Abstract: The invention relates to a method for the unreleasable fastening of at least one component to a basic component with the aid of a bolt projecting through a bore in the component or components, first the bolt being welded electrically with one end face on the surface of the basic component and subsequently being deformed plastically. So that components consisting of any desired materials can be used, it is proposed, according to the invention, that the shank of the bolt, which has a head, be upset, until the underside of the head lies in regions on the surface of the component. Furthermore, an unreleasable connection of one or more components to a basic component is proposed.

Abstract: An air flow deflector for use with a hood-type hair dryer is a thick, resiliently compressible, unitary halo with an inner perimeter of length suited to surround and abut, preferably with tension, against the subject's head when the halo's inner perimeter is contoured approximately immediately below the subject's hair line. The halo deflects the flow of warm air away from exposed skin portions of the head, neck and shoulders. An arcuate upturned extension on its front portion deflects air flow back to the interior of the hood of the dryer. The unitary halo may be continuous or split for adjustability and hinged for increased manipulability.

Abstract: The invention relates to a method and a device for drying objects (2) in particular painted vehicle bodies. In said method, the objects (2) are displaced through a drying zone (6), in which they are cured in an inert atmosphere. The aim of the invention is to introduce the objects (2) into the drying zone (8), whilst at the same time preventing the entry of as much of the normal atmosphere of possible from the exterior. To achieve this, the objects (2) are conducted through a lock zone (7), which is located upstream of the drying zone (8) and in which the normal atmosphere lying outside the drying zone (8) and an inert gas atmosphere are present in strata as a result of a difference in densities. The objects (2) are displaced during their passage through the lock zone (7) from the normal atmosphere into the inert gas atmosphere by a motion comprising a vertical component.

Abstract: Significant research is being done to develop and improve delivery mechanisms for biopharmaceuticals and vaccines, including pulmonary (inhalation), nasal, transdermal, and oral alternatives. Market projections indicate that the delivery of proteins and vaccines by inhalation and oral formulation has become and will continue to be increasingly important. These delivery mechanisms, to be effective, will require better stabilization of the biologicals so that they can maintain potency and effectiveness at ambient temperatures for extended periods of time. The novel Preservation by Vaporization (PBV) Technology described herein provides cost-effective and efficient industrial scale stabilization of proteins, viruses, bacteria, and other sensitive biologicals, thereby allowing a production of products that are not possible to be produced by existing methods. The suggested new PBV process comprises primary drying under vacuum from a partially frozen state (i.e.

Abstract: A method and apparatus are provided for reducing the VOC and CO content of dryer offgas that is discharged into the atmosphere from a moist organic product drying process using thermal oxidizing apparatus that includes a furnace, mixing chamber, thermal oxidizer, tempering chamber, and an indirect gas-to-gas heat exchanger. The dryer offgas is separated into two portions, with a larger portion being preheated by indirect heat exchange with the hot gaseous output from the thermal oxidizer. The non-preheated portion is directed to a rotary waste heat evaporator in which moisture is removed therefrom. The preheated portion is recycled to the hot gas inlet of the dryer and serves the function of dryer heat transfer media. By removing moisture from the non-preheated portion of the offgas that is directed to the thermal oxidizing apparatus, simultaneous achievement of thermal oxidizer temperatures of 1600° F.

Abstract: A composite laminar structure treated to inhibit micro-organisms from thriving thereupon, comprising a suitable thickness of two or more expanses of woven or non-woven materials. A plurality of nano-particles, including materials such as silver, are distributed relatively uniformly across and sufficiently durably coupled with the two or more material expanses to resist removal during normal use and mild laundering. The nano-particles possess anti-microbial properties suitable to substantially inhibit population growth of one or more micro-organisms. The laminar structure may be configured as an insole for a shoe, or as other articles for wear or use in other applications where growth of micro-organisms is undesirable.

Abstract: A decorative women's shoe cover made of an elastic fabric and using elastic hem strips is used to cover a shoe to change its fashion content. Elastic hem strips form an elastic foot opening to match the foot opening of the shoe. Elastic hem strips also form an elastic shank and heel opening extending from the back of the sole member to the heel of the shoe cover. Because of the elastic shank and heel opening, when the shoe is bent by normal walking use, the elastic foot opening will not separate from the shoe foot opening. Also, the shoe cover can be adhered to the shoe in selected places.

Abstract: Sandals, particularly sandals known as thongs or flip-flops that have removable and interchangeable uppers that allow the wearer to have a single pair of soles and multiple uppers so that they can have multiple colors and styles of sandals without having to buy and store multiple complete sandals. The sandal has a sole and an upper where the upper is comprised generally of straps forming a Y shape. The portion of the upper at the top of the Y can vary in size and design as long as the upper has at least three distinct strap ends which are used as attachment points to the sole. The front attachment point, which is at the bottom of the Y, attaches to the front of the sole using a first opening that runs from the top surface to the bottom surface in the front portion of the sole. The back attachment points are located on the top strap ends of the Y. These can be a single point on each side, or for aesthetic reasons, these points can branch out into two or more strap ends.
