Abstract: An axially actuated valve primarily for use in a pressurized container having a dip tube comprises a vertical moveable valve element having a stem, button on the base of the stem and sidewall openings at the lower part of the stem. A resilient annular sealing grommet has a recess in its base into which the button fits. When the valve is closed, the button engages the ceiling of the recess to block product from reaching the sidewall openings. The button is within the recess at all times between its closed and open states. The button has upper and lower disc portions. The lower disc portion optionally has a tubular tail to engage a dip tube. The upper disc portion has edge recesses that provide communication between the stem wall openings and a zone created when the valve element is depressed. The button has a vertical passageway through the lower disc portion and a horizontal passageway between the two disc portions extending out to the edge recesses in the upper disc portion.

Abstract: A bulk foodstuff dispenser for dispensing predetermined amounts of foodstuff from a hopper. An auger is driven by a handle capable of movement in two directions, while a clutch allows movement of the auger in only one direction. The forward movement of the handle causes the auger to rotate and move foodstuff forward to be dispensed. The forward movement of the handle is predetermined by setting a stopper, thereby regulating the amount of rotation of the auger and thus determining the portion of foodstuff to be dispensed. A spring returns the handle to its at rest position, so that the dispensing process may be repeated from the same handle position. Gears between the handle and the auger allow the handle to be pulled in a more ergonomically sound way.

Abstract: A dispensing container fillable with a liquid includes a squeezable reservoir for holding the liquid prior to dispensing; a nipple dispensing head which is integral with the squeezable reservoir and having a distal end and a proximal end; an outlet at the distal end of the nipple dispensing head for dispensing the liquid from the container; a passage interconnecting the squeezable reservoir and the outlet; and a stop disposed near the proximal end of the nipple dispensing head to prevent over-insertion of the dispensing head into a user's mouth when the container is used to dispense the liquid to the user. Containers that are filled with liquid and a method of making the containers are also described.

Abstract: A crown sizer for a metal hook hanger. The hanger includes a hook-receiving post having a pair of opposing projections extending outwardly therefrom. The sizer is mounted about the post, and includes a body formed of first and second pairs of opposing sidewalls. Each of the opposing sidewalls in the first pair includes an engagement shoulder on the interior surface thereof, the shoulders being located and sized to engage the projections thereby securing the sizer about the post.

Abstract: The present invention is directed to the field of garment hangers, in particular, garment hangers for retaining and supporting lower body garments. Such hangers may be referred to as coordinate loop hangers, which coordinate loop hangers may be supported by upper garment hangers.

Abstract: A coordinate set hanger has a primary hanger with a first body, a hook extending upward from the first body, a first means for suspending a garment from the first body, and a first connection tab extending downward from the body, operative to releasably suspend a dependent hanger therefrom. A connection link having a locking end at each end thereof, the locking end having at least one snap lock with at least one horizontal surface is releasably attachable to at least a connection tab of a primary hanger. A dependent hanger has a body and a second means for suspending a garment from the second body, and a second connection tab extending upward from the second body. The second connection tab is operative to releasably secure the locking end of the connecting link therein. In other embodiments, the component parts of the coordinate set hanger are modular, or may include a dependent loop for integration with existing hanger stock.

Abstract: A strap-type watch band construction is fabricated from a blank. The blank includes three sections. A first section is folded over forming a double layer portion that is stitched and secures a buckle and a keeper and supports a watch casing, which is preferably slidably supported thereon. A second section is a single layer of the blank, extends from the first section, and includes apertures therethrough for receiving the buckle. A third section extends from the second section and is folded over to form a tip portion. The third section improves gripping and facilitates insertion of the tip portion through the buckle and the keeper. The single layer construction of the second section facilitates putting the watch band construction on the wrist as it is flexible and tends to form around the wrist.

Abstract: A belt clip for detachably fixing a cellular phone is disclosed, which comprises a body which has an accommodating part provided in the interior of the same and having an opened upper side, and a guide groove provided at a front side of the same for guiding accommodating into the accommodating part; and at least one stopper which is integrally formed at an inner side of the body and has a certain elastic force for preventing an escape of the accommodated engaging protrusion. It is possible to easily and reliably engage and disengage the cellular phone or the cellular phone casing to/from the belt clip, and the construction is simple. Since springs are not used in the present invention as compared to the conventional art, the manufacturing cost is not high, and a reliable and cheap belt clip for cellular phone can be manufactured.

