Abstract: A method and apparatus for constructing large vertical boreholes and underground cut-off walls is disclosed. A drill rig assembly with double rotary heads drives a small diameter drill string and a much larger diameter drill string which is concentric with the smaller drill string and has a donut shaped drill bit configuration at the lower end thereof. Preferably, a steerable mud motor/drill is provided on one end of the small drill string and is guided to make as vertical a borehole as possible. In a preferred embodiment, the small inner drill is advanced to the full depth using the steerable mud motor/drill to achieve a high degree of verticality and a slight smaller casing is installed and used as a verticality guide for the much larger diameter outer drill string. In a further embodiment, the inner drill string is advanced a predetermined distance, then the outer string is advanced using the inner string as a verticality guide, these steps being repeated in alternating fashion to the final depth.

A sleeve actuator (30?) mandrel also has a bore and is selectively axially slidable in the body through-bore. A hollow bar (36?) is slidable with a radial component in the slot. At least two levers (210), each pivoted to the mandrel (about a first axis perpendicular the longitudinal axis) extend into the hollow bar and are pivoted thereto (about a second axis parallel the first axis). The levers lie in an actuation plane perpendicular the first and second axes and containing the slot. The levers are disposed at an inclined angle with respect to the longitudinal axis so that longitudinal motion of the mandrel translates into radial movement of the bar.

Abstract: A method and device for provisionally determining the mass of a vehicle when it is initialized. After initialization of the vehicle, the method determines a vehicle mass value by a static mass determination method and then checks whether this value is within a predetermined tolerance band around the dynamically last-determined vehicle mass value, which has been stored for that purpose. If this is so, and there has in the meantime been no significant change of the vehicle's mass, the previously stored dynamic vehicle mass value is probably more accurate and is used in the determination. Otherwise it can be assumed that the vehicle mass value has changed substantially, and the statically determined vehicle mass value is therefore used until a device for the dynamic determination of a vehicle mass can supply a more accurate vehicle mass value after a short time.

Abstract: The steering control device performs a control of applying an assist torque based on a steering by a driver. Concretely, the steering control device sets a transfer function from an inputted steering angle to a wheel turning angle to a predetermined frequency response. Then, the steering control device determines the assist torque corresponding to a steering amount based on the frequency response, a transfer function of the steering angle in a relational formula between the steering angle, the wheel turning angle and the assist torque, and a transfer function of the assist torque in the relational formula. By executing the steering assist based on the determined assist torque, it becomes possible to control the response of the wheel turning angle to the steering angle with high accuracy.
