Abstract: An image forming apparatus comprises a scaling correction circuit that corrects scaling in a sub-scanning direction of image data according to scaling data, a screen processing circuit that, of image data whose scaling in the sub-scanning direction has been corrected by the scaling correction circuit, performs screen processing on image data included in a screen area; and an image forming unit that forms an image based on the image data that has been processed by the screen processing circuit. The scaling correction circuit changes the scaling in the sub-scanning direction such that a pixel arrangement of the screen area after the scaling is changed becomes a pixel arrangement of image data before the scaling was changed.

The multi-level pixel are compared to a preset level (408) and generates a binary pixel output (410). The binary pixel output is collected and forms an adjusted halftone binary bitmap file (270).

Abstract: A softproofing system and method render an input document for display on a monitor to faithfully represent projected output from a target print engine, where the displayed document representation rendering is modeled to include internal print engine specific enhancements or characteristics of the target print engine. The system and method identify the target print engine and print engine specific rendering characteristics from the specified content, such as an input file, which may be a raster image or an electronic file in a PDL format. Specific print engine characteristics may include halftone screen identification, error diffusion identification, halftone dot shape, write white, write black, anti-aliasing, line width compensation and specific tone reproduction curves.

Abstract: The black level in raw image data captured from an image sensor does not always stay fixed at a constant level, but may change as a function of the analog gain and exposure time and may vary from one spatial location of the pixels to another. To carry out black-level correction on the raw image data, the black level of each of the color components is measured at one or more sampling locations. A look-up table is generated based on the measured black levels and a computation module is used to carry out black-level correction based on the information stored in the look-up table. The look up table may have information indicative of the analog gain level and the exposure time and the variations of black-levels in different spatial locations.

After a user detaches the external memory medium from the image processing apparatus and uses his or her computer to delete or move unnecessary files in the external memory medium to increase the usable capacity therein, the user attaches the external memory medium to the image processing apparatus again. At this moment, the external memory medium is authenticated by the medium identification information stored therein. Thus, this authentication performed using the medium identification information prevents a third person from obtaining the image data of the user while the user is away from the image processing apparatus.

The controller includes an interface for receiving an image having a bi-level black data layer compressed in an Edge Delta and Runlength (EDRL) compression format and a continuous tone (contone) CMYK data layer. Also included is an EDRL expander and a Joint Photographic Experts Group (JPEG) decoder unit for expanding the image by simultaneously decompressing the two data layers in parallel, as well as a halftoner and compositor unit for halftoning the contone CMYK data layer into bi-level CMYK data layer and compositing the bi-level black data layer over the bi-level CMYK data layer to form a composited bi-level CMYK image. The controller further includes a processor and memory arrangement configured to control the interface, the expander and decoder unit, and the halftoner and compositor unit, and further configured to transmit the composited bi-level CMYK image to a memory buffer of the pagewidth printer via a printhead interface.

This fluorescent mark comprises a substrate containing optical brightening agents, and a first dot design printed as an image upon the substrate. The first dot design has as a characteristic, the property of strongly suppressing substrate fluorescence. A second dot design having a property of providing a differing level of substrate fluorescence suppression from that of the first dot design such that when rendered in close spatial proximity with the first dot design image print, the resultant image rendered substrate suitably exposed to an ultra-violet light source, will yield a discernable image evident as a fluorescent mark.

Abstract: Disclosed are a method and apparatus for embedding or detecting watermarks in a text, which belong to the field of document protection. The method and apparatus overlay an additional layer of shade in a document for recording a large amount of information from watermarks. The shade comprises the dots arranged under certain rules. Shifts of the dots record each bit string within the watermark. According to the method and apparatus, a large amount of information can be embedded and the watermarks embedded in the shade are dispersed together with the document which can be digitized by a scanner for being detected.
