The orientation of the LC molecules upon display of a dark state has a direction different between the reflection area and the transmission area.

Abstract: The present invention aims to reduce flickers of the liquid crystal display device and enable the use of liquid crystal material exhibiting a high response speed, and to enhance light usage efficiency of the field sequential type liquid crystal display device. After writing the video signal to all the pixels in each sub-frame period, a correction voltage signal or an alternating signal having a frequency of greater than or equal to a certain frequency is input to the data line, so that the magnitude of the leakage current of each pixel TFT caused by the difference in polarity of the video signal with respect to the opposing electrode written to the pixel electrode is equalized, and the flickers are greatly reduced.

Abstract: A stacked storage capacitor structure for use in each pixel of a TFT-LCD, wherein a first storage capacitor is formed by a first metal layer, a gate insulator layer and a second metal layer. The second capacitor is formed by the second metal layer, a passivation insulator layer and an ITO layer. The first metal layer and the ITO layer are joined together through a via hole which is etched in one insulator etching step during the overall fabrication process through both the gate insulator and the passivation insulator layers. As such, the two capacitors are connected in parallel in a stacked configuration. With the stacked storage capacitor structure, the charge storage capacity is increased without significantly affecting the aperture ratio of a pixel. The ITO and the pixel electrode can be different parts of an indium tine oxide layer deposited on the passivation insulator layer.

Abstract: A method for producing a display comprising: forming a plurality of pixels arrayed on a flexible substrate and independently driven by TFTs, wherein the TFTs are formed in such a manner that the direction of the channel length L between the source and drain of each TFT is the direction of two orthogonal directions on the substrate in which the substrate has a smaller dimensional change ratio than the other direction. When the TFTs include a switching TFT and a driving TFT, the TFTs are formed in such a manner that the direction of the channel length between the source and drain of at least the driving TFT is the direction of the two orthogonal directions on the substrate in which the substrate has a smaller dimensional change ratio than the other direction.
