Abstract: A combustion duct for a gas turbine engine has a combustion liner to receive products of combustion, and deliver the products of combustion downstream toward a turbine rotor. An outer housing is positioned radially outwardly of the combustion liner. A flow sleeve is positioned radially intermediate the outer housing and the combustion liner. A chamber radially outwardly of the flow sleeve receives cooling air. A plurality of holes through the flow sleeve deliver cooling air from the chamber against an outer periphery of the combustion liner. A plurality of tabs are associated with at least some of the holes in the flow sleeve. The tabs are positioned to extend radially inwardly on a downstream side of the holes.

Abstract: Methods and systems are provided for the harnessing of energy from pressure differences in bodies of water that include gases, for example hydrogen and oxygen. In one example, hydrogen and oxygen may be produced from water by electrolysis under high pressure. Pressure differences between the atmosphere and the produced gases brought about by the body of water may be then utilized to generate energy (e.g. to create a flow of fluid which may spin a turbine). In this way, energy may be produced in a clean and efficient manner, with useful byproducts that may be further processed.

During operation of the regulation device, a rolling force target value (F*) and a rolling force actual value (F) are supplied to the force regulator (8). A regulating distance correcting value (ds1*) is determined by the force regulator (8) from the rolling force target value (F*) and the rolling force actual value (F). The regulating distance correcting value (ds1*), an excentricity compensation value (ds2*), and a regulating distance actual value (s) of a regulating element (6) are supplied to the position regulator (9). A correcting quantity (dq) is determined by the position regulator (9) from the values (ds1*, ds2*, s) supplied thereto and is delivered to the regulating element (6). The regulating distance of the regulating element (6) is changed according to the correcting quantity (dq).

Abstract: A wire-like product (10) for use as a feedstock in metal or plasma spraying or welding includes a metal case (12) and a composite core (14) in the case, with the core being partially sintered and containing enough metal to conduct an electrical current. To form the wire-like product, a metal tubular segment (20) is filled with a powder (26) in the absence of oxygen. Then the tubular segment is reduced in cross-section to compact the powder within it. Next the tubular segment is heated to anneal it and effect a partial sinter (32) of the powder. Another reduction in cross section breaks the partial sinter into particles and further compacts them, whereas a further heating anneals the tubular segment and resinters the particles. Repetitions of the cycle produce the wire-like product.

Abstract: In straightening a duplex stainless steel pipe on a multi-roll pipe straightener, the value of A defined by the formula (1) is set to not more than 2.0% when it is not necessary to improve the mechanical strength of the pipe, and the value of A is set to more than 2.0% but not more than 3% when it is necessary to improve the mechanical strength of the pipe. Thereby, the mechanical strength of the duplex stainless steel pipe is regulated, A=(Di?Hi)/Di??(1) where each of the symbols in the formula (1) indicates the following: Di: the outer diameter (mm) of the pipe at an entry side of an i-th stand in the straightener, and Hi: the gap (mm) between groove bottom portions of the rolls at an i-th stand in the straightener.

Abstract: The present invention is system and method for providing a self-calibrating pressure sensor. A pressure sensor apparatus comprises a diaphragm, at least one driving element operably coupled to the diaphragm configured to induce deflection in the diaphragm, and at least one strain gauge coupled to the diaphragm. The at least one strain gauge measures the deflection of the diaphragm. Typically, the driving elements will be piezoelectric drivers and will be operably coupled to the diaphragm. A method for evaluating a pressure sensor comprises inducing deflection in a diaphragm, measuring the deflection, determining the frequency-dependent response, calculating mechanical characteristics of the diaphragm from the frequency-dependent response, and calculating a response coefficient for the diaphragm based in part on said mechanical characteristics. The response coefficient is used to evaluate the sensor. The sensor can then be re-calibrated or self-calibrated based on the response coefficient.

An error functional map is generated corresponding to the difference between the measured and known dimensions of the artefact. Subsequent workpieces are measured with the articulating probe head unlocked and the corresponding correction applied. The true dimensions of the artefact may be determined by measuring it with a probe mounted on an articulating probe head in which the axes of the articulating probe head are locked. A mechanical lock is provided to lock the axes of the articulating probe head.
