Abstract: A method for managing a channel matrix is provided. The method includes: obtaining whether a user logs on or logs off; adding a history record of channel information of the user to a channel matrix when the user logs on; recording current channel information of the user in the channel matrix and deleting the channel information of the user from the channel matrix when the user logs off. The channel matrix may be timely updated based on when the user logs on or off. Accordingly, the channel crosstalk is eliminated timely and correctly according to the channel matrix, and the affection on the crosstalk eliminating capacity caused by the user logs on or logs off can be avoided.

Abstract: A Personal Area Network Security Domain (PSD) (50) is formed between PDA (52), mobile terminal (54), PC (56) and printer (58). The PSD (50) allows the sharing of resources between the devices within the PSD. If the devices within the PSD (50) are located remotely from one another, communication between those devices will be performed via mobile or cellular telephone network (66) and the Internet (68). For each set or association of similarly located devices within the PSD (50), one of those devices will be a gateway device. The gateway device is a device that is configured to communicate with an external communications medium (mobile network (66) or the Internet (68)). Data transmissions to other devices within the PSD are channelled through the relevant gateway. In another embodiment resources are shared between the two separate PSDs (of which may or may not be remotely located with respect to one another) by means of data exchanges between the respective gateway devices of the two PSDs.

Abstract: The present invention is a method of doing business over a network that: receives a request for transmitting digital information after a start time and before an end time, determines the time required to transmit the digital information based on the number of packets in the information and the network speed, schedules a transmit time for the digital information, and accepts the digital information for transmission only if the time required to transmit is less than or equal to the difference between the transmit time and the end time. Pricing of the transmission can be determined by the priority of transmission, whether the information is transmitted the first time or rescheduled, and whether the user receives an acknowledgment.

The load balancer may receive messages from a plurality of TTGs. A gateway node in a plurality of gateway nodes in which to send the message is determined. The load balancer then assigns a NSAPI for use by the gateway node. For example, the NSAPI may be associated with a tunnel that is generated between the TTG and GGSN. The load balancer ensures that the assigned NSAPI is not currently in use at the gateway node. Abstract: A media access control (MAC) controller is disclosed for a network providing communication for network stations located at a plurality of customer premises and sharing a communication medium, each of the premises having a plurality of network stations. The MAC controller includes a virtual local area network (vLAN) controller, providing access to the communication medium for and communication among the stations located at a single customer's premises, to define a vLAN between them. A group local area network (gLAN) controller provides access to the communication medium for and communication among interfering vLANs, two vLANs being considered to be interfering when one can sense communications over the medium from a station in the other. A MAC controller is provided in at least one station in a vLAN.

Abstract: An embodiment of the invention is directed to a dual-single-frequency fiber laser. A linear cavity formed by a short length of highly doped optical waveguide with distributed Bragg reflectors (DBRs) at respective ends, one of which is a polarization-maintaining PM-DBR, and a suitable pump source, provides orthogonally polarized dual-single-frequency laser emissions. Operating characteristics of the laser may be customized by appropriate design of the PM-DBR. Wavelength spacing between dual lasing wavelengths can be controlled via the birefringence parameters of the PM-DBR. Laser emission wavelengths may be controlled as a function of the period of the PM-DBR. Output power may be scaled upward by optimizing the PM-DBR reflectance and via pump power adjustment. Relaxation-oscillation effects (noise peaks) may be reduced by using a negative-feedback circuit on the pump laser.

Abstract: A technique for determining the modulation index of a frequency-modulated laser source from the absorption spectrum that is produced when light from the laser passes through an alkali metal vapor cell. The absorption spectrum contains a primary minimum and a number of satellite minima and the modulation index is determined using ratios of the minima. The technique is used to calibrate the laser source of a CPT frequency standard so that it operates at a desired modulation index. Ways are disclosed of using the technique to calibrate the CPT frequency standard either manually or automatically. The calibration may be done when the CPT frequency standard is built, when the frequency standard is initialized, or during normal operation of the CPT frequency standard.

Abstract: A laser system (100) produces at least one laser beam (204) that is output from the laser system. The laser system includes a safety device (124) that terminates the output of the laser beam from the laser system. The termination occurs upon the laser beam interacting with a predetermined reflective surface (202) to change a characteristic thereof, thus indicating of a fault condition where the laser beam may cause damage to a human eye, for example. The safety device (124) may be reflective in the path of the laser beam(s) from source to output, and the reflective surface (202) melts or ablates upon the fault condition, thus interrupting the path and preventing laser output. In addition, the safety device (124), upon the fault condition, may produce or trigger a control signal (126) to turn off the laser sources (110). A sensor (620) may be located behind the predetermined surface (202) to indicate the fault condition upon ablation and/or melting of the predetermined surface (202).

Abstract: This invention relates to a novel diode pump and a method of manufacturing the same. An optical laser pulse beam expander, through which a laser beam is guided forward, is integrated as a part of the diode pump according to the invention. The light bars of the diode pump are preferably made from a material that is harder than silicon and that resists large amounts of power, such as from diamond, sapphire, ruby or titanium sapphire. Using a diode pump according to the invention it is possible to guide a laser beam forward without power-restricting optical transmission fibers or optical high-power connectors. The invention enables the manufacture of very high-power diode pumps and the use thereof as a part of a laser apparatus.
