Publication number: 20130105377Abstract: A method and system for reversibly converting water between an initial ionic strength and an increased ionic strength, using a switchable additive, is described. The disclosed method and system can be used, for example, in distillation-free removal of water from solvents, solutes, or solutions. Following extraction of a solute from a medium by dissolving it in water, the solute can then be isolated from the aqueous solution or “salted-out” by converting the water to a solution having an increased ionic strength. The solute then separates from the increased ionic strength solution as a separate phase. Once the solute is, for example, decanted off, the increased ionic strength aqueous solution can be converted back to water having its original ionic strength and reused. Switching from lower to higher ionic strength is readily achieved using low energy methods such as bubbling with CO2, CS2 or COS.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 10, 2011Publication date: May 2, 2013Applicant: Queen's University at KingstonInventors: Philip G. Publication number: 20130105388Abstract: An advanced water treatment method processes a continuous flow of water in a sequence of stages including pre-filtering [200] to remove solids, conditioning [202] to adjust pH, blending [210] with a recycled dense microalgae culture, and passing the resulting mixture through an enclosed, environmentally-controlled photobioreactor [212] where nutrients, PCB's, trace metals and other pollutants and regulated compounds are taken up by the algae. The flow from the PBR is separated using cross-flow filtration [222] to produce a treated water flow and a dense microalgae flow that is recycled to the blending stage [210] upstream. The body includes at least one suction slot configured to allow fluids and solids to enter the internal cavity from outside of the exterior surface. A structure is attached to a portion of the exterior surface of the body around and extending away from the suction slot to form a chamber defined by the structure and a portion of the exterior surface near the suction slot. The structure is configured to allow fluids and solids to enter the chamber and then the suction slot and cavity from a material being cleaned. Cloth disk filters and methods of treating water and wastewater using the backwash headers and cloth disk filters.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 28, 2011Publication date: May 2, 2013Inventors: Yongming Xia, Jeffrey S. Publication number: 20130105416Abstract: A debris filtering apparatus and method. The apparatus includes a first filter assembly. The first filter assembly includes an outer conduit and an inner conduit received within the outer conduit. An inner conduit flow-path is defined within the inner conduit and an outer conduit flowpath is defined between the inner conduit and the outer conduit. The inner conduit includes a filter. A fluid inlet is in communication with the inner conduit flowpath and a fluid outlet is in communication with the outer conduit flowpath. The filter permits a fluid to pass between the inner conduit flowpath and the outer conduit flowpath while retaining debris within the inner conduit. The method includes passing the fluid through the first filter assembly, removing the inner conduit from within the outer conduit, removing the debris from the inner conduit, and replacing the inner conduit within the outer conduit.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 11, 2010Publication date: May 2, 2013Applicant: IROC ENERGY SERVICES PARTNERSHIPInventors: Brian Robert Whitehead, Scott Douglas Odegard

Publication number: 20130105417Abstract: A fluid deionizer includes at least one graphene sheet perforated with apertures dimensioned to allow a flow of fluid and to disallow at least one particular type of ion contained in the flow of fluid. A purge valve is placed in an open position so as to collect the at least one particular type of ion disallowed by the graphene sheet so as to clean off the at least one graphene sheet. Another embodiment provides a deionizer with graphene sheets in cylindrical form. A separation apparatus is also provided in a cross-flow arrangement where a pressurized source directs a medium along a path substantially parallel to at least one sheet of graphene from an inlet to an outlet. The medium flows through the plural perforated apertures while a remaining portion of the medium and the disallowed components in the medium flow out the outlet.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 19, 2012Publication date: May 2, 2013Applicant: LOCKHEED MARTIN CORPORATIONInventor: Lockheed Martin Corporation

Publication number: 20130105419Abstract: A security product display hook assembly comprising a unique form of product display hook, in combination with a security lock, providing optional levels of product security and customer convenience. The display hook has a merchandise supporting arm formed with a back section, an intermediate section and a front section. The intermediate section is of sharply irregular configuration to allow, but inhibit, product removal, while effectively preventing mass product removal often attempted by shoplifters. The locking device is positionable in front of or directly behind the intermediate section to provide the highest security, with all products locked or an intermediate level, with a portion of the products locked. The locking device can also be positioned at the back of the back section such that all products are unlocked and available for customer selection.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 26, 2011Publication date: May 2, 2013Inventor: Joseph F. Publication number: 20130105420Abstract: A modular assembly for supporting fiber optic splices includes a tray, cradle, and splice holder. The tray includes a floor, a depression in the floor, and a tab that extends outward from a depression sidewall into the depression. The cradle includes a base configured to be seated in the depression. The cradle base has a first face positioned away from a bottom of the depression and an opposite second face positioned towards the depression bottom when the cradle base is seated in the depression. The cradle base also includes a shelf recessed into the first face at the first side of the cradle base, and positioned between the depression bottom and the tab when the cradle base is seated in the depression. A splice holder is mounted to the first face of the cradle base and defines a plurality of fiber optic splice slots positioned over the depression.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 26, 2011Publication date: May 2, 2013Applicant: ALL SYSTEMS BROADBAND, INC.Inventors: Craig Dwayne Ray, Timothy W. Publication number: 20130105421Abstract: A system of outer supports for in vacuum girders driven by two lead screws, supported at the approximate quarter points and a second set of less massive in vacuum girders. The embodiment of the design is comprised of two spherical joints, outer holds bellows, inner threads into the girder, and split coupling. This invention makes changing bellows easier, allowing for bellow replacement without disturbing magnet shimming. This system provides the overall rigidity necessary to maintain the required straightness and flatness of the magnet modules over a range of magnet gaps and varying attractive magnetic forces.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 26, 2011Publication date: May 2, 2013Inventor: Alex K. Publication number: 20130105422Abstract: A fixing device for fixing a data storage device includes a rack, a fixing member, and a resilient member. The rack includes a bottom plate and two tabs protruding from the bottom plate. Two first pins respectively extend from the tabs to engage in two corresponding holes defined in a first sidewall of the data storage device. The fixing member is slidably mounted on the bottom plate along a direction perpendicular to the tabs. A second pin protrudes from the fixing member to detachably engage in a locking hole defined in a second sidewall of the data storage device. The resilient member is resiliently sandwiched between the rack and the fixing member, to bias the fixing member to move towards the data storage device, thereby making the second pin engage in the locking hole.Type: ApplicationFiled: February 29, 2012Publication date: May 2, 2013Applicants: HON HAI PRECISION INDUSTRY CO., LTD., HONG FU JIN PRECISION INDUSTRY (ShenZhen) CO., LTDInventor: HAI-QING ZHOU
