  • Patent number: 8464742
Abstract: An apparatus includes a first valve configured to selectively direct material to first and second outlets and a second valve configured to block the second outlet. The first and second valves define a dead space that has a volume between the first and second valves. The apparatus also includes a pressure compensation unit configured to dynamically provide an additional volume for material trapped in the dead space when the trapped material expands. The pressure compensation unit could include a piston configured to move within a space of the pressure compensation unit, where increased pressure in the dead space causes the trapped material to push against the piston in order to provide the additional volume for the trapped material. The pressure compensation unit could further include a spring configured to bias the piston and a seal configured to substantially prevent the trapped material from passing the piston and contacting the spring.

  • Patent number: 8464745
Abstract: A pressure equalizer for an underwater vessel can include a pneumatic reservoir and a pressure compensating valve (PCV). The PCV can be in fluid communication with the surrounding underwater environment and the vessel interior, and in selective fluid communication with the reservoir. The PCV can further include a valve body and a valve plug. As the PCV opens, the plug moves within the body to establish a path of fluid communication from the reservoir, through the PCV to the vessel interior, to allow flow of high pressure compressible fluid from the reservoir into the interior to pressurize the vessel interior. As the vessel interior pressure equalizes with the surrounding environment, the plug moves within the body to close the fluid communication path with the reservoir, thereby stopping the flow of compressible fluid into the vessel interior to maintain the equalized pressure.

Abstract: Flow restrictors (4), (14) are widely utilized with regard to providing flow control in such situations as with respect to sealing and pressurization of bearing chambers in gas turbine engines. The restrictor (4), (14) restricts a flow (5), (15) but with prior arrangements may be susceptible to deposition upon flank surfaces of the restrictor (4). • Patent number: 8464763
Abstract: A fluid-distribution system includes a plurality of fluid-distribution nodes with three-way ports attached to bleed/flush lines and alternate ports attached to vacuum lines. A first pump is used to draw new brake fluid from a new fluid container, push it through the manifold and ports, and through the bleed/flush lines. Fluid flow through the ports is selectively controlled by a computing device. In this manner, a vehicle's brake system including individual brake lines and ABS systems, may be flushed in a prescribed sequence. The vacuum lines are connected to a second pump via alternate ports of the sequential control valve manifold and may be used evacuated air and contaminated brake fluid from the vehicle's bleeder valves or master cylinder. Additionally, the bleed/flush lines may be connected to the alternate ports during priming or purging of the system. This also facilitates storage of the bleed lines as it prevents brake fluid from spilling and prevents air from entering the system.

  • Patent number: 8464779
Abstract: A heat radiating fin assembly is formed from alternately stacked first and second heat radiating fins. The first and the second heat radiating fins each are provided on at least one lateral side with a projected point and a receded point, respectively, to thereby define an airflow guiding section on at least one longitudinal side of the heat radiating fin assembly. The airflow guiding section includes a first and a second airflow inlet, and a middle airflow inlet located between the first and the second airflow inlet. The heat radiating fin assembly can be associated with at least one heat pipe and a base to form a thermal module. The airflow guiding section enables widened airflow inlets, shortened airflow paths, reduced airflow pressure drop and flowing resistance, and upgraded cooling air flowing efficiency, so that the heat radiating fin assembly and the thermal module can provide excellent heat dissipating effect.

  • Patent number: 8464787
Abstract: A space filler material is used to prevent accumulation of debris that could later foul the operation of adjacent moving parts. In one application a void space that is subsequently closed by actuated parts is initially filled with a material that is highly compressible and has voids that allow it to compress without undue resistance to part movement when the void volume is reduced. Ideally, the pores or voids in the material itself are small enough to keep most if not all the debris from entering and making the space filling material too rigid to collapse under part movement. In an alternative application, the material can be in an annular space such as a seal bore and it can keep debris from getting past the seal bore while allowing hydrostatic pressure across itself thereby helping it to maintain its position until moved such as by shifting of an inner string to which it is attached.
