Abstract: A hand-held apparatus for directing the flow of traffic is disclosed. The palm side of a glove includes multiple high intensity red light emitting diodes (LEDs), and the back side of the glove includes multiple high intensity green LEDs. A control circuit coupled to the red and green high intensity LEDs periodically monitors the state of a motion and position sensor. When the state of the motion and position sensor corresponds to the palm side of the glove being in a vertical position with multiple fingers of the glove pointing skyward to within an acceptance angle of vertical relative to the ground, the control circuit illuminates the high intensity red LEDs. When the state of the motion and position sensor corresponds to the palm side of the glove not being in a vertical position relative to the ground, the control circuit illuminates the high intensity green LEDs.

Abstract: Disclosed examples of lighting systems having at least three light sources of different colors may be controlled by validating input settings representing chromaticity and/or intensity of desired light to be generated by determining if the respective lighting system is capable of generating the desired light. This may involve comparing the chromaticity and/or intensity to a three-dimensional gamut representing chromaticity and associated intensities that the lighting system is capable of generating. The top contour of the gamut represents the maximum intensities for every chromaticity which the lighting system is capable of generating. Specifically the top contour is defined by points representing the maximum attainable intensities that each light source is capable of generating and the maximum intensity attainable by the lighting system.

An array of corresponding passive optical elements is interposed between the plurality of LED dies and the corresponding first ends of the plurality of optical waveguides. The illumination system provides for substantially high light coupling efficiency and an incoherent light output that can appear to the human observer as arising from a single point of light. In addition, the light can be output remotely at one or more locations and in one or more directions.

Abstract: A switching-mode power supply is configured so that two power supply lines are connected with each other via a series circuit consisting of a main switching element, a switch, and a transformer. The switching-mode power supply further includes a ripple voltage detecting circuit for detecting that a ripple voltage in one power supply line has a predetermined amount or more when a half short-circuit occurs in the main switching element. When the ripple voltage detecting circuit detects that the ripple voltage has a predetermined amount or more, the switch is opened so as to block supply of a current (supply of a voltage) to the main switching element. This allows the switching-mode power supply to avoid, with a simple circuit configuration and low costs, being an unstable state when the half short-circuit occurs in the main switching element.
