Abstract: A method for intercepting and yawing an errant sailing vessel is disclosed, wherein the vessel might have been hijacked or malfunctioned and in danger of colliding with an object. The method comprises dispatching a pair of watercraft to approach said sailing vessel, providing a tow rope to be secured at one end to first watercraft and the other end to second watercraft. The tow rope is brought to extend between the first and second watercrafts over the hull of said sailing vessel. The first watercraft is then secured to one side of said sailing vessel's hull, while second watercraft pulls the tow rope away from the direction of sailing on the other side of said vessel's hull. In an alternative embodiment, the tow rope end held by the first watercraft may be secured directly to the vessel's hull, thus freeing the first watercraft to evacuate crew from the vessel to a safer distance.

Abstract: A tow body is provided with an attachment point to connect to a tow cable. The attachment point is positioned nominally at a nonzero angle relative to the length of the tow body. Propulsion components of the body generate thrust. The body is capable of accepting electric power for a propulsion motor within the body. The motor provides the power for the propeller or other propulsion equipment. The power for the motor can also provided by a tow cable. The addition of forward thrust by the propeller decreases cable scope (the need for long lengths of cable) and required winch volume for storing the cable.

Abstract: The invention relates to an apparatus for evaporating solid materials, for instance, selenium for coating a substrate. The solid material is brought into a first crucible via a feeding source. In this crucible the material melts at a temperature which is preferably slightly higher than its melting point. The molten material flows via a transporting device, for instance, a pipe into a second crucible, where the material evaporates at a temperature higher than its boiling point and is transported to a substrate. In order to stop the evaporation within a very short time preferably within only one to two minutes, a cooling device for cooling the material beyond its melting point is arranged at the transporting device. Abstract: Provided is a butterfly valve-type throttle valve of an internal combustion engine capable of absorbing a dispersion in valve opening degree at closed positions to reduce a leakage of air by solving problems, for example, with a multi-arrayed variable intake valve device in which a plurality of throttle valves mounted on a single turning shaft are opened and closed, a dispersion in valve opening degree is liable to occur at the closed positions due to the mounting errors of the throttle valves on the turning shaft and, accordingly, it is difficult to reduce the leakage of air. A clearance closing member (12) is supported in a floating state along a peripheral edge of a valve body (11) and displaced or elastically deformed to eliminate or reduce a clearance between the clearance closing member and an inner wall surface (2a) of an intake passage.

Abstract: A fuel injector of a fuel injecting device that is known is provided with an intensifier piston, which intensifies the pressure of the liquid supplied to the fuel injector from a rail pressure to a higher pressure by hydraulic transmission. The disadvantage is that this type of pressure intensification is very expensive and complicated. In the device according to the present invention, the pressure intensification is simpler and more economical. The present invention provides for at least one electromagnetic pressure intensifier to be provided on at least one fuel injector.

Abstract: An Engine Control Module includes an electronic controller for controlling the position of an EGR valve, the timing of opening and closing of the engine combustion valves, and the timing of the individual cylinder fuel injectors of an engine. Each engine cylinder includes a pressure sensor. Peak cylinder pressure is sent to the ECM during each firing cycle. The ECM is programmed with required maximum percentages of EGR and optimal combustion valve timing for each engine operating condition, and sets the EGR valve and/or the camshaft phaser accordingly to adjust combustion in all the engine cylinders. The ECM also compares the measured peak pressure for each cylinder and adjusts the timing of fuel injection for the next firing cycle to trim the measured peak pressure in each cylinder to a predetermined level at or below the maximum allowable peak firing pressure for the engine.
