Abstract: A method and arrangement for determining the capacity of a heat exchanger is provided. The effective heat transfer coefficient for the heat exchanger is calculated from the measured inlet and outlet temperatures of the product and the measured inlet and outlet temperatures of the auxiliary medium. By means of the value, the outlet temperature of the product set for maximum flow of the auxiliary medium is determined as that at which the change in the heat content of the product is at least approximately the same as the change in the heat content of the auxiliary medium and the amount of heat transmitted by the heat exchanger for the product flow. The value is displayed to the user and permits a decision as to how much longer the heat exchanger can reliably be operated.

Abstract: A cam assisted centrifugal brake or clutch system provides increased mechanical advantage to improve the output torque relative to prior art devices such as leading brake shoes. The brake or clutch engagement is cammed radially outwardly to engage a brake housing in one direction and guided to a disengaged position in the other direction. Centrifugal forces retain the brake in the disengaged position. Embodiments of the present invention are applied as a backspin braking system that is incorporated into a drive head for a progressing cavity pump drive system.

Abstract: A tubing injector unit for use in inserting and withdrawing coiled tubing from a well bore hole having in its structure a tubing injector component, a gooseneck component and a mounting component for connection of the overall unit to a supporting structure such as a mast. The mounting component has an upper area for carrying the gooseneck component thereon and a lower underside area forming an injector component supporting structure. The unit in operation thereby supports the injector component in a suspended condition beneath the mounting component so that the working forces which develop in inserting and withdrawing tubing in a bore hole are transferred separately to the mounting component by the injector component and the gooseneck component and thus directly to the supporting structure by the mounting component.

Abstract: Force balancing adjusts hydraulic fluid pressure in an upper piston area of a Rotating Pressure Control Device (RPCD) that has an inner housing rotatably engaged within an outer housing by an upper bearing and a lower bearing. The hydraulic fluid pressure is adjusted to balance net force in a upper piston area and a lower piston area. The fluid pressure adjustment creates a force differential that balances the total load transmitted through the upper bearing and the lower bearing and thereby extends the life of the sealing element and bearings. Additionally, a wear indicator signals the end of the useful life of the drill pipe sealing element.

Abstract: In cutting a downhole pipe in proximity to a closure in the pipe, the pipe is first perforated. A perforating torch is positioned with a pipe in proximity to the closure. The perforating torch produces cutting fluids in a first radial direction and produces an opening in the pipe, which cutting fluids produce a reaction force opposite to the first radial direction. This reaction force drives the perforating torch into contact with the pipe, anchoring it against any pressure wave produced by the cutting fluids and reflected off of the closure. Once the pipe is opened, a cutting torch is operated to sever the pipe. Any pressure wave generated by the cutting torch is vented through the opening.

Abstract: A flow conduit having at least one orifice is placed in the vicinity of a flow source, which in one non-limiting embodiment may be a hydrocarbon reservoir. The flow pathway between the orifice and the source is temporarily blocked with a degradable barrier. Once the flow pathway is physically placed, the degradable barrier is removed under the influence of an acid, a solvent, time and/or temperature. The flow source and the flow pathways are at least partially covered (and flow blocked by) a temporary coating such as a pseudo-filter cake formed by a viscoelastic surfactant-gelled aqueous drill-in fluid, and the flow conduit is extended to the flow source. The pseudo-filter cake is removed when viscosity is reduced by an internal breaker, and flow is then allowed. The method is useful in one context of recovering hydrocarbons where the flow conduit is a telescoping sleeve or tube that contacts the borehole wall.

Abstract: A package substrate free of malfunction or error even with an IC chip in a high frequency range, particularly an IC chip with a frequency exceeding 3 GHz, is provided. A conductor layer 34P on a core substrate 30 is formed to have a thickness of 30 ?m and a conductor circuit 58 on an inter layer resin insulating layer 50 is formed to have a thickness of 15 ?m. By making the conductor layer 34P thick, it is possible to increase a volume of the conductor itself and decrease resistance. Further, by employing the conductor layer 34 as a power supply layer, it is possible to improve a capability of supplying power to the IC chip.

Abstract: A multilayer chip carrier with increased space for power distribution PTHs and reduced power-related noise. In a multilayer chip carrier with two signal redistribution fanout layers, in addition to signal escape from near-edge signal pads at the first fanout layer, remaining signal pads are moved closer to the edge of the chip footprint. At the voltage layer below the first fanout layer, the remaining signal pads are moved again, closer to the edge of the chip footprint. In the second fanout layer, below the voltage layer, the remaining signal pads escape. The region where signal pads are moved provides increased space for power PTHs.

Abstract: Systems and methods for simultaneously partitioning a plurality of via structures into electrically isolated portions by using plating resist within a PCB stackup are disclosed. Such via structures are made by selectively depositing plating resist in one or more locations in a sub-composite structure. A plurality of sub-composite structures with plating resist deposited in varying locations are laminated to form a PCB stackup of a desired PCB design. Through-holes are drilled through the PCB stackup through conductive layers, dielectric layers and through the plating resist. Thus, the PCB panel has multiple through-holes that can then be plated simultaneously by placing the PCB panel into a seed bath, followed by immersion in an electroless copper bath. Such partitioned vias increase wiring density and limit stub formation in via structures. Such partitioned vias allow a plurality of electrical signals to traverse each electrically isolated portion without interference from each other.
