Publication number: 20090158828Abstract: In the case of measuring a pattern having a steep side wall, a probe adheres to the side wall by the van der Waals forces acting between the probe and the side wall when approaching the pattern side wall, and an error occurs in a measured profile of the side wall portion. When a pattern having a groove width almost equal to a probe diameter is measured, the probe adheres to both side walls, the probe cannot reach the groove bottom, and the groove depth cannot be measured. When the probe adheres to a pattern side wall in measurements of a microscopic high-aspect ratio pattern using an elongated probe, the probe is caused to reach the side wall bottom by detecting the adhesion of the probe to the pattern side wall, and temporarily increasing a contact force between the probe and the sample. Also, by obtaining the data of the amount of torsion of a cantilever with the shape data of the pattern, a profile error of the side wall portion by the adhesion is corrected by the obtained data of the amount of torsion.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 7, 2008Publication date: June 25, 2009Inventors: Shuichi BABA, Masahiro Watanabe, Toshihiko Nakata, Yukio Kembo, Toru Kurenuma, Takafumi Morimoto, Manabu Edamura, Satoshi Sekino

INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE SYSTEM AND ENGINE MISFIRE DETECTION METHOD FOR INTERNAL COMBUSTION ENGINE
Publication number: 20090158829Abstract: The internal combustion engine system of the invention calculates a time constant of a high pass filter for eliminating a resonance component of a damper as a distortional element from a rotation speed of an engine, and sets the high pass filter with computation of a transfer function from the time constant. The set high pass filter is applied to a 30-degree rotation time representing a rotational variation of the engine to obtain a filtered 30-degree rotation time with elimination of the resonance component of the damper. The occurrence of an engine misfire is detected, based on a 30-degree rotation time difference and a misfire detection base difference computed from the filtered 30-degree rotation times. This arrangement ensures highly-accurate detection of the occurrence of a misfire in the engine constructed to output power via the damper as the distortional element, irrespective of the rotation speed of the engine.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 14, 2007Publication date: June 25, 2009Inventor: Takashi Suzuki -
Publication number: 20090158830Abstract: A system and method for misfire detection in a multi-cylinder internal combustion engine system includes an engine-speed activated artificial neural network (ANN)-based detection function. An input vector includes a plurality of engine speed derivatives attributable to a respective cylinder, and also includes engine speed and load values. The input vector values are updated each combustion cycle. A conventional misfire detection block is used when the engine speed is at or below an engine speed threshold. An ANN-based misfire detection block is used when the engine speed exceeds the threshold. The ANN-based block is configured to emulate a plurality of distinct ANNs each of which is conditioned by a respective set of weights and biases to correspond to and detect when a respective cylinder has misfired. The ANN-based block includes an output signal for each ANN indicating whether the respective cylinder has misfired.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 20, 2007Publication date: June 25, 2009Inventors: Gerard W. Publication number: 20090158831Abstract: An in-cylinder pressure sensor obtains a high resolution pressure curve for each cylinder cycle allowing the various data to be derived for improved monitoring and control of operation of the engine. A more accurate measure of work done by the engine is obtained allowing more accurate estimation of the vehicle torque and hence real torque control. In addition, engine losses can be more accurately calculated and the estimates corrected yet further by obtaining an accurate top dead centre position for the engine cylinders.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 6, 2009Publication date: June 25, 2009Inventors: Richard Charles Elliot Cornwell, Edward Colin Winslett, Andrew David Noble, Brian Gorman Cooper, Anthony Truscott, David Greenwood, Nicola Dilieto

Publication number: 20090158832Abstract: A stroke detection apparatus performs a stroke detection of 4-cycle engine based on a rotary engine speed when a throttle opening is large. A first crank-pulse time interval between a crank pulse inputted before a top dead center by 30°, and a crank pulse of the top dead center is measured by a pulse-interval calculation unit, and at the same time, a second crank-pulse time interval between a crank pulse inputted after the top dead center by 60° and a crank pulse inputted after the top dead center 90° is measured. An interval difference calculation unit calculates time-interval difference by subtracting the second crank-pulse time interval from the first crank-pulse time interval, for two continuous top dead centers. A stroke detection unit determines whether two top dead centers are a compression top dead center or an exhaust top dead center based on magnitudes of the time-interval differences.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 24, 2008Publication date: June 25, 2009Applicant: Honda Motor Co., LtdInventors: Kenichi Machida, Katsuhiro Ouchi

Publication number: 20090158833Abstract: A fuel injector malfunction monitoring apparatus designed to monitor a malfunction of fuel injectors which are installed in cylinders of an internal combustion engine and work to spray fuel in response to a fuel injection command signal. The apparatus comprises an injector operation disabling circuit and a state monitoring circuit. The injector operation disabling circuit works to disable the fuel injection command signal to place a selected one of the fuel injectors in a non-injection mode during operation of the internal combustion engine for inducing a change in state of the engine arising from stop of spraying of the fuel. The state monitoring circuit works to monitor the state of the internal combustion engine upon placement of the selected one of the fuel injectors in the non-injection mode for use in determining whether the selected on is malfunctioning or not.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 19, 2008Publication date: June 25, 2009Applicant: DENSO CORPORATIONInventor: Hideyuki KUSATSUGU

Publication number: 20090158834Abstract: The invention relates to a method for testing tires, for measuring the radial and lateral forces which the tires of motor vehicles will exert on a road. According to the method, a load-application wheel is forced with a predetermined force against the tread of the tire which is filled with air, the tire rolling off on the load-application wheel. The test is carried out in both rotational directions of the tire. After the first test the rotational direction is changed and the second test is carried out. The method is characterized in that the force with which the load-application wheel is forced against the tread of the tire is reduced during change of the rotational direction.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 23, 2007Publication date: June 25, 2009Inventors: Wolfgang Seichter, Michael Meinen

Publication number: 20090158835Abstract: The invention refers to a wind tunnel designed to operate in its vertical section that is to say, air currents generated by appropriate means meeting in a vertical area at the end of which the air current is capable of lifting objects in this vertical area. At the same time this lifting effect may be seen on the outside as it has been built from translucent materials. The viewing and lifting of bodies in this device allows both their display and measurements to be taken.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 15, 2006Publication date: June 25, 2009Inventor: Miguel Angel Serrano Pellicer
