Abstract: A method for collecting biomass, such as straw, and for producing a pyrolysis liquid, such as oil or tar, from the biomass, comprises the step of collecting the biomass from a growth site, e.g. a field, by means of a mobile unit. The biomass is continuously fed into a pyrolysis apparatus (200) accommodated by the mobile unit, as the mobile unit is moved across the growth site. While the biomass is processed in the pyrolysis apparatus, further biomass is simultaneously being collected. The pyrolysis apparatus may be a flash pyrolysis or fast pyrolysis apparatus relying on centrifugal forces for forcing biomass towards a reactive surface in a pyrolysis reactor. The mobile unit may be self-propelled.

Abstract: A control system for controlling an adjustment device which is operated by electric motor in a motor vehicle is provided. The control system comprises an indirect anti-trapping system for detecting a trapping situation between an adjustment element, which is moved by the adjustment device in an adjustment movement along an adjustment path, and a vehicle element. The anti-trapping system stops or reverses the adjustment movement of the adjustment element if a defined threshold value for a mechanical running parameter which results from the adjustment movement is exceeded. The anti-trapping system operates with an analysis unit for analyzing the adjustment movement of the adjustment element, wherein the control system is configured and embodied in such a way that by means of the analysis unit, in an analysis mode, the running parameters of the adjustment device can be checked for mechanical functional faults of the adjustment device.

Abstract: An entry control apparatus is provided. The apparatus includes a pair of spaced barriers forming a pathway therebetween. The barriers are positioned adjacent a doorway to control ingress into and egress from a building or the like. An arm is pivotally mounted and extends across the pathway and permits free movement of people in one direction and selectively restricts movement in the other direction. A motion sensor is provided and a motion control system is associated with the sensor. The sensor and motion control system cooperate to selectively allow the arms to move to a normally open position for normal traffic in an approved direction. In the event a person approaches the apparatus, as if to exit, or move in the wrong direction through the pathway, the sensor detects the movement and effects operation of the motion control system that locks the arm against movement to prevent movement through the passageway.

The stationary torque tube is connected with a fan case in the gas turbine engine. The gear system is connected to the second-stage fan shaft and the torque tube. The first-stage fan shaft extends from the gear system such that the first-stage fan shaft is driven at a speed reduced from that of the drive shaft.

Abstract: A quantity of unburned fuel is provided through a combustion chamber of an engine and an exhaust conduit to a catalytic converter. The catalyst in the converter is determined to be non-operational if a post-catalyst temperature sensor does not indicate a sufficient temperature increase between readings before and after provision of the unburned fuel to the combustion chamber. The unburned fuel may be provided by withholding spark ignition to create a misfire in the combustion chamber or, particularly in a direct injection engine, by injecting the fuel during the exhaust stroke.

Abstract: [PROBLEMS] To provide an internal combustion engine enabling an increase in engine efficiency and fuel economy and a reduction in residual black smoke concentration of exhaust gas. [MEANS FOR SOLVING PROBLEMS] One end of each of air flow passages is connected to the side wall of the cylinder exhaust tube of each of cylinders, the other end of each of these air flow passages is connected to a shared bypass control chamber, and the exhaust tube of each of the cylinders is connected to each of the flow passages through the shared bypass control chamber. Thus, a part of pressurized exhaust gas in the exhaust tube of each of the cylinders brought in an exhaust step when the other cylinders are in an explosive step is discharged to the bypass control chamber through the air flow passage by the compression explosion compressive pressure of the atmosphere produced as a reaction immediately after an explosion exhaust to absorb an exhaust resistance.

Abstract: An exhaust gas discharge device for vehicles is disclosed. The exhaust gas discharge device of the present invention includes an extension pipe (10), which is fitted over a tail pipe of a silencer of a vehicle. A venturi passage (20) is defined in an exhaust gas inlet end of the extension pipe to increase a flow speed of the exhaust gas. The exhaust gas discharge device further includes an outside air discharge nozzle (30), which extends into the venturi passage, a backflow inlet port (40), which is provided in an exhaust gas outlet end of the extension pipe to guide outside air, and a cover (50), which defines therein a chamber, through which the backflow inlet port communicates with the outside air discharge nozzle. Thus, the present invention restrains backflow of exhaust gas using the flow of outside air, thus preventing back pressure, and rapidly discharging the exhaust gas, thereby enhancing the output of the engine.

Abstract: The present disclosure relates to an apparatus and associated methods for generating energy by capturing and taking benefit of the energy generated by any quantity of air surfacing inside water. The apparatus includes a frame structure to which is rotatably mounted an upper drive wheel, a lower wheel, and a vertical fluid column container. An endless chain of gas capsule elements is mounted on the upper and lower wheels. This endless chain passes vertically up into and through the fluid column container through a seal port in the bottom of the container. As the endless chain of gas capsule elements passes vertically through the fluid in the container, fluid pressure on the elements due to the height of the column of fluid in the container produces a net buoyant force upward on the elements, causing them to rise, generating kinetic energy that turns the wheels.

In an inoperative state, the rear ends of the second axial grooves and the second radial holes are all located to the rear of a seal point of a second cup seal, and a second fluid supply chamber is connected to a second hydraulic pressure chamber via the second axial grooves and the second radial holes. Abstract: A system and method for controlling boost pressure in various turbo-charged engine configurations as well as variable geometry turbine (VGT) arrangements includes an electronic controller programmed to receive a predetermined desired boost pressure PBoostdes. A desired pressure delta ?PWGdes across a waste-gate valve is determined using the desired boost pressure PBoostdes. A control signal is generated for controlling the waste-gate valve so as to achieve the desired pressure delta ?PWGdes. In boost pressure and vacuum pneumatically-actuated waste-gate valve arrangements, the respective solenoid duty cycles are obtained through use of various data structures. Where a waste-gate valve position is controlled by an electrical motor, the valve position is determined using a data structure as a function of desired waste-gate valve flow at sonic standard conditions.

Abstract: A method for controlling a turbocharger using a physical model of the turbocharger speed is disclosed with an application for controlling an internal-combustion engine. A setpoint pressure corresponding to a fluid pressure in the engine intake manifold is converted to a desired speed value. A physical relation connecting the turbocharger speed to a pressure ratio of the fluid flowing into and out of the turbine is then defined. A desired pressure ratio for the fluid flowing into and out of the turbine is deduced therefrom. A turbine actuator control law is estimated by mapping the turbine, from a measurement of the fluid flow rate flowing into the turbine and from the desired ratio of the pressures in the turbine. Finally, the control law is applied to the turbine actuator so that the pressure in the intake manifold is equal to the setpoint pressure.
