  • Patent number: 7517218
Abstract: Implant (10) having a shaft which is adapted in use to be embedded in bone tissue and which has an outer surface provided with a circumferentially-oriented roughness. The circumferentially-oriented roughness has first and second axial sections (19, 21) with each section comprising a series of circumferentially-oriented peaks which have a crest and which are axially spaced apart by troughs. The axial spacing (d) between the crests of adjacent peaks in the first axial section (19) is less than the axial spacing (3d) between the crests of adjacent peaks in the second axial section (21). Although the axial spacing between the crests of adjacent peaks in the first and second axial sections of circumferentially-oriented roughness differs, the first and second axial sections of circumferentially-oriented roughness are adapted in use to provide the same or substantially the same pitch.

  • Patent number: 7517219
Abstract: A musical video is made at a first time of a dancer whose head is stationary but whose feet and body are moving in synchronism with a dance song. The dancer's head is then removed from the video. At a festive occasion (e.g., a birthday party) at a subsequent time, the dance song is replayed and a video is made of the response of the head, in a stationary position, of one or more of the celebrants at the festive occasion to the dance song. The celebrant's head is combined with the dancer's body to produce two (2) videos are then combined into a single video in which the celebrant's head appears on the dancer's body.

  • Patent number: 7517222
Abstract: An electrical plug and receptacle relying on magnetic force to maintain contact are disclosed. The plug and receptacle can be used as part of a power adapter for connecting an electronic device, such as a laptop computer, to a power supply. The plug includes electrical contacts, which are preferably biased toward corresponding contacts on the receptacle. The plug and receptacle each have a magnetic element. The magnetic element on one or both of the plug and receptacle can be a magnet, which is preferably a permanent rare earth magnet although electromagnets may also be used. The magnetic element on the plug or receptacle that does not include a magnet is composed of ferromagnetic material. When the plug and receptacle are brought into proximity, the magnetic attraction between the magnet and its complement, whether another magnet or a ferromagnetic material, maintains the contacts in an electrically conductive relationship.

  • Patent number: 7517227
Abstract: An electronic device electrically connected to an external electronic component is provided. The electronic device comprises first conductors for contacting the external electronic component and a base. The base has holes with second conductors disposed on inner walls thereof and an elastic body having terminal receiving holes for receiving the first conductors. The first and second conductors and the elastic body are disposed at appropriate positions. When the external electronic device presses and contacts the first conductors, the elastic body is forced to deform, and the first conductors are made to move to contact the second conductors. As the elastic body has good elasticity, the first conductors after being compressed can contact the second conductors of the base, and thus soldering is not required, which facilitates the electrical connection to a chip module.

  • Patent number: 7517243
Abstract: A method and apparatus are provided for monitoring and reporting cable connectivity such as patch panel port-level connectivity on a real-time basis. For patch panel systems, the approach is based upon a distributed architecture that may be modularly scalable and may reduce, if not eliminate, the need for a centralized signal processor and complex cabling between patch panels and the centralized signal processor. Each patch panel may determine port level connectivity independently. Polling delays and polling-related overhead processing may be reduced or eliminated by supporting real-time monitoring of port connectivity at the port level. The approach provides improved real-time reporting of patch panel connectivity with reduced cabling complexity, increased reliability, and decreased maintenance costs. In addition, the approach is compatible with (i.e., may communicate with and be controlled by) a multipurpose network management system (NMS). In addition, a compatible revision system is provided.

  • Patent number: 7517263
Abstract: A method and apparatus is directed towards an advanced blade section for propellers that allow watercrafts to effectively travel in both sub-cavitating and super-cavitating modes. The advanced blade section includes a streamlined profile having a convex upper surface and a lower surface that includes both a convex portion and a concave portion. When the propellers are rotated in a first direction at low speeds to propel the watercraft in the forward direction, the advanced blade section experiences a fully wetted flow over both the upper and lower surfaces at low speeds. At high speeds, the advanced blade section experiences a partially wetted flow, with only a front part of the lower surface being fully wetted, at high speeds. When the propellers are rotated in a second direction opposite the first direction to reduce the speed of the watercraft, the blade section experiences a substantially wetted flow over both upper and lower surfaces.
