Abstract: Improved responsiveness and reduced latency of media playback on a media player is achieved by dynamic adjustment of storage parameters for the jitter buffer in the media player. Decreasing the size of the jitter buffer to a smaller constant value may provide acceptable, starvation-free playback in many cases. Playback of more demanding files requiring more buffered data for decode are addressed by dynamic adjustment of the jitter buffer parameters. An algorithmic or heuristic process is used to dynamically set the size of the jitter buffer before and during media playback. The jitter buffer size and/or preroll duration may be adjusted based upon the quality of playback experience. If playback starves, the jitter buffer size, starvation threshold, and/or preroll duration is increased before rebuffering and resuming playback.

Abstract: A multi-computer system and configuration method therefor are provided, which are suitable for use in configuring multi-computer systems into operating in combination. The respective computer system is provided with at least one processor and a plurality of electronic devices to form a computer system that can operate independently. By operating in combination, it indicates that to combine the various computer systems and their respective system resources to function and operate as a single computer system. The main feature of the method lies in connecting the various computer systems, and determining and selecting whether the computer systems operate independently or in combination by making use of a switch. The method includes the steps of (a) the client transmits a test connection request to the server to establish a connection controlled by the file transfer protocol, (b) after receiving the test connection request, the server establishes the connection controlled by the file transfer protocol, and (c) a connection is established by the server between the client and the server to transfer the test file and perform the performance test of the file transfer protocol. Abstract: A method, system and apparatus of contextual persona management in a communication medium to enhanced relationship based interaction are disclosed. In one embodiment, a method of a communication system includes creating a persona profile having contacts of a user in a specific context of expression generating in the persona profile, representations of contacts and interest groups between the user and the contacts shifting a pane between the persona profile and other persona profiles while maintaining a relationship between the user and a particular contact which is independent of the persona profile and the other persona profiles. In addition, the method may include juggling between different contracts in each of the persona profiles based on at least one of a behavior of the user. One system embodiment includes a conversation manager that provides access to communication applications, that provides lifecycle management for an electronic conversation carried on over the communication applications, and that organizes conversation elements belonging to a conversation carried on using the communication applications. The conversation lifecycle may include pausing and resuming a conversation carried on, at least in part, over a synchronous, online, real-time, communication application. Abstract: A method for providing a group chat service includes: creating a chat group including a first member and one or more second members; establishing a P2P connection to each of the second members; receiving audio data uploaded from the second members through the P2P connections; mixing the audio data received and audio data of the first member to generate mixed audio data and transmitting the mixed audio data to the second members through the P2P connections by the first member; receiving by the second members the mixed audio data. The present invention also discloses a system for providing a group chat service. According to the present invention, text chat and audio chat are handled differently, thus the network bandwidth requirement and computer hardware requirement of group chat for forwarding the audio data are lowered, and the data volume transmitted by the network is reduced.

Abstract: Systems, methods and media for screening member messages in an instant messaging environment are disclosed. In one embodiment, chat messages are stored as communications requests in a queue. A user-specified chat limit determines the maximum number of chats that may be taking place concurrently. When the chat limit is reached, additional requests received are placed in the queue, waiting to be processed. When a chat terminates, a next-out request is received from the queue and processed. Also, a user may specify a priority for each of a plurality of members in a communications network. A request from a user with special priority may be advanced to the head of the queue to be processed immediately.

Abstract: The present invention is a system for ensuring client access to paired and unpaired response messages. In the system, the server detects one or more unpaired message which are stored in a data structure on the server. The data structure may be created when the server is started or automatically when the first unpaired message is identified. The system then uses a communications protocol between the client and server which allows the client to request one or more of the stored unpaired messages. The system of the present invention uses a request module configured to receive a client request and prepare the client request for a response generator. The response generator receives the client request from the request module and generates an appropriate response. Next, an unpaired message module analyzes the response message generated by the response generator and distinguishes a paired message from an unpaired message.

Abstract: Described is a technology by which a server automatically configures itself for adding to an existing network. Upon connection to the network, the server obtains settings including existing subnet and gateway IP addresses from a DHCP assigned IP configuration (e.g., a router). The server uses the settings to automatically configure itself to dynamically provide addresses similar to the previous scope to clients. In one implementation, the server software sets its network card set to a static IP address state while the server is configured, and thereafter sets the network card to a dynamic state. The router is disabled during server configuration, and re-enabled thereafter, whereby the server DHCP service instead of the router DHCP service assigns the addresses. The server may also attempt to automatically connect to the Internet.

Abstract: Described is a technology by which network server software has an interface into which a plurality of software router providers, that have methods to configure routers, may be plugged in. The network server software communicates with each provider to determine each of the provider's capabilities with respect to configuring a connected network router. A router provider is chosen based on that provider's capabilities in order to configure the router. In one example implementation, a router configuration component of the network software passes an IP address of the router to each provider and receives a score in return that indicates that provider's capabilities with respect to configuring the connected router. The provider with the best score is chosen for use in configuring the router. The score is built from weighted values, with more weight given to the capabilities deemed more valuable to users who need to configure routers.
