Abstract: An optical recording medium is provided for allowing data to be recorded on, erased from, and reproduced from, and storing information about power levels of an erase pulse. The recorded erase pattern information may include information about power levels of first and last pulses of an erase pattern for erasing data. The first and last pulses of the erase pattern can be differently set depending on the differing kind of recording layer or layers of a disk or differing kinds of disks and recorded in a reproducible only area or rewritable area of the optical recording medium. Thus, by presetting the appropriate erase power levels, the time required for selecting an optimal erase power for the optical recording medium can be considerably reduced.

Abstract: A handheld recording device and a method of play that can be played with either one or two recording devices. Each recording device has a microphone for converting sound into an electronic sound signal. The recording device also has a digital memory with a limited sound recording capacity. The digital memory records the sound signal when a record button is pressed. A backward play button is also located on the recording device. The backward play button causes any sound signal recorded in the digital memory to play backward and be broadcast through a speaker. A game is played using one or two of the recording devices. A first player records a message and plays it backwards. The other players can decipher the backward message by recording it in their own recording device and playing the backward message in reverse.

Abstract: A trunk interface in Resilient Packet Ring (RPR) is provided and a method and an apparatus for implementing interface trunking in RPR with a plurality of stations, where at least one of the stations includes a plurality of RPR interfaces. A plurality of physical link ports in an RPR interface are combined into a logical link port, so as to implement logical combination of a plurality of first physical link. A trunk interface is formed with the combined logical link ports, and a logical address is assigned to the trunk interface. Furthermore, the communication traffic of the stations may be apportioned among the physical link ports, so as to provide link balance. The physical links are provided on different rings. When any fault occurs, a new ring may be formed so as to make the communication link unblocked. With the present invention, the interface bandwidth is increased, the address (MAC address/IP address) resources are saved and the interface (link) reliability is increased.

Abstract: Provided are system and method for multi-protocol label switching (MPLS) label-switched path (LSP) protection switching in an MPLS system employing a working LSP and a protection LSP in a 1:1 mode, the apparatus and method prepare a dedicated LSP for one working LSP and are capable of rapidly processing a forward defect indication (FDI)/backward defect indication (BDI) signal when a failure occurs on the working LSP. The system includes: an ingress node multicasting input MPLS traffic through the working LSP and the protection LSP using a fed-back BDI signal; a transit node relaying the MPLS traffic input from the ingress node, and generating a FDI signal when the failure occurs; and an egress node extracting the MPLS traffic from the MPLS LSP input from the transit node, and when the FDI signal is detected, inserting and feeding back the BDI signal to the ingress node through a return path and performing switching to the protection LSP.

An example system architecture includes a network processing unit implementing one or more data plane operations, and a network device operably coupled to the network processing unit that implements a control plane. In a particular implementation, the network processing unit is configured to process network traffic according to a data plane configuration, and sample selected packets to the network device. The network device processes the sampled packets and adjusts the data plane configuration responsive to the sampled packets. In particular implementations, the control plane and data plane implement, a server-side triggered policy caching mechanism that allows for previous classification policy decisions made for previous data flows to be applied to subsequent new flows.

Abstract: A shaping unit includes FIFOS for accumulating a packet which is so designed as to arrive at a destination address. A packet (ordinary packet), which has one destination address, is accumulated into the FIFO corresponding to the one destination address. A packet (virtual multicast packet), which will be copied in the downstream of the shaping unit then to arrive at two destination addresses, is accumulated into either of the FIFOS. A packet read unit transmits the virtual multicast packet, which is read from either of the FIFOs, and the ordinary packet, which is read from the one of the FIFOS, to a multiplexing circuit in such a manner that total bandwidth of both packets is controlled.

Abstract: A correlation-based rate adaptation scheme (CORA) is enabled for practical communication devices that provides for communication data rate adaptation in a complex and/or rapidly changing communication environment. Correlations may be determined between adjustable parameters of a communication scheme and one or more performance metrics and/or communication scheme operating regimes. In the context of the correlation-based rate adaptation scheme, adjustable parameters of the communication scheme may be considered as defining a multi-dimensional parameter space, and the determined correlations may be considered as correlation maps that may be used to guide parameter selection and adjustment. The use of correlation maps enables extraction of information from imperfect and/or incomplete measurements, and the information collected in the correlation maps may be used to tune corresponding communication scheme parameters to enhance communication performance.

Abstract: A system is provided for detecting a fault in a signal transmission path. In one embodiment, the system can include a variable amplitude signal attenuator which is operable to modify an input signal by variably attenuating a signal voltage swing of the input signal. Desirably, the input signal is attenuated only when transitioning from a high signal voltage level towards a low signal voltage level d variably, such that a larger high-to-low signal voltage swing is attenuated more than a smaller high-to-low signal voltage swing. Desirably, a comparator, which may apply hysteresis to the output signals, may detect a crossing of a reference voltage level by the modified input signal. In this way, when the comparator does not detect an expected crossing of the reference voltage level by the modified input signal, a determination can be made that a fault exists in the signal transmission path.
