Abstract: An underwater connection installation (26) and a laying method for connecting a riser and a flexible pipe (22) that are intended for carrying hydrocarbons. A post (28) is attached to a float (20) to suspend the riser (12) below the surface. The post (28) supports a gooseneck shape pipe (54) that has a bent-over outlet free end (58) ending in a first coupling (60). A coupling end piece (32) mounted on the said flexible pipe (22) includes a second coupling (86). The coupling end piece (32) and the post (28) define mechanical guides including complementary frustoconical rings (64, 84). The driving of the coupling end piece (32) and of the bent-over free end (58) toward each other causes the frustoconical rings (64, 84) to engage one another to bring about coaxial alignment of the couplings (60, 86).

In operation, an axial force generated by a power section of the gripper expands the linkage mechanism, which applies a radial expansion force to the flexible toe. For other expansion diameters, the expansion force can be primarily transmitted to the toe by expansion of the linkage in a three-bar linkage configuration. For other expansion diameters, the expansion force can be primarily transmitted to the toe by expansion of the linkage in a four-bar linkage configuration. Abstract: A grommet includes a smaller diameter tubular section, an increasing diameter tubular section, and a larger diameter tubular section. The smaller diameter tubular section is connected through the increasing diameter tubular section to the larger diameter tubular section in an axial direction. A U-shape folded portion is provided on a connecting portion (a middle diameter tubular section) between the smaller diameter tubular section and the increasing diameter tubular section. A flap section that spreads conically toward the increasing diameter tubular section is provided on an outer periphery of the smaller diameter tubular section or an outer periphery of the folded portion. The folded portion is stretched straightly when the grommet is inserted into a through-hole.
