Abstract: The present application describes a device and method for repairing dropped stitches and for correcting errors in previously knitted rows in a knitted article. The knitting repair tool of the present invention comprises a first hook and a second hook at opposite ends of a relatively short elongated shaft for recovering a first stitch and for recovering a second stitch in a knitted article, wherein the second stitch is recovered after the first stitch has been recovered, without releasing the recovered first stitch from the knitting repair tool. The present invention describes various methods for repairing dropped stitches in a knitted article wherein a first dropped stitch that is recovered is not released prior to recovering a second dropped stitch.

Abstract: A method of braking a washing machine from an operational speed to a zero speed is provided (as well as a washing machine incorporating the method) for a washing machine driven by one of a synchronous or asynchronous motor. Upon receipt of a stop signal, collapsing the motor rotating magnetic fields are collapsed for a predefined time period. After the predefined time period, DC braking voltage is applied to the motor stator windings at a controlled ramp-up rate to a fixed amplitude to generate a controlled ramped braking torque on the motor. The braking torque is applied until the motor is stopped.

Abstract: A liquid additive dispensing apparatus for dispensing a liquid additive into a washing machine having a tub accommodating a fluid and a basket rotatably disposed in the tub. A storage container is provided for storing the liquid additive. A tube is used to implement a fluid communication between the storage container and the tub. The tube has an inlet coupled to the storage container and an outlet coupled to the tub. The apparatus further has a venturi member arranged in the tub and in fluid communication with the outlet of the tube. The venturi member creates a venturi effect at the outlet of the tube when the wash basket rotates in the tub to send water or air into the venturi member, so that a reduced pressure is created at the outlet to suck the liquid additive from the storage container to the tub.

Abstract: The present invention provides a method for evaluating lithographic characteristics of a lithographic composition containing a copolymer for lithography without actually preparing the composition. The method comprises the steps of: dissolving the copolymer for lithography in a solvent to prepare a test solution; separating a gel-like substance from the test solution; determining a rate of change of a composition ratio, wherein the rate of change of the composition ratio rate refers to a ratio of a difference obtained by subtracting a composition ratio of constitutional units in the copolymer for lithography from a composition ratio of constitutional units in a gel-like substance to the composition ratio of the constitutional units in the copolymer for lithography.

Abstract: When a deterioration determination apparatus determines a degree of deterioration in characteristics of an airflow meter, a driving condition of an engine is maintained at a specified condition in which intake air flow rate is greater than a specified value. A measurement error of the airflow meter is computed based on an intake air flow rate measured with the airflow meter. The degree of deterioration due to stain is determined based on the measurement error.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus for performing Distributed Acoustic Sensing (DAS) using fiber optics with increased acoustic sensitivity are provided. Acoustic sensing of a wellbore, pipeline, or other conduit/tube based on DAS may have increased acoustic sensitivity through fiber optic cable design and/or increasing the Rayleigh backscatter property of a fiber's optical core. Some embodiments may utilize a resonant sensor mechanism with a high Q coupled to the DAS device for increased acoustic sensitivity.

One face of a liquid container section is structured by a detector in which a first board to a fourth board each configured of a printed board are stacked in order. A pair of detection electrodes 12A and 12B are provided on a front face of the first board, and this pair of detection electrodes 12A and 12B are allowed to contact directly or indirectly to a liquid fuel inside the liquid container section to detect a stray capacitance. A back face side of the first board is disposed with the second board having a shielding electrode 22. Even when a hand or the like is brought close to the detector, the detection electrodes 12A and 12B are prevented from sensing the stray capacitance generated as a result.

Abstract: One end of a float arm is connected to a float and the other end thereof is rotatably supported by a housing made of insulating resin material. An electrically conductive portion, which is for example made of conducting resin material, is integrally formed with the housing and electrically connecting the other end of the float arm to a ground terminal which is fixed to the housing. A detecting circuit is accommodated in the housing. Electric charge generated at the float due to friction between the float and fuel is grounded to the earth via the float arm, the electrically conductive portion and the ground terminal, so that an adverse effect of the electric charge to the detecting circuit can be avoided.

Abstract: A solids circulation system receives a gas stream containing char or other reacting solids from a first reactor. The solids circulation system includes a cyclone configured to receive the gas stream from the first reactor, a dipleg from the cyclone to a second reactor, and a riser from the second reactor which merges with the gas stream received by the cyclone. The second reactor has a dense fluid bed and converts the received materials to gaseous products. A conveying fluid transports a portion of the bed media from the second reactor through the riser to mix with the gas stream prior to cyclone entry. The bed media helps manipulate the solids that is received by the cyclone to facilitate flow of solids down the dipleg into the second reactor. The second reactor provides additional residence time, mixing and gas-solid contact for efficient conversion of char or reacting solids.

In some examples, a platform system for minimizing shock to an object includes a base, a platform effective to carry the object, a number of actuators coupled between the platform and the base and being configured to adjust an orientation of the platform based on control signals, a number of accelerometers positioned on the base, and a processor coupled to the accelerometers and the actuators. The processor is programmed to collect acceleration data from the accelerometers, determine an acceleration vector of the platform from the acceleration data, compensate for the acceleration vector by determining travels and travel directions for the actuators in an effort to maintain contact between the platform and the object, and generate control signals to actuate the actuators with the travels in the travel directions.

Abstract: A method and apparatus for sensing movement resonates a primary member in a flexure mode at a given frequency, thus causing the primary member to have top and bottom portions that resonate at substantially about zero Hertz. The method also secures the bottom portion to a first substrate, and mechanically constrains the top portion while resonating in the flexure mode to substantially eliminate vibrations in the top portion. Finally, the method generates a changing capacitance signal in response to movement of the primary member. When generating this changing capacitance signal, the primary member resonates in a bulk mode at a given frequency.