Abstract: A bicycle support rack adapted to be mounted in a hitch receiver of a vehicle including a hollow upstanding tube having a parallel rod running therethrough, both extending from a lower hitch bar upwardly to a top plate. The top plate supporting a pair of rearwardly extending arms upon which one or more bicycles may be mounted for carrying by the vehicle. The tube and internal parallel rod both being adapted to pivot rearwardly while maintaining the bicycle supporting arms in a substantially parallel orientation with the vehicle hitch receiver. The tilting movement of the rack providing improved access to the rear of the vehicle.

Abstract: A cargo carrier mountable to a hitch receiver of a vehicle includes a lightweight, open-air wire basket supported by a tough metal bracket. The bracket is reversible so that the carrier can be attached to different size hitch receivers. To simplify assembly, the mounting hardware for attaching the basket to the bracket is the same regardless of which size receiver is being used. The holes for the mounting hardware are positioned such that the fasteners can avoid carrying most of the cargo's weight. If the basket is evenly loaded with cargo, it is possible for the fasteners to carry substantially no weight whatsoever. When not in use, the basket is collapsible to lie generally flat against the bracket so that the cargo carrier can be readily stowed.

The clinching portion includes a slider which slides along support shafts to permit a lowering operation of the clinching portion. The handle member includes a roller in contact with the push-down portion.

Abstract: A fastener driving tool includes a housing, a motor, a plunger, a spring, a power transmission mechanism, and an impact buffering portion. The motor is provided in the housing. The plunger is provided in the housing and impacts a fastener in one direction. The spring urges the plunger in the one direction. The power transmission mechanism connects the motor and the plunger for moving the plunger in another direction opposite to the one direction against an urging force of the spring. The impact buffering portion is provided in one of the power transmission mechanism and the plunger.

An embodiment of the surgical instrument includes at least one grasping jaw, the at least one grasping jaw being adapted to deliver surgical staples by a force generated from a force generator mechanism that is contained within the at least one grasping jaw or is in a proximity to the at least one grasping jaw. Another embodiment includes at least one grasping jaw, at least one delivery mechanism adapted to deliver surgical fasteners, the delivery mechanism being located in a proximity to or contained within the at least one grasping jaw, the surgical fasteners containing at least one shape-transforming material, at least one sensor, at least one chemical tissue sealant and at least one cutter. A method includes: grasping a body organ/tissue with at least one grasping jaw, adjusting a configuration of the grasping in response to a signal or a datum or an image, and releasing a surgical staple/fastener in response to the signal, datum or image.

Abstract: A surgical stapling instrument including a latch for securing first and second jaw members together, a cutting member which can be advanced and/or retracted relative to first and second jaw members, and, in addition, a lock which can prevent, or at least inhibit, the cutting member from being moved, or at least advanced, relative to the first and second jaw members before the latch has been closed. In at least one embodiment, the latch can be configured to engage the lock as the latch is moved from a fully open position to a fully closed position and operably disengage the lock from the cutting member.

Thereby, a properly-high joining strength can be provided in a frictional joining of a metal member with a metal plating thereon and another metal member.

Abstract: Methods of securing a thermocouple to a ceramic substrate are provided. The thermocouple includes a pair of wires that define a junction, and the method comprises directly bonding the junction of the thermocouple to the ceramic substrate. In one form, the junction is directly bonded using an active brazing material.

Abstract: A method of making a large Mo billet or bar for a sputtering target wherein two or more bodies comprising Mo are placed adjacent one another (e.g. stacked one on the other) with Mo powder metal present at gaps or joints between the adjacent bodies. The adjacent bodies are hot isostatically pressed to form a diffusion bond at each of the metal-to-Mo powder layer-to-metal joint between adjacent bodies to form a billet or bar that can be machined or otherwise formed to provide a large sputtering target. The number and dimensions of the Mo bodies placed adjacent one another are selected to yield a desired large size the billet or bar suitable for the sputtering target. The billet or bar for the sputtering target exhibits a microstructure comprising equiaxed grains of less than 30 microns grain size and exhibits a low oxygen content of less than about 100 ppm by weight.

Abstract: In soldering processes according to prior art, there is often an insufficient tie-up to a substrate of a component. A method in which no voids occur during the soldering processes is provided. A temperature pattern is proposed according to the method in which the temperature is lowered successively during the soldering operation.

The reinforcement panel may be adhered to the handle panel. The reinforcement panel can be foldably connected to an edge of the handle panel that is distant from the handle opening.

