Abstract: A guide rod system movably connects a trunk lid to a vehicle such that the lid is movable between a base position in which the lid covers a trunk of the vehicle, a luggage storage position in which the rear of the lid is raised relative to the trunk, and a roof transport position in which the front of the lid is raised relative to the trunk. The guide rod system includes first and second guide rods and a coupler. The first guide rod is respectively connected at opposite ends to the front of the lid and the vehicle. The second guide rod is respectively connected at opposite ends to the rear of the lid and the vehicle. The coupler is connected between the guide rods to actuate the guide rods to move the lid between the base, luggage storage, and roof transport positions.

Abstract: A three-piece roof assembly is provided for racing cars in which the two side members are fixedly supported on the frame of the vehicle and the center member is positionable at a selectable canted angle relative to the side members. The center member is formed with laterally extended flanges that overlap the side members to maintain structural integrity between the center member and the respective side members. The canting of the center member creates a gap that varies in width from front to rear. The process for canting a race car roof is significantly simplified and involves fixing the side members to the frame of the vehicle, then positioning the center member at the desired angular orientation, and fixing the center member relative to the side members. The variable width gap between the center member and the side members can be filled with weld material and painted.

Abstract: In a hydraulic brake system with anti-lock control, noise is reduced during ABS control by controlling the flow rate of high-pressure fluid from the master brake cylinder (2) to the wheel brakes (15, 16). This is accomplished by placing an analog or pulse-width modulated NO valve (40) in the brake line between the connection of the pressure side of the hydraulic pump (35) and the inlet valve (20,27) to the wheel brake. By this means, only one analog or analogized valve is needed per brake circuit as opposed to two if the inlet valves were analog valves. In brake systems with traction control or electronic stability control, a shut-off valve is already present in this location. Thus replacing the existing valve with an analog or quasi-analog valve is easy.

Abstract: A method and system is provided for detecting and performing diagnostics regarding an incipient ground fault that may occur in an electrical propulsion system of a traction vehicle, such as a locomotive, transit vehicle, or off-highway vehicle. The method allows providing a first ground connection for the electrical propulsion system. This first ground connection forms a grounding path generally used by the electrical propulsion system during normal operation. The method further allows providing a second ground connection for the electrical propulsion system. This second ground connection forms a grounding path selectively usable in lieu of the first ground connection. A control strategy is defined for switching between the first ground connection and the second ground connection. A respective leakage current associated with at least one of the first and second ground connections may be monitored.

Abstract: An improved method and system for facilitating no-break power transfer between an APU and a main engine includes determining a required APU speed for conducting power transfer based on various APU operating parameters, such as engine speed, fuel, environmental temperature, etc. The APU controller then adjusts the APU speed up or down to the required APU speed. Communication between an aircraft computer and the APU controller may also be provided so that operational data can be exchanged to adjust the electrical load of the aircraft below a maximum load threshold set by the APU, avoiding overloading of the APU during power transfer. By exchanging operational data between the APU controller and the aircraft computer, both the APU and the electrical load can be adjusted to optimize no-break power transfer despite varying APU operating conditions and main engine generator frequencies.

Abstract: In some embodiments, a power extractor operates in a manner to obtain more power transferred from the source to the load than typically is obtained without the power extractor. The power extractor may perform universal impedance matching as this is seen from either the power source or the load. This impedance matching allows the power source to provide an optimal amount of power transfer that is greater than would be able without the impedance matching. The power extractor transfers power between two nodes and may be operated so that the power transferred is dependent on continuously detected power changes, and the voltage and current at the first and second nodes are unregulated. Other embodiments are described and claimed.
