of vortex stream of water having pulp dispersed therein in a paper-making bath. Pulp is deposited on the paper-making mold while at least the water having pulp dispersed therein is rotated by the vortex stream in the paper-making bath. Consequently, variation of pulp fiber orientation is suppressed, and a loudspeaker diaphragm with high reproducibility and stable quality is produced with a high productivity.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 23, 2006Publication date: July 3, 2008Applicant: Matsushita Electric Industrial Co., Ltd.Inventors: Takashi Suzuki, Shinya Mizone
