Abstract: A positioning and calibration system are provided for use in calibrating a single or multi axis sensitive instrument, such as an inclinometer. The positioning system includes a positioner that defines six planes of tangential contact. A mounting region within the six planes is adapted to have an inclinometer coupled thereto. The positioning system also includes means for defining first and second flat surfaces that are approximately perpendicular to one another with the first surface adapted to be oriented relative to a local or induced reference field of interest to the instrument being calibrated, such as a gravitational vector. The positioner is positioned such that one of its six planes tangentially rests on the first flat surface and another of its six planes tangentially contacts the second flat surface. A calibration system is formed when the positioning system is used with a data collector and processor.

Abstract: A non-contact, extractive sampling system and method is provided for measuring the exhaust gas composition and fine particle composition of exhaust emissions of various types of vehicles under actual operating conditions. A portion (or sample) of an exhaust plume of a vehicle is pulled or extracted through an extraction sampling tube, via a vacuum pump, to a remote trace gas detection system where the concentration of one or more constituents present in the sample of exhaust plume may be measured. In this regard, the invention enables vehicle emissions measurements to be made at a location remote from roadway, rather than using known, “cross-path” remote emissions sensing systems.

Abstract: A nano-particle containing apparatus, a nano-particle detection system and a method are disclosed. The nano-particle containing apparatus includes a casing, an air extracting device, a pressure device and a measuring instrument. The casing has a containing space for disposing a plurality of nano-particles. An internal wall surface of the casing has active self-cleaning function. The pressure control device controls the pressure status of the containing space. The active self-clean function is that nano-particles adhered to the internal surface wall are removed into the containing space. The nano-particles then are pumped by the air extracting device from the containing space. The measuring instrument then detects the status of an object affected by the nano-particles after the object is delivered into the containing space.