Abstract: A carton particularly well suited for storing packaged dry goods is designed such that the closure flaps that close a top opening of the carton do not obstruct the loading of goods into the carton through the top opening when the carton is placed on its side. The carton includes a front and rear panel that bow slightly outwardly so as to apply tension to the closure flaps connected to the front and rear panel. This tension prevents the flaps from falling into the opening during loading of the carton. This tension is created by vertical score lines in the front and rear panels as well as their associated closure flaps. In this regard, the mechanism to hold the closure flaps open is integrally formed with the carton.

Abstract: A pull type packing box comprises inner and outer containers. The outer container is a tube type box for receiving the inner container like a drawer. The outer container is provided with handles and performs the function of a shopping bag. As the outer container partially exposes a head portion of the inner container, a user can grasp the head portion to open the inner container, and information about an article can be printed on the exposed head portion. The strength of the mouth part of the outer container is increased so that the mouth part does not bend and the outer appearance of the packing box is not deteriorated. The outer container generates appropriate frictional force so that the drawer is not excessively opened and closed.

Abstract: A method of promoting customer donations at a place of business includes providing a donation receptacle including a collection inlet, a proceeds bin, and at least one perforated section. The collection inlet is configured to receive monetary donations. The proceeds bin is configured to store the monetary donations received via the collection inlet. A donation path is at least partially defined between the collection inlet and the proceeds bin such that the monetary donations received via the collection inlet move along the donation path to the proceeds bin. The at least one perforated section is positioned along the donation path and is configured to separate the monetary donations from undesired refuse also received via the collection inlet. The donation receptacle is assembled to a cavity formed in a wall structure at the place of business.

Abstract: A method of processing a check prior to electronically depositing the check includes steps of (a) attempting to print a cancellation mark on the check using an energy emitting ink, such as a luminescent ink, (b) radiating first energy, such as UV energy, toward the check, (c) determining whether second energy is emitted from the check as a result of the radiated first energy impinging upon the energy emitting ink present on the check, and (d) allowing the check to proceed to electronic deposit only if it is determined that the second energy is emitted from the check. Also, an apparatus for electronically depositing a check that implements the method.

Abstract: A point-of-sale terminal may incorporate a security device for preventing penetration of a foreign conductor into a region in fluid communication with a security switch of the point-of-sale terminal. The device may include a barrier member configured to be disposed inside the terminal and to resist penetration by a hypodermic needle. The barrier member of the security device may be a rigid keypad cover configured to be disposed between a keypad of the terminal and an upper casing of the terminal, and may include a plurality of apertures configured to fit closely around keys of the keypad. The barrier member of the security device also may be a rigid light guide configured to be disposed between a printed circuit board of the terminal and a keypad of the terminal, and to provide backlighting to the keypad.

Abstract: An automatic banking machine includes a card reader for reading user cards, and a cash dispenser. A movable camera is positionable within the ATM housing. The automated banking machine carries out transactions related to user accounts based on information read from cards. Service personnel are enabled to direct the camera toward regions of machine components while conducting service activities that are not directly visible by a servicer. A camera assembly includes a microphone to sense sounds associated with machine components during test operations. The generated data may be used by an on-site servicer, or sent to an entity at a remote location. The visual images may be used to enhance diagnostic and servicing capabilities.

Abstract: A method for handling information in an information management system is provided. The system includes a digital pen capable of reading a position code and communicating at least part thereof in a communication network. Each digital pen is associated with a respective pen identifier. The method includes associating an alias with a pen identifier in dependence on an interactive element which is coded by part of the position code printed on a surface. The alias is indicative of a role or behavior of a pen user when the user communicates via a digital pen with the information management system.

Abstract: A system for sensing coded records and structures for sensing coded records are used to sense sheets including notes and checks. An automated banking machine includes a deposit accepting device. The deposit accepting device is operative to receive a stack of sheets and to separate each sheet from the stack through operation of a picker. Each sheet is aligned with the sheet path and analyzed by analysis devices including at least one magnetic read head, an imager and/or a validation device. Sheets determined not to have at least one property of a genuine sheet are returned to a user of the machine. Sheets determined to have at least one property of genuine sheets are processed and stored in the machine.

Transactions may also be carried out through communication with local and remote service providers. An automated banking machine (322) operative to conduct transactions including cash dispensing for users responsive to data read from user cards and through communication with a transaction host (336). The machine is also operative to provide output signals which drive external displays (328, 330). The processor in the machine is also operative to cause the machine to receive visual and/or audio content from one or more content sources (342, 343) and to store data corresponding to such content. Such content is then output through the external displays.

