Publication number: 20100287807Abstract: The invention presented in this work creates the possibility of a portable gun—revolver, pistol, carbine, riffle or hand-machine gun, to recognize its owner, in progressive levels of handling safety. Three levels of handling safety are established based on the evaluation of the grip force or its effect through material deformation or strain gage measurement. The first level of handling safety does not allow persons with grip force below a given limit, to shoot with a gun. The second level of handling safety enables the portable gun to recognize an individual as belonging to a smaller group than the first level. Now, the gun will only recognize for a successful firing an individual whose grip force, measured by one strain gage, fit into a small operational range, established and stored at the moment of acquisition by the owner. The third level of handling safety enables a portable gun to recognize an individual, as belonging to an even smaller group than in the second level.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 20, 2010Publication date: November 18, 2010Inventors: Jose Carlos Albano Do Amarante, Roque Marcelo Versolato, Luis Cristovao de Moraes Sobrino Porto

Publication number: 20100287820Abstract: A novel plant created as an interspecific hybrid of the genus Jatropha designated as Nandan-4 is disclosed. The plant was created by the hybridization of the uncultivated Jatropha gossypifolia with the cultivated Jatropha curcas species. The new interspecific hybrid plant thus invented is found to have unique traits that differed from either parent. This invention relates to the Jatropha interspecific hybrid Nandan-4 plant, the plants generated by any means from a plant part selected from the group consisting of leaves, pollen, embryos, cotyledons, hypocotyls, meristematic cells, roots, root tips, pistils, anthers, flowers, inflorescence, and stems from Nandan-4.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 25, 2008Publication date: November 18, 2010Inventors: Koteswara Rao Karanam, Jayakumar Bhavanasi

Publication number: 20100287822Abstract: Polymeric mist control materials, methods of forming polymeric mist control materials, and methods of using such materials for mist control are provided. The polymeric mist control additives are formed of molecules comprised predominantly of monomers that confer high solubility in fuel and include associative groups that attract each other in donor-acceptor manner, and are incorporated such that multiple associative groups are in close proximity (“clusters”), such that the clusters are separated by very long non-associative sequences.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 19, 2010Publication date: November 18, 2010Applicant: California Institute of TechnologyInventors: Ming-Hsin Wei, Julie A. Publication number: 20100287823Abstract: In some embodiments, the present disclosure provides a method for producing biofuel from a feedstock that includes one or more coffee sources, such as green coffee beans, whole roasted coffee beans, ground coffee, or spent coffee grounds. Triglycerides and other materials, such as antioxidants, are extracted from the coffee source. In some example, the triglycerides are then transesterified to produce a fatty acid ester biofuel product. In further examples, the method includes obtaining spent coffee grounds from one or more sources, such as residences or businesses that generate spent coffee grounds. The present disclosure also provides biofuels produced using the disclosed method, including mixtures of such biofuels with other fuels, such as other biofuels or petroleum based fuels. Materials obtained from the disclosed method may be put to other uses, such as cosmetics, medicinal products, food products, or combustible materials.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 25, 2008Publication date: November 18, 2010Inventors: Manoranjan Misra, Susanta Kumar Mohapatra, Narasimharao V. Publication number: 20100287825Abstract: A process for treating organic matter to convert it into a product comprises the step of contacting the organic matter with supercritical liquid whereby it reacts to form the product. The liquid may be heated by an external heating medium, or may be heated internally of the process by co-feeding an oxidising agent with the liquid. This agent can be in an amount that is predetermined to control the extent to which the reaction mixture is heated. The heat can be supplied to provide sufficient activation energy for the process reaction to occur with sufficient speed and for the liquid to attain sufficient characteristics to cause the reaction.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 26, 2008Publication date: November 18, 2010Inventor: Leonard James Humphreys
