Abstract: The present invention relates to a method and an apparatus for 3-D display based on random constructive interference. It produces a number of discrete secondary light sources by using an amplitude-phase-modulator-array, which helps to create 3-D images by means of constructive interference. Next it employs a random-secondary-light-source-generator-array to shift the position of each secondary light source to a random place, eliminating multiple images due to high order diffraction. It could be constructed with low resolution liquid crystal screens to realize large size real-time color 3-D display, which could widely be applied to 3-D computer or TV screens, 3-D human-machine interaction, machine vision, and so on.

Abstract: A computer-implemented method for matching objects is disclosed. At least two images where one of the at least two images has a first target object and a second of the at least two images has a second target object are received. At least one first patch from the first target object and at least one second patch from the second target object are extracted. A distance-based part encoding between each of the at least one first patch and the at least one second patch based upon a corresponding codebook of image parts including at least one of part type and pose is constructed. A viewpoint of one of the at least one first patch is warped to a viewpoint of the at least one second patch. A parts level similarity measure based on the view-invariant distance measure for each of the at least one first patch and the at least one second patch is applied to determine whether the first target object and the second target object are the same or different objects.

Abstract: A projector (1) for imaging an original image on a projection area (5) includes projection optics (2) having an adjustable image width (L) for imaging the original image on the projection area (5). A camera device (6) is used for imaging the projection area (5) and generating a projection area image. A comparison device (12) compares the original image with the projection area image and adjusts the image width (L) of the projection optics (2) as a function of the comparison such that the comparison device (12) is configured to determine the position of the original image in the projection area image. The position of the original image in the projection area image is then used as a measure for determining the image width of the projection optics (2).

Abstract: The invention relates to a shape measuring device and method, and a program therefor, that allow measuring the shape of a test object, more simply and reliably, using a single-chip color sensor. An optical low-pass filter (24) expands a slit beam reflected on a test object (12), in a direction perpendicular to a baseline direction. A CCD sensor (25) has R, G and B pixels arranged in a Bayer array, and the CCD sensor (25) outputs image signals that are obtained by the pixels receiving the slit beam. On the basis of image signals of the G pixels, an image processing unit (26) detects the timing at which the slit beam passes over a site of the test object (12) that is pre-set for the G pixels and, on the basis of image signals of the R pixels and the B pixels, controls a projection unit (22) to adjust the intensity of the slit beam. A dot group computing unit (27) computes the position of the test object (12) on the basis of the timing detected for the G pixels.

Abstract: An apparatus, method and software construct an image of a scene by determining distance information to an object in a scene; and using the distance information to correct parallax error when combining at least two images of the object which were captured from different viewpoints. A single image of the scene from the combining is then output, with the object corrected for parallax error. In one embodiment the distance information is input from an autofocus mechanism of a multi-camera imaging system, and in another the distance information is derived from one of an object recognition algorithm or a scene analysis algorithm. The two (or more) images that are combined are captured preferably on different lenslet cameras of the same multi-camera imaging system, each of which sees the object in the scene from a different viewpoint.

Abstract: Systems, devices, features, and methods for detecting common geographic features in images, such as, for example, to develop a navigation database are disclosed. For example, a method of detecting a common text pattern, such as for a road or path sign, from collected images includes collecting a plurality of images of geographic areas along a road or path. An image of the plurality of images is selected. Components that correspond to an object about the road or path in the selected image are determined. In one embodiment, the determined components are independent or invariant to scale of the object. The determined components are compared to reference components in a data library. If the determined components substantially match the reference components, the object in the selected image is identified to be a common pattern, such as for a standard road or path sign, corresponding to the reference components in the data library.
