  • Patent number: 7785415
Abstract: Systems and methods for local synthesis of silicon nanowires and carbon nanotubes, as well as electric field assisted self-assembly of silicon nanowires and carbon nanotubes, are described. By employing localized heating in the growth of the nanowires or nanotubes, the structures can be synthesized on a device in a room temperature chamber without the device being subjected to overall heating. The method is localized and selective, and provides for a suspended microstructure to achieve the thermal requirement for vapor deposition synthesis, while the remainder of the chip or substrate remains at room temperature. Furthermore, by employing electric field assisted self-assembly techniques according to the present invention, it is not necessary to grow the nanotubes and nanowires and separately connect them to a device. Instead, the present invention provides for self-assembly of the nanotubes and nanowires on the devices themselves, thus providing for nano- to micro-integration.

  • Patent number: 7785425
Abstract: By a press-formed starting member (11) being immersed in a process liquid (12) at 40 to 60° C. and of pH 9 to 12, a passive film (26) is formed at the surface of the press-formed starting member. There is no solving out of metal ions from the press-formed starting member, and the passivation treatment can be carried out by just immersion in a single solution, so that costs including waste processing can be reduced. In another aspect, degreasing, cleaning and passivation treatment are carried out by spraying the press-formed starting member. By the use of spraying, the degreasing, cleaning and passivation treatment can be made rapid, and the amounts of process liquid needed for degreasing, cleaning and passivation treatment can be reduced.

  • Patent number: 7785441
Abstract: The present invention aims to provide a plasma generator capable of creating a spatially uniform distribution of high-density plasma. This object is achieved by the following construction. Multiple antennas 16 are located on the sidewall of a vacuum chamber 11, and a RF power source is connected to three or four antennas 16 in parallel via a plate-shaped conductor 19. The length of the conductor of each antenna 16 is shorter than the quarter wavelength of the induction electromagnetic wave generated within the vacuum chamber. Setting the length of the conductor of the antenna in such a manner prevents the occurrence of a standing wave and thereby maintains the uniformity of the plasma within the vacuum chamber. In addition, the plate-shaped conductor 19 improves the heat-releasing efficiency, which also contributes to the suppression of the impedance.

While air in the enclosed space 12 is being suctioned through one end of the enclosed space 12, matrix resin is supplied to the reinforced fibers through the other end of the enclosed space 12 to impregnate the reinforced fibers with the matrix resin, and the matrix resin is hardened, whereby there is obtained a flow sheet whose surface smoothness is 0.25 ?m or less in terms of arithmetical mean roughness.

Abstract: Closed apparatus and processes by which carbon feedstock is composed of a mixture of non-coking coal fines and another carbonaceous material, such as waste coke fines, are described. The coal and coke fines are mixed together and may be formed into solid pieces. The mixture alone or as solid pieces is fired through pyrolyzation into solid pieces of coke, with solid and gaseous by-products of pyrolyzation being recycled for use within the coke-producing closed system, thereby reducing or eliminating release of undesirable substances to the environment. A char-forming binder may or may not be added to the carbon mixture prior to pyrolyzation.

  • Patent number: 7785450
Abstract: Systems are described for the “on-site” production of substantial amounts of carbon dioxide and hydrogen. The systems include a stack of multiple electrochemical cells, which decompose organic carboxylated compounds into CO2 and H2 without leaving any residue. From a bench-top small generator, producing about 1 lb of CO2 per day to a large-scale generator producing 1 ton of CO2 per day, the process is essentially identical. Oxalic acid, either anhydrous or in its dihydrate form, is used to efficiently generate the gases. The energy required is less than 0.3 Kilowatt-hours per lb of CO2 generated. Individual cells operate at less than 1.2 volts at current densities in excess of 0.75 amps/cm2. CO2 production rates can be controlled either through voltage or current regulation. Metering is not required since the current sets the gas production rate. These systems can competitively replace conventional compressed CO2 gas cylinders.

  • Patent number: 7785455
Abstract: A multi-chamber processing system is described for depositing materials on multiple workpieces (wafers, display panels, or any other workpieces) at a time in a vacuum chamber. The system includes a sputtering chamber and a separate pre-clean chamber, where wafers can be transferred between the two chambers by a robotic arm without breaking a vacuum. The wafers are mounted one-by-one onto a rotating pallet in the pre-cleaning chamber and sputtering chamber. The pallet is firmly fixed to a rotatable table in the sputtering chamber. Copper tubing in the table couples RF energy to the wafers, and a liquid running through the copper tubing controls the temperature of the wafers. Multiple targets, of the same or different materials, may concurrently deposit material on the wafers as the pallet is rotating. Multiple magnets (one for each target) in the magnetron assembly in the sputtering chamber oscillate over their respective targets for uniform target erosion and uniform deposition on the wafers.
