Abstract: A method of improving configurations of serving grants for a user equipment in a wireless communications system includes providing a scheduling grant table for configuring a serving grant value according to a reference value when a relative grant message is received. The reference value is determined according to a previously received absolute grant message. The method then includes setting a maximum scheduled grant value of the scheduling grant table to be equal to or greater than a maximum absolute grant value capable of being indicated by the absolute grant message.

Abstract: Method and apparatus for receiving high speed downlink shared channel (HS-DSCH) transmissions are disclosed. An HS-DSCH medium access control (MAC-ehs) entity receives MAC-ehs protocol data units (PDUs) via a high speed downlink shared channel (HS-DSCH) while in one of Cell_FACH, Cell_PCH, and URA_PCH states. The reordering PDUs included in the MAC-ehs PDUs may be sent to a next processing entity without performing reordering of the PDUs. A certain reordering queue may enter a suspend state upon occurrence of a triggering event and MAC-ehs PDUs distributed to the reordering queue in the suspend state may be forwarded to the next processing entity without performing reordering. MAC-ehs reset procedure may be extended for a certain transmission such that the MAC-ehs reset is performed after receiving a MAC-ehs PDU in a target cell.

Abstract: Stations in standby mode periodically wake up to check for buffered data at the access points. Traditionally, the information is available by checking the periodic beacon frame for a traffic indication map (TIM). Unfortunately, the length of beacons has steadily increased with the progression of the various wireless standards requiring stations to wake up for longer periods to merely check for buffered data. Several approaches are disclosed which address this shortcoming, including the broadcast of TIM frames, the partial reception of beacon frames and the use of an embedded TIM frame within a beacon frame.

Abstract: A method of assessing for a mobile terminal 1 the suitability of a cell of a cellular telecommunications network includes measuring the radio signal at the mobile terminal 1 —step A; and calculating at least one of a first mean value of a plurality of the radio signal measurements over a first time period—step B—and a second mean value of a plurality of the radio signal measurements over a second time period, longer than the first time period—step D. Two different thresholds are provided. The or each mean value is compared to one or respective ones of the thresholds—steps C and E. If the or either of the mean values are below the or the respective threshold, then this indicates that the cell might not be suitable for the mobile terminal. In that instance, a cell reselection process—step F—or a cell handover process can be triggered.

Abstract: A method to enable mobility while connected to an Internet protocol network comprises receiving a first data packet from a mobile node at a first mobile gateway in a mobile-gateway-communication network via a first access point and determining if a communication session is ongoing responsive to receiving the first data packet. When it is determined that a communication session is not ongoing, the first mobile gateway is established as a home mobile gateway for the duration of the communication session. When the mobile node connects to a second mobile gateway in the mobile-gateway-communication network via a second access point during the communication session, a tunnel is opened from the second mobile gateway to the home mobile gateway so that the communication session is maintained regardless of the protocol implemented by the mobile node and the access points.

Abstract: An improved technique provides location detection using wireless net-works such as Wi-Fi networks in a flexible, configurable manner that allows for variations in the environment and tracks target movement accurately in such an environment. Zones of different relative sizes and sensitivities can be defined, so as to vary the degree of resolution for different parts of the area being detected. Mechanisms are provided to take into account fluctuations in signal strength, and reduce the incidence of false positives resulting from incorrectly detecting zone or location changes due to fluctuations of signal strength. In addition, detection time can be configured for zone entry and/or exit. Self-adjustment based on heuristic analysis can also be implemented. Data can be sent or received based on the physical location as determined by the zone.
