Abstract: A method for supercritical diesel combustion combines fumigation and supercritical diesel fuel combustion to effect greater fuel efficiency and reduce exhaust gas pollutants from a compression ignition engine. The invention utilizes the fumigant method by combining two gases (DME and propane) which autoignite prior to the injection of the liquid diesel fuel. This pre-combustion of the fumigant gases combined with the engine's compression of the combustion chamber gases is managed to attain a supercritical combustion chamber environment into which the liquid diesel fuel is injected. This targeted supercritical combustion chamber environment causes the diesel fuel to become a supercritical fluid prior to combustion, resulting in significantly greater efficiency and negligible exhaust gas pollutants resulting from the combustion of the diesel fuel.

Abstract: To provide a vehicle provided with a valve-stop-mechanism-equipped internal combustion engine capable of ensuring a negative pressure in a brake booster while preventing with reliability fresh air from flowing into a catalyst during a valve stop control. An internal combustion engine provided with a valve stop mechanism capable of changing the operational state of an intake valve between a valve operating state and a valve closed/stopped state is provided. A brake booster is provided capable of assisting operation of a brake pedal of the vehicle. Exhaust side negative pressure passages are provided as communication passages that are configured to be in communication with each branch pipe section of an exhaust manifold in a period in which a negative pressure is generated in the case where the intake valve is in the valve closed/stopped state while an exhaust valve is allowed to open and close. The remaining end of the second exhaust side negative pressure passage is connected to the brake booster.

Abstract: An improved throttle body includes an offset axis drum valve and shaped throat. The offset axis and shaped throat provide gradual initial opening for better throttle control and the drum valve includes a lower face matching the profile of the air path through the throttle body when rotated to a fully open throttle position, providing an optimal flow at full throttle. The offset axis drum further includes a slightly decreasing radius. As the drum opens, the surface of the drum retreats from the throttle body wall providing clearance for dusty environments and reducing tolerances for reduced manufacturing cost. A fuel injector pocket position provides a spray pattern aligned with an initial air flow as the throttle body opens providing better mixing at part throttle. The throttle body further creates a cavity under the drum in the closed position providing an increased volume in the intake tract which improves throttle response.

The MAP determination module determines a desired MAP based on a driver torque request. The boost control module controls a boost device based on the desired MAP and a basic boost pressure. The boost device is actuated using boost pressure and the boost pressure is insufficient to actuate the boost device when the boost pressure is less than the basic boost pressure. The throttle control module controls a throttle valve based on the desired MAP and the basic boost pressure.
