Abstract: A fluid-driven motor has a manifold with an arcuate seal including first and second valve openings and a sealing surface. A cylinder pivotally mounted on the manifold has a facing surface cooperating with the arcuate seal. The arcuate seal and the facing surface define a position-responsive valve configuration such that, when the cylinder assumes a neutral position, an aperture of the facing surface faces the sealing surface, and when the cylinder is angularly displaced in either direction, the aperture overlaps one or other of the valve openings, thereby connecting to the correspond fluid flow channel in the manifold. A pressure compensation volume underlies the sealing surface and receives fluid pressure from the fluid flow channels through valves, or from the internal volume of the cylinder, so that a pressure within the pressure compensation volume approaches a value no less than a current pressure within the internal volume.

Abstract: Systems and processes for reducing the energy requirements of an ammonia recovery stripper in a chilled ammonia-based CO2 removal system. The systems and processes include a nanofiltration or reverse osmosis unit for physically separating the washed liquid from a wash vessel configured to receive an ammonia slip feed stream from the main absorber of the chilled ammonia-based CO2 removal system and provide first and second feed streams. Relative to the washed liquid from the wash vessel, the first feed stream has a decreased ammonia molarity whereas the second feed stream has an increased ammonia molarity. The second feed stream is then fed to the ammonia recovery stripper, which reduces steam consumption. The reduced steam consumption translates to significant energy savings, among numerous other advantages. Additionally, the systems and process provide a reduction of equipment sizes related to the stripper unit as may be desired in some applications.

Abstract: An additive for producing positive active compositions for lead accumulators based on finely divided 4-basic lead sulphate having an average particle size of less than about 3 ?m and also finely divided silica, where the additive additionally contains red lead (2PbO.PbO2), is described. The finely divided silica prevents, in particular, agglomeration of the particles of the 4-basic lead sulphate, while the red lead leads to an optimized distribution of all constituents of the additive in the battery paste. The use of red lead also gives a cost advantage. Despite the replacement of part of the 4-basic lead sulphate by red lead, the properties achieved in the later use in battery operation are no worse. Thus, the batteries display, for example, improved charging behaviour and a higher high-current discharging stability.

This conditioning of the stucco reduces the amount of water needed to manufacture the gypsum wallboard which in turn reduces the amount of energy and cost needed to manufacture the wallboard. The stucco may also be pretreated with water. This process may be carried out using a conveyor that agitates a moving bed of stucco while the top surface of the bed is subject to a low pressure water spray.
