Abstract: An electrophoresis process is used to form a more efficient and controllable triggering mechanism for solid explosives ignited through the application of electromagnetic energy. Electrophoresis is used to overcome the Van der Waals forces that hold the nanostructures together to disperse and align the nanostructures to the field lines of an applied electric field in-situ in the explosive or ex-situ in a pre-preg layer (or layers) that is then introduced to the explosive. The in-situ process requires fewer steps but is more constrained in the trigger structures that can be formed and care must be taken not to detonate the explosive during the electrophoresis process. The ex-situ process requires additional steps but provides greater flexibility to create trigger structures and the electrophoresis process is performed on a lower viscosity non-explosive material.

Abstract: A paintball has one or more dimples or depressions formed on the outer surface of the paintball. In some embodiments, the depressions can have a uniform or non-uniform shape and be spaced equally about the circumference of the paintball. In some embodiments, each depression may provide increased lift and/or fragility to the paintball.

Abstract: A device includes a fixed portion permanently integrated in a platform, a mobile portion connected to the fixed portion so as to be capable of displacement between stowed and expanded configurations, and elements for driving the mobile portion. In order to improve the device safety, including in particularly dangerous cases such as the drift of the railway vehicle along the platform, the mobile portion is provided with telemeters for constant time measuring of the horizontal distance between them and the vehicle, while control members connected to the telemeters process the measurements from the telemeters in order to provide real-time driving-elements actuation signals according to the measurements so that, in the expanded configuration, the horizontal distance between the free end of the mobile part and the access threshold (8A) of the parked vehicle is lower than a predetermined value independently from the relative position of the platform and the parked vehicle.

Abstract: A novel carbon-modified titanium dioxide film (CMF-TiO2) and a method for producing same by a CVD method at atmospheric pressure. The precursor compounds used in this context for the titanium dioxide and the carbon component are titanium-organic compounds and unsaturated aromatic hydrocarbons. Thermal treatment at about 250° C. to about 600° C., preferable at about 250° C. to about 300° C. forms a CMF-TiO2, the carbon content of which is about 0.2% to about 10.0% by weight, preferably about 0.2% to about 6.0% by weight and particularly preferably about 0.2% to about 2.5% by weight. A CMF-TiO2 film is characterised by high catalytic activity in the degradation of air and water pollutants with visible light and light absorption in the range from 400 nm to 700 nm, as well as by 1) a quasi-Fermi level of the electrons of ?0.5 V at pH 7 (relative to NHE) and/or by 2) C1s bonding energies of 284.8, 286.3 and 288.8 eV; and/or by 3) an isotropic electronic spin resonance (ESR) signal at a g-value of 1.900 to 2.005.
