  • Patent number: 7793493
Abstract: An engine (FIG. 1-1) comprising of multiple cylinders designated (2-5) combustion cylinders and (2-6) for heat recovery steam cylinders, each cylinder having a piston connected to a common crankshaft. The combustion cylinders operate on a four stroke cycle and the heat recovery steam cylinders operate on a two stroke cycle. The exhaust gas from the combustion cylinders is pressurized by a compressor, driven by a turbine, before entry into the heat recovery steam cylinders. This happens during the intake/power stroke of the heat recovery steam cylinders, as the intake valve closes, after top dead center, heated pressurized water is injected into the cylinder and spontaneously turns to steam driving the receding piston down. This heated exhaust gas and steam is expelled from the heat recovery steam cylinders to drive the turbine which in turn drives two compressors, one to compress the exhaust gas and one to compress the intake air.

  • Patent number: 7793536
Abstract: The invention concerns a method to determine the composition of a fuel mixture from a first and at least a second fuel for the operation of an internal combustion engine with at least one combustion chamber, wherein the first and the second fuel have different boiling points and/or different enthalpies of evaporation. Provision is thereby made for the composition of the fuel mixture to be ascertained from the pressure in the combustion chamber and/or a parameter associated with the pressure and/or the time history of the pressure and/or the time history of a parameter associated with the pressure during and/or after an injection of fuel during a compression phase of the fuel-air mixture. An advantage of the method according to the invention is that when initially starting the engine after filling the tank (fueling), the fuel mixture ratio, which resulted from the filling of the tank (fueling), can already hereby be determined.

  • Patent number: 7793540
Abstract: A rotor such as a blisk B is balanced by determining the extent of any static or couple unbalance when the rotor is rotated about a test axis X while supported at a location surface 10 at which the rotor is supported in normal use. The location surface 10 is then modified, for example by removing material in a final machining operation, to eliminate the unbalance. For example the swash of the surface 10 may be altered and/or modification may be made to other location features (11) in order to cause the rotor to rotate, in normal operation, about an axis which is eccentric to the test axis X.

  • Patent number: 7793541
Abstract: Packaging techniques for planar resonator gyroscopes, such as disc resonator gyroscopes (DRGs) are disclosed. A gyroscope die may be attached to its package substrate on a central disc area that is inboard of its embedded electrodes. This configuration eliminates contact of the die with the package substrate beneath the embedded electrodes allowing the internal electrode support structure to expand or contract freely without stress as its temperature changes. The central attachment can also be used diminish the package temperature gradients on the periphery of the die, if the thermal conductivity of the central disc attachment material is higher than the package substrate. Temperature gradients across the resonator also lead to thermoelastic damping asymmetry and rate drift. In addition, the electrical connections to the die may be formed by vertical vias within the central disc attachment area or by thin wirebonds to peripheral I/O pads on the gyro chip.
