    Abstract: Embodiments relate to a relatively rapid transesterification process including transesterifying condensation polymers such as polyethylene terephthalate (PET), or other polyesters used in commerce, with a modifying monomer mix containing other monomers to manufacture new polymers containing the pre-condensed moieties. The process preferably only involves transesterification as a reaction mechanism. The process preferably produces a rapid buildup of molecular weight and/or polymer uniformity by the high temperature transesterification of the condensation polymer with the modifying monomer mixture. The process can be performed in any suitable vessel including an extrusion line, and it has the advantage of greatly reduced cycle times over currently used condensation polymer utilization processes such as the recycling of PET into other materials.

    Abstract: The present invention provides an aqueous ink containing ?3% silver particles having much improved adhesion. It has been found that the adhesion can be improved by adding an aqueous cationic dispersion of a styrene/acrylate copolymer, PEI (polyethyleneimine), or arabinogalactan as an additive to the ink. The advantage of using one of these materials to improve the adhesion of the silver ink is the stability of the ink is maintained and the resistivity goal is met when printed onto the specified media. In other words, this invention provides a silver ink with great adhesion properties while still able to meet the <0.1 ?/square resistivity requirement and remain stable for up to 4 weeks at 60° C. at accelerated oven aging conditions.

    Abstract: Taggent flakes for covert security applications have a covert security feature not typically seen by casual observation, but visible under a microscope. The covert feature is a predefined shape of the flakes, optionally complemented by indicia. The shaped taggent flakes can be opaque or light-transmissive, colored or essentially clear. The flakes are used in a composition, such as ink or paint, to provide a covert security feature to an object. In some embodiments the composition includes base pigments and shaped taggent flakes matching the visual characteristics of the base pigment. In another embodiment, clear covert flakes are mixed in the carrier with base pigment. The composition is used to print a field on the object, such as a stock certificate or bank note. The covert flakes are not readily detectable by causal observation under visible light.

The vapor phase growth apparatus includes a chamber, a rotatable holder having a susceptor, an internal heater and an external heater which are arranged in the holder and heat the wafer from the bottom surface, an gas-pipe which is arranged to face the internal heater and sprays a cooling gas, and a temperature measuring unit which is arranged outside the chamber and measures the surface temperature of the wafer. In this manner, a position of a singular point of temperature which is an overheated portion generated on the wafer can be recognized. The singular point of temperature is locally cooled to make it possible to improve the uniformity of a temperature distribution in plane of the wafer.
