Abstract: An image processing apparatus according to the present invention extracts a characteristic value of a luminance in relation to respective fields of an input video, and determines the presence of a scene change between adjacent fields. A gamma curve is then generated on the basis of the magnitude of the characteristic value. When a difference in the characteristic value between fields is larger than a predetermined value and a scene change does not exist, the gamma curve to be applied to a subsequent field is modified such that the correction characteristic of the gamma curve does not vary rapidly. The luminance is then corrected using the modified gamma curve.

Abstract: The present invention discloses a backlight module and a liquid crystal display (LCD) device using the same. Said backlight module comprises a light emitting diode (LED) light cluster composed of a group of LEDs, and a light guide plate (LGP) which is arranged on the side of said LED light cluster and is coupled with the LED; wherein said backlight module also comprises a limit structure for making the position between said LGP and said LED light cluster be relatively fixed. Because the present invention uses a limit structure for making the position between the edge of said LGP and said LED light cluster be relatively fixed, the limit structure limits the edge position of the LGP; when the tolerance of the LGP is upwards and downwards offset, adjustment can be performed by the limit structure and the edge of the LGP. Meanwhile, the local displacement when the LGP expends with heat can be prevented from occurring. Thus, the coupling efficiency of the LGP and the LED light cluster is increased.

Abstract: When a user operates a touch sensor panel having an LCD device outdoors or in a bright environment, light reflecting off the device can create glare. In order to reduce glare, a user can view the device through polarized filters such as polarized sunglasses. Doing so can reduce the visibility of the image displayed on the LCD. A quarter-wave retardation film can be added to the touch sensor panel's LCD device to mitigate these effects by producing circularly polarized light. However, adding a separate quarter-wave retardation film can increase the thickness and cost of manufacturing the touch sensor panel. Embodiments of the present disclosure are directed to a touch sensor panel constructed from a base film having quarter-wave retardation properties that can produce circularly polarized light. Because the base film has the desired optical properties, a separate quarter-wave retardation film may not be needed.

Abstract: A projection-type image display apparatus includes a color separation element including a color separation surface, a light modulation element configured to receive the light divided by the color separation element, a polarizing beam splitter disposed between the color separation element and a projection optical system to separate a light path of a light modulated by the light modulation element according to a polarization direction and guide the resulting light to the projection optical system, and a phase difference plate disposed between the color separation element and the light modulation element. An optic axis of the phase difference plate and the normal of the color separation surface are substantially parallel or perpendicular to each other, in a cross section parallel to a normal of the color separation surface and a normal of the light modulation element.

Abstract: The present disclosure relates generally to an optical element, a light projector that includes the optical element, and an image projector that includes the optical element. In particular, the optical element provides an improved uniformity of light by homogenizing the light with lenslet arrays, such as “fly-eye arrays” (FEA). A first FEA is positioned to intercept and converge an unpolarized combined light before the light is converted to a single polarization state, and a second FEA is positioned to intercept and diverge the converted light having a single polarization state.

Abstract: A projection system for projecting light such as images or content upon a liquid surface such as a lake or pool surface. The system includes an agitation assembly selectively operable to agitate a portion of the upper surface of liquid to form a projection screen. The system includes a projector assembly projecting or focusing light onto the projection screen on the upper surface of the liquid. The liquid is translucent to light, but the projection screen on the upper surface reflects a portion of the projected light due to the agitation. The agitation assembly may include an aeration system with a distribution manifold and is positioned below the liquid surface and has outlets discharging gas into the liquid such that air bubbles for the screen. The manifold outlets may be provided at two or more depths, whereby two or more portions of the projection screen are generated at differing times.

Abstract: A white balance adjustment method and apparatus for a single DLP projector system is disclosed. The projection system includes a solid state light source device, a sync signal generator, and a controller. The light source device generates an output which is a repeating color sequence of at least two primary color lights. The sync signal generator generates a synchronization signal representing a timing of the color sequence of the output light. The controller calculates drive current values corresponding to each of the two primary colors based on a target white balance and measured color properties of the output light, and supplies a modulated drive current to the light source device. The modulated drive current is synchronized to the sync signal and has the calculated drive current values. As a result, a white light having the target white balance is output.
