Abstract: Bed-bound patients are at risk for developing pressure ulcers after lying in the same position on a standard home/hospital bed for an extended period of time. In order to prevent pressure ulcers, patients' bodies need to be repositioned at certain time intervals by other personnel. This involves labor-intensive care, and the friction and shear forces during assisted turning often causes skin damage. The rotating bed enables bed-bound patients to reposition their body easily and frequently, thereby reducing external forces such as shearing forces and friction caused by assisted turning, and most importantly reducing the risk of developing pressure ulcers.

Abstract: An inflatable bed includes a bedstead assembly, a mattress assembly, and an electrical air pump unit. The mattress assembly is disposed on and above the bedstead assembly, and includes a top sheet, a bottom sheet disposed under the top sheet, and a plurality of surrounding sheets interconnecting the top and bottom sheets to form a plurality of air chambers, which are not in fluid communication with each other. Each of the air chambers is defined among the top sheet, the bottom sheet, and a respective one of the surrounding sheets. The electrical air pump unit is disposed on the bedstead assembly, and is operable to inflate the air chambers individually so that air pressures in the air chambers may be different.

Abstract: A cushion or mattress comprising a base and a plurality of linearly aligned individual air cells across the base. Groups of individual air cells can be interconnected and in fluid cooperation with an inflation source, such as a pump. In one aspect of the invention, the inflation of adjacent cells is staggered, for example, in a checkerboard-like inflation pattern that helps diffuse load over a wider area.

Abstract: A compact readily pocket stowable ergonomic grip rescue tool includes pivotally fully opened handles in an obtuse angle disposition with one handle separately gripped with hand and thumb conforming functionality. A leverage force is transmitted from the gripped handle through force bearing surfaces to the oppositely disposed handle having an outwardly disposed generally sinusoidal surface and juxtaposed hook end which engage a seized fire hose coupling. A resultant high torque force is generated by the compact pocket stowable tool to readily uncouple seized fire hose coupling.

Abstract: The flame retardant viscose is obtained by adding silica to the viscose and subsequently fixing the silica to the fibre, such that the final flame retardant fibre will have regenerated cellulose and a silica polymer providing the fibres with flame retardant properties. Conventionally, the regeneration of the viscose mixture is carried out using zinc sulphate, while the final phase of washing of the fibre is accomplished using sulphuric acid. Both zinc and sulphuric acid are highly contaminating products from the environmental point of view. The invention consists, on the one hand, of replacing the zinc sulphate with aluminium sulphate and, on the other, of replacing the sulphuric acid with hydrogen peroxide or oxygenated water, this minimising the contaminating effect of the process to an extraordinary extent.

Abstract: Described are compositions and methods for enzymatic bleaching of textiles. A perhydrolase enzyme is used in combination with an ester substrate and hydrogen peroxide to produce a peracid for textile bleaching. Textiles bleached by the methods herein exhibit increased dye uptake, decreased textile damage, and/or bulkier softer handle than textiles bleached by conventional chemical bleaching processes.

Abstract: The present invention provides two aspects : A ramp which comprises a user support element, an edge element at an edge of the user support element, a handrail, a support connector which is slidably engagable with the edge element, an elongate upright handrail support, and an adjustable elongate depending ramp support. The handrail support and the ramp support are coaxially held by the support connector; A ramp which comprises a user support element, an edge element at an edge of the user support element, and a height adjustable ramp support which includes a foot and two arms pivotably engaged with the foot. Each arm has a slider pivotably engaged at its distal end remote from the foot, and each slider is slidably engagable with the edge element for lengthwise adjustment of the ramp support along the edge element and for slidable adjustment relative to each other so as to set a distance between the edge element and the foot.

Abstract: The invention is directed to a bristle for a toothbrush, said bristle being comprised of a plastic monofilament, with the preferably cloverleaf-shaped bristle body having several longitudinal ribs arranged in star shape and projecting laterally from a core section of the bristle body. The invention is also directed to a brush head for an electric toothbrush having at least one bristle tuft with at least one such bristle as well as to an electric toothbrush having such a brush head. According to the invention, the bristle of the type initially referred to is configured to be self-fanning in such a manner that the cleaning forces acting on the bristles during normal brushing cause the bristle to split open at its free end. As a result, the need to use complex splitting methods and corresponding splitting machines in the manufacture of the toothbrush can be obviated.

The movable contact element holder is driven to move relative to the fixed contact element holder by an electric drive in a handle section which is coupled to the movable contact element holder. The risk of oral mucosa being pinched by the movement is minimized by any one of several methods, such as for example reducing the width of the gap between the two holders, adding a cover member, reducing the movement of the movable contact element holder, and the like. In addition, a low profile brush section is provided.

Abstract: This application relates to electric toothbrushes and in particular to a brush section for an electric toothbrush. The brush section may include static contact elements and movable contact elements to perform a cleaning operation. A head portion of the brush section is resistant to fractures or other material damage which might result from impacts, such as for example caused by dropping the toothbrush. It is structured to transmit forces from the impact away from an interior region of the head portion, to pass through the side portions of the head portion.
