Abstract: A downhole abrading tool has a body with a first end for connection to a drill string, a cutting end, a drilling fluid passageway, and a fusible material disposed within the body. The fusible material is capable of igniting and combusting in response to a selected temperature increase due to excessive wear on the cutting end. Combustion of the fusible material provides an indication to an operator of the downhole abrading tool of the excessive wear on the cutting end of the downhole abrading tool so that the downhole abrading tool can be removed from the well and replaced. The indication to the operator of the downhole abrading tool can be a temperature change or a pressure change in a drilling fluid flowing through the drilling fluid passageway.

Abstract: A method and system for designing bottom hole assembly configuration. The system and method include modeling the bottom hole assembly by dividing complicated BHA configurations into independent modules and segments. Modules are bounded by two stabilizers where segments are bounded by bottom hole assembly components. A recursive process is used to derive solutions for each of the segments and modules. Only two unknowns (and two non-linear equations) are left when the recursive process reaches to the bit. The two unknowns are then solved by iteration.

Abstract: An orientation measurement system is deployed in a wellbore drilling system having one or more reservoir imaging and characterization tools, directional tools, and/or other known BHA tools in a rotating section. The orientation measurement system includes a processor receiving signals from a rotary position sensor measuring an angular position of the rotating section relative to the non-rotating section and receiving signals from an orientation sensor determining the orientation of the non-rotating section relative to a reference frame such as highside. The processor uses the first and second signals to determine a tool face of the rotating member relative to the highside and periodically and/or continuously transmits the determined tool face along the BHA via a suitable communication link. The determined tool face is used by the BHA tools to synchronize measurements with highside and/or to determine azimuth.

Abstract: For a generally vertical or curved structure, such as a ladder, tower, wall, or pole, which is equipped with a generally vertical or curved rail, a fall-arresting mechanism comprises an upper plate and a lower plate. Each plate has an aperture, through which the generally vertical rail extends. The mechanism further comprises an elongate, linking member, such as a strap, which is connected to one of the upper and lower plates. The upper and lower plates are linked, by a parallelogram linkage on each of two sides, so that the upper plate is pressed against the rail, in a given direction, while the lower plate is pressed against the rail, in an opposite direction, when the elongate, linking member is pulled downwardly or downwardly and away from the rail. The upper and lower plates are biased in the indicated directions. The mechanism further comprises a friction-enhancing wheel, which is biased against the rail.

The vertical tower operably supports a platform assembly vertically movable along a length of the vertical tower between a lowermost position and an uppermost position. An actuator is operably disposed to selectively move the platform assembly along the length of the vertical tower between the lower most position and the uppermost position. A vehicle mount is adapted to securely but removably attach the scaffold system to a vehicle, wherein during use, the vehicle remains attached to the scaffold system for stability.

The proximal end of the rope exits through an opening in the exterior/outer rope pouch and is attached directly to a lightweight hook, or optionally enters a belay device. The hook has a sharp point for creating a purchase point on soft surfaces, a hook opening having sufficient diameter to surround radiators, steam pipe and the like, and capture rope that surrounds substantial objects. The hook has a central opening appointed for holding a firefighting tool to aid in creating a substantial object. The fire fighter escapes by creating a purchase point and repelling at a high speed or at a controlled speed by adjusting belay friction.

First and second legs extend outwardly from the second locking member toward a supporting surface. The second locking member slidably moves in relation to the first locking member as either the first or second leg is engaged with the surface. When both the first and second legs are engaged with the surface, the second locking member is moved into locked engagement with the first locking member, so as to maintain the ladder in a level state. When the first and/or second leg is removed from engagement with the supporting surface, the second locking member is released and is free to move with respect to the first locking member again.
