Abstract: A subcooling unit (200) includes a refrigerant passage (205) connected to liquid side communication pipes (21, 22) of a refrigerating apparatus (10). When a subcooling compressor (221) is operated, subcooling refrigerant circulates in a subcooling refrigerant circuit (220) to perform a refrigeration cycle, thereby cooling refrigerant of the refrigerating apparatus (10) which flows in the refrigerant passage (205). A controller (240) of the subcooling unit (200) receives the detection value of an outside air temperature sensor (231) or a refrigerant temperature sensor (236). The controller (240) controls the operation of the subcooling compressor (221) with the use of only information obtainable within the subcooling unit (200).

In accordance with this process, a metal ring model is prepared comprising a solid shank and a metal plate supported along the internal perimeter of the shank by means of a series of spokes extending from the shank. A first metal mold is produced from the metal ring model having the external shape of the jewelry article to be manufactured. From this mold, a wax model of the jewelry article is produced which is first filed down and then cast in order to form a metal model of a core insert; the core insert, like the ring model, has a plate disposed along the perimeter of the shank. This core insert is used to produce a second metal mold. This second mold may then be used repeatedly in order to form a soluble wax core insert model which is then inserted into the cavity of the first mold in order to define the hollow region of the article.

Abstract: A knock detection module for an engine comprises a statistics storage module and a processing module. The statistics storage module stores M times N vibration profiles corresponding to M zones of operation of the engine and N cylinders of the engine, wherein M and N are integers greater than one. The processing module determines in which one of the M zones the engine is operating and determines whether knock has occurred for one of the N cylinders by comparing measured vibration data with a selected one of the vibration profiles corresponding to the one of the M zones and the one of the N cylinders.

Abstract: Implementations of the present invention relate to a scanning probe microscope, which includes a base frame to which a probe holder with a probe as well as a probe support are, or can be fixed. The probe and the sample mount can be moved relative to one another in order to obtain information about the surface of the sample by scanning a sample which is arranged on the sample mount. Furthermore, a reaction chamber can be attached to the base frame of the scanning probe microscope, with the sample mount arranged therein. The reaction chamber has an opening on its side facing the probe, through which the probe can enter the reaction chamber. The reaction chamber can enable treatment of the sample's surface by the specific influence of fluids within the reaction chamber when the reaction chamber is closed.

Abstract: A phase feedback AFM (atomic force microscope) and method for the phase feedback AFM. A cantilever is driven to oscillate at a constant frequency close to the resonance frequency of the cantilever by a driving signal. The distance between the probe and the sample is controlled such that the phase difference between the driving signal and a cantilever deflection signal indicating deflections of the cantilever is kept constant. The phase feedback AFM has an amplifier-controller for receiving the cantilever deflection signal, the output from an oscillator for driving the cantilever into oscillation, and a signal representing a reference amplitude of oscillation of the cantilever. The phase feedback AFM further includes a feedback circuit which receives the output from the amplifier-controller which controls the cantilever deflection signal to a preset amplitude.

Abstract: A device for intake manifold pressure-based determination of the air mass flowing into the cylinder combustion chamber is provided. A logic unit determines the inflowing air mass based on the intake manifold pressure using a calculation model for load detection that determines the intake manifold pressure in an upper partial range of the intake manifold pressure. A sensor device for direct detection of the intake manifold pressure measures the intake manifold pressure only in a lower partial range of the intake manifold pressure in the internal combustion engine. The logic unit determines the inflowing air mass as a function of the intake manifold pressure measured by the sensor device when within the lower partial range of the intake manifold pressure, and based on the intake manifold pressure determined by use of the calculation model when within the upper partial range.

Abstract: To reduce power consumption by a thermal flowmeter while good flow-rate detection sensitivity is maintained, it is only necessary to reduce power consumption by a heat resistor under predetermined conditions. Specifically, provided that a width Wh of the heat resistor is between 100 micrometers and 400 micrometers inclusive (100?Wh?400), it is only necessary that a relationship among the length Lh of the heat resistor, a temperature increase ?Th for the heat resistor, and a maximum permissible power Phmax to be supplied to the heat resistor be set so as to satisfy a formula 1.4??Th·Lh/Phmax?2.8 in order to maintain good flow-rate detection sensitivity. Accordingly, the length of the heat resistor and the temperature increase in the heat resistor are set so that the maximum power consumption can be reduced within a range in which the formula is satisfied.
