  • Patent number: 7806162
Abstract: A method of forming metal castings includes positioning a first end of a structural member in a first mold cavity and a second end of the structural member in a second mold cavity. The first and second mold cavities are fluidly coupled to a reservoir of molten metal. A main pressure is applied to the molten metal in the reservoir to force the molten metal into the first and second mold cavities. First and second auxiliary pressures are applied to the first and second mold cavities to densify the castings formed in the first and second mold cavities. Another method for casting includes maintaining a main pressure at or less than an initial, mold-filling pressure after the first and second mold cavities have been filled. Additionally, a method for detecting whether a first mold cavity is sufficiently filled with molten metal includes monitoring a moveable element.

Abstract: A system and method for tracking and positioning a continuous cast strand in a casting plant. Lateral positions and, optionally, elevational positions of a cast strand are monitored by sensors as casting proceeds and are fed to a computer-based system as corresponding position information where the information is stored as associated data. The computer-based system processes the associated data and generates corresponding control signals which are used to control at least one correcting device to maintain desired orientation of the cast strand as casting proceeds.

Abstract: A jet pump mounted on a pipe string and a packer, and a through channel with a sealing unit having a logging cable channel is in the pump body. A check valve is in a channel, for supplying a medium pumped out from a well, at the input thereof in the lower body. A guiding bush with a movable rod, arranged parallel to the logging cable, is fixed to the body under the valve. The top of the rod is positioned under the check valve closing element and a fork, over which the logging cable passes, fastens to the lower end of the rod. The closing element can be pressed out from a seat and brought into contact with the fork while a downhole instrument is lifted.