Abstract: A system is provided for customer care intelligent routing. The system includes a mobile device and a server. The mobile device includes a transaction component and an error manager. The error manager determines that an error occurred during a point-of-sale transaction involving the transaction component and promotes the transmitting of transaction data to the server. The server determines a provider related to the error, and promotes the routing of the transaction data to the related provider.

Abstract: A method for facilitating the detection of misuse of an identity during an electronic transaction. The invention comprises at least five embodiments. In a first embodiment, the method comprises the step of: receiving a notification to authenticate the use of an identity at a first location, wherein the identity is associated with a first wireless terminal; determining an approximate location of the first wireless terminal based on cached position information, the approximate location of the first wireless terminal being a second location; determining whether the first and second locations match in geographical proximity; and generating an alert if the first and second locations do not match in geographical proximity. In a second embodiment, an approximate location of the first wireless terminal is determined based on cached position information stored on a GPS position database.

Abstract: An embodiment of the present invention includes a technique for retail transactions. A display unit shows product information on a product. A transaction controller provides the product information. A database stores at least one of the product information and customer information. Another embodiment of the invention includes a technique to interact with a customer in a retail setting. A reader reads product information related to a product. A communication controller transmits the product information to a point-of-sale (POS) terminal. Another embodiment of the invention includes a technique to simplify record tracking of customers. Transaction data in transactions made by a plurality of consumers are recorded. The recorded transaction data is maintained as part of transaction records of the consumers. The transaction records are compiled according to pre-defined criteria.

Abstract: A system (10) and method for recording inspection data for geographically remote equipment assets. A portable inspection data recording device (14) is transported by a mobile inspector to a plurality of locations of equipment (12) to be inspected. The data recording device includes a location detection device (32), and a unique equipment identifier is associated with each remote equipment location, so that travel instructions may be displayed for directing the inspector to the location of selected equipment. Recordation of inspection data for selected equipment is enabled only when the portable inspection data recording device is located proximate the selected equipment. Data recordation may be enabled by displaying an equipment-specific data recordation form on input/output display (40) having selected data field automatically populated in response to the selected unique equipment identifier.

Abstract: An information processing device has a data recording medium accessor, into which a data recording medium is inserted. The data recording medium has first and second operation modes. The information processing device accesses the data recording medium to execute an access type selected by a user in an operation mode having a faster communication speed. If the access to the data recording medium has failed and if the selected access type is a collective data exchange, the information processing device selects a fastest communication speed out of communication speeds at which there is a possibility that data is correctly exchanged in the first operation mode and the second operation mode, and accesses the data recoding medium again. The system comprises: a base including a surface; a position-coding pattern printed on the surface and detectable by an optical sensor; a first area of the surface; and a second area of the surface. The system further comprises a drawing device including an optical sensor for detecting a position in the position-coding pattern; and a transmitter for transmitting interaction data to a processor. The interaction data identifies the detected position. The processor is adapted to determine if the detected position is in the first area or the second area. If the detected position is in the first area of the surface, then the processor interprets the position as a point in the freehand graphic. If the detected position is in the second area of the surface, then the processor interprets the position as a selection of a property for the freehand graphic.

Abstract: The disclosure generally relates to a method and apparatus for determining if an optical scanner is moving. In one embodiment the method for sensing movement of an optical scanner comprises the steps of providing an oscillating system comprising a flexible member, a magnet coupled to the flexible member, a coil disposed within a magnetically effective distance from the magnet, and sense circuitry coupled to the coil; generating a first electrical signal from the oscillations of the flexible member; amplifying the generated electrical signal; analyzing the first electrical signal to determine if the generated signal is indicative of movement of the optical scanner.

Abstract: According to embodiments of the present invention, a barcode scanner platform is provided in which the gain of an analog signal representative of a barcode is controlled using a control loop. In embodiments, an MTF detector generates a value (e.g., DC) representative of a low frequency portion (wide or out of optical focus elements) of the analog signal and a second value (e.g., DC) representative of a high frequency portion (narrow elements or in optical focus elements) of the analog signal. The processor uses the first and the second values and a reference amplitude to determine a gain signal. The processor provides the gain signal to an AGC circuit that provides a linear response to the gain signal using matched JFETs. A noise filter can be enabled or disabled based on the first value, the second value, and/or the barcode scanner platform read rate.

In one aspect, a memory card expander assembly includes an adaptor shaped to be connected to a memory card slot of a host device, and a receptacle assembly in communication with the adaptor and operative to be attached to the host device. The receptacle assembly includes an expanded memory card slot operative to connect to a memory card such that the host device can communicate with the connected memory card when the adaptor is connected to the memory card slot.
