Publication number: 20080295912Abstract: A bend stiffener 30 is disclosed which serves to resist excessive bending of an elongate underwater member 32, such as a cable, in a region where it meets a supporting structure such as an oil rig or buoy. The bend stiffener has a stiffener body 36 which defines a through-going channel for receiving and embracing the elongate member. A connection part 42, which may for example be formed as a tube, is shaped and positioned to enable it to be engaged with some complementary feature of the supporting structure (e.g. an upright I-tube) by upward movement of the bend stiffener. When thus engaged, the connection part serves to locate the stiffener body laterally and angularly. In accordance with the present invention, the bend stiffener is positively buoyant so that, once the connection part is engaged with the supporting structure, the bend stiffener's buoyancy suffices to maintain it in engagement.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 27, 2008Publication date: December 4, 2008Applicant: TRELLEBORG CRP LIMITEDInventor: Paul Louvain-Walters

Publication number: 20080295915Abstract: The smart cap includes at least one replaceable rubber band that is used to plug the smart cap into the oil inlet of the automobile. Because the rubber band can compress and expand inside the oil inlet, the band provides a snug fix to various number oil cap sizes, i.e., the diameter of the oil inlet. Furthermore, the band can be used to grip the inner threads of the oil inlet and plugged in the ear, slot type oil inlets. Once the smart cap is inserted, a funnel can be inserted into the opposite end of the rubber band for pouring the motor oil. The smart cap can also be implemented with slots. These slots are used to insert an adaptor. This adaptor can be made with a wing, ear, and slot type oil cap. Hence, when a car is a wing type oil cap, the smart cap can be inserted with a wing type oil cap to be screwed into the oil valve, and a funnel can be inserted in the opposite end for pouring of the engine oil. The inventive smart cap is particularly useful on engines with baffle plates under the oil valve.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 1, 2007Publication date: December 4, 2008Inventor: Yong Pom Kim

Publication number: 20080295936Abstract: This invention is based upon the concept of modifying the surface of silica with a metal, such as titanium or zirconium, which will catalyze silanol condensation reactions on the surface of the silica. In other words, modifying the surface of silica with titanium or zirconium provides a catalyst for the silanol condensation reaction between the silica surface and silane coupling agents used in silica filled compounds. The utilization of such metalated silica as a filler in rubber compositions results in improved polymer filler interaction and in turn improved physical properties. For instance, such surface metalated siliceous fillers can be used in tire tread compounds to attain improved rolling resistance and treadwear without compromising traction characteristics. The present invention more specifically discloses an elastomeric composition which is comprised of (1) a rubbery polymer, (2) a silica coupling agent, and (3) a surface metalated siliceous filler.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 7, 2008Publication date: December 4, 2008Applicant: The Goodyear Tire & Rubber CompanyInventors: Frank James Feher, Bruce Raymond Hahn, Aaron Scott Puhala

Publication number: 20080295954Abstract: An end effector, and methods for constructing composite members, in which a compaction roller and redirect rollers translate synchronously along the compaction axis. Additionally, the end effector includes an advantageous arrangement of spools and rollers that directs tow to the redirect rollers at substantially a right angle. Movement of the compaction roller along the compaction axis induces little, if any, changes in tow tension. The substantially constant tow tension advantageously reduces rewinding of the tow supply spools, which can degrade the quality of the lay up and contribute to despooling problems.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 31, 2007Publication date: December 4, 2008Inventors: Robert A. Publication number: 20080295957Abstract: A bonding material is placed on an electronic component. a heat conductive member is superposed on the surface of the bonding material so that a thermosetting adhesive is interposed between the heat conductive member and a substrate. The thermosetting adhesive is then cured at a temperature lower than the melting point of the bonding material. The bonding material melts after the thermosetting adhesive has cured. While a distance is maintained between the heat conductive member and the substrate, the thermosetting adhesive is cured. The heat conductive member is thus reliably prevented from a downward movement regardless of the melting of the bonding material. A space is maintained between the heat conductive member and the electronic component. The cured bonding material is reliably prevented from suffering from a reduction in the thickness.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 6, 2008Publication date: December 4, 2008Applicant: FUJITSU LIMITEDInventor: Tsuyoshi SO
