Publication number: 20080236341Abstract: A tool made of powdered metal, such as a modified T15 HSS in powdered form, and having a multi-lobular end profile for punching multi-lobular recesses into workpieces, such as into the heads of fasteners. The tool is homogenous and contains only carbides which are relatively small, such as in the 1-4 micron range. Also provided is a method of fabricating such a tool. The method requires that a powdered metal bar is cut and then the cut piece is worked to provide the multi-lobular tool. The final part is theoretically 100% dense, as opposed to being only 95-98% dense as in metal injection molded parts. In use, the final part, due to how it is fabricated, has increased column strength and increased impact resistance.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 5, 2008Publication date: October 2, 2008Applicant: ACUMENT INTELLECTUAL PROPERTIES, LLCInventors: Edward Kletecka, Sean Kurtz

Publication number: 20080236381Abstract: Between an air source and first and second pressure chambers of a double-acting main cylinder having a length measurement sensor for measuring an acting position of a piston, a first supply solenoid valve and a second supply solenoid valve are connected, respectively, while between the first and second pressure chambers and the atmosphere, a first exhaust solenoid valve and a second exhaust solenoid valve are connected, respectively. When a target acting position of the piston is inputted into a controller, the controller moves the piston to the target acting position so that a position measured by the length measurement sensor agrees with the target position by on-off controlling the solenoid valves. Upon reaching the target position, the piston is stopped and held in the stopped state by confining air within the pressure chambers.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 13, 2008Publication date: October 2, 2008Applicant: SMC CorporationInventors: Takumi MATSUMOTO, Kazuhiro Noguchi

Publication number: 20080236382Abstract: An actuator displacement servo-control for aircraft flight controls is assisted by a hydraulic circuit, configured to deliver a hydraulic failure indication. The servo-control is generated from an actuator position indication and a position set-point indication computed by a computation unit. An alarm phase is opened on detection of a servo-control operating error and is kept open as long as the error is present. During the alarm phase it is determined whether the actuator is in blocked or divergent states. If blocked, it is determined whether the duration of the alarm phase exceeds a value Tconf2; If divergent, it is determined whether the duration of the alarm phase exceeds a value Tconf1. When blocked and the duration of the alarm phase does not exceed Tconf2, it is determined whether the hydraulic circuit indicates a hydraulic failure.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 5, 2007Publication date: October 2, 2008Applicant: ThalesInventor: Jean-Claude LE BASTARD

Publication number: 20080236383Abstract: An electromagnetic operation-type automatic pressure-adjusting valve outputting an air pressure corresponding to an amount of electric power is connected in an air flow path connecting a pressure chamber of a single-acting main cylinder and an air source. A controller is configured to obtain a relationship between a position of a piston and an air pressure from a relationship between the position of the piston of the main cylinder and a spring force of a return spring, and a relationship between the air pressure supplied to the pressure chamber and an acting force applied to the piston by the air pressure. When a target position of a movement of the piston is inputted to the controller, the controller is operated to move the piston toward the target position and to stop the piston at the position by means of controlling the amount of electric power for the automatic pressure-adjusting valve so that an air pressure corresponding to the target position is outputted.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 13, 2008Publication date: October 2, 2008Applicant: SMC CorporationInventors: Takumi Matsumoto, Kazuhiro Noguchi

Publication number: 20080236384Abstract: The invention relates to an axial position machine (1) comprising cylinder bores (9) that are located in a cylinder drum (4), pistons (10) that can be axially displaced in said boxes (9) and helical compression springs (22) that are provided in the cylinder bores (9). Each piston (10) is pre-stressed against a swash plate (22), which is supported on the cylinder drum (4). The diameter of the helical compression spring (22) narrows (23) between the upper and lower ends.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 22, 2004Publication date: October 2, 2008Inventor: Roland Belser

Publication number: 20080236387Abstract: The piston 4 comprises a fixing ring 8 mounted on a piston rod 6, and a piston body 10 fixed to the fixing ring 8. The fixing ring 8 is comprised of two semi-circular plated members 8A, 8B having plural threaded holes 8a for bolt-fastening of the piston body 10. When they are abutted against each other and formed into a circular-annular shape, a hole portion 8c which is to be tightly fitted in a fixing groove 6a of the piston rod 6 is formed. The piston body 10 has a hole portion 10a which is to be fitted over the piston rod 6, and plural bolt holes 10c corresponding to the threaded holes 8a. Moreover, the piston body 10 has a concave portion 10d on a side of one surface thereof, in which the fixing ring 8 is fitted in an embedded state.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 13, 2008Publication date: October 2, 2008Applicant: SMC CorporationInventors: Syun Orihara, Naoki Hoshi, Shinichiro Nemoto, Hiroyuki Asahara
