  • Patent number: 8479494
Abstract: In an exhaust gas sensor control system and control method, the exhaust pipe wall temperature is estimated based on the measured exhaust gas temperature measured, the exhaust gas flow rate, and the measured outside air temperature, with reference to a supplied heat quantity calculation map, wall temperature added value map, and a wall temperature subtracted value map. Then the dew-point of the exhaust pipe is calculated based on the air-fuel ratio of the air flow amount to the weight of fuel, and a condensed water added amount is calculated based on the relative wall temperature and the exhaust gas flow amount. The amount of condensed water is then estimated by summing the calculated condensed water added amounts.

  • Patent number: 8479501
Abstract: An exhaust aftertreatment system having a NOX absorber-catalyst and an ammonia-SCR reactor. During regenerations, the NOX absorber-catalyst generates ammonia. The ammonia-SCR reactor captures this ammonia and later uses it to reduce NOX. A Venturi is provided in an exhaust conduit connecting the NOX absorber-catalyst to the ammonia-SCR reactor. The Venturi draws sufficient air to keep the ammonia-SCR reactor under lean conditions throughout the NOX absorber-catalyst regenerations. Maintaining lean conditions for the ammonia-SCR reactor in this manner mitigates poisoning of the ammonia-SCR reactor by hydrocarbons slipping from the NOX absorber-catalyst during the regenerations. Mitigating this poisoning improves the performance of the exhaust aftertreatment system and reduce the loss of useful ammonia to oxidation.

  • Patent number: 8479513
Abstract: A driver (41) for driving a rotary motor (20) directly connected to a rotating shaft member of a supercharger is mounted on a board (39) together with a control device (51) and a heat sink (39a) and is housed in an engine room. Even when a temperature (ambient temperature) in the engine room detected by a temperature sensor (47b) rises up to an upper limit temperature (upper limit ambient temperature) of the ambient temperature, if a temperature (driver temperature) of a portion of the driver (41) that has a highest temperature detected by a temperature sensor (47a) is yet to rise to an upper limit temperature (upper limit internal temperature) of the driver temperature, the control device (51) causes the rotary motor (20) to continue to drive as the motor while lowering an upper limit of an output current.

  • Patent number: 8479514
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for producing compressed air and for injecting the same in an internal combustion engine, in particular a diesel motor, comprising an exhaust turbocharger. The method has the following steps: determination of operating parameters of the internal combustion engine to identify operating states of the internal combustion engine; production of compressed air by the internal combustion engine using the determined operating parameter in an operating state without combustion and storage of the produced compressed air; and injection of the stored compressed air into the combustion engine using the determined operating parameter in an operating state with combustion of the internal combustion engine in order to increase the pressure in an induction cycle. The invention also relates to a corresponding device.

  • Patent number: 8479515
Abstract: Solar energy is converted into electricity by use of a solar concentrator system, a steam production system, a turbine and an alternator. A boiler is heated by a concentrator dish aimed at the sun. The dish may also be fitted with a polar mount, an actuator and a devise for sensing the relative position of the sun. There is a mast on the dish upon which a boiler is mounted which is heated by the sun's concentrated rays. The boiler will preferably be arranged to heat and vaporize water to create continuous steam that is delivered to turn the turbine which is operatively connected to the alternator and from which electricity is generated.

  • Patent number: 8479517
Abstract: A vapor power cycle apparatus that mixes part of high-temperature liquid-phase working fluid separated from a liquid-phase portion in a gas/liquid separator with high-temperature gas-phase working fluid extracted from a expander and allows the fluid to exchange heat with low-temperature liquid-phase working fluid from a condenser so as to efficiently recover the heat of working fluid and improve thermal efficiency of the entire cycle. The part of high-temperature liquid-phase working fluid separated from the liquid-phase portion in the gas/liquid separator is extracted, the resultant fluid is mixed in a second absorber with high-temperature gas-phase working fluid extracted from an interstage point in the expander to allow liquid-phase working fluid to absorb part of gas-phase working fluid and the high-temperature working fluid is used to heat low-temperature liquid-phase working fluid in a first heater without passing an extracted portion of high-temperature liquid-phase working fluid through a condenser.

  • Patent number: 8479518
Abstract: A system for supplying a working fluid to a combustor includes a fuel nozzle, a combustion chamber downstream from the fuel nozzle, and a flow sleeve that circumferentially surrounds the combustion chamber. A plurality of fuel injectors are circumferentially arranged around the flow sleeve to provide fluid communication through the flow sleeve and into the combustion chamber. A separate cap for each fuel injector defines a separate volume around a different fuel injector outside of the flow sleeve, and a fluid passage through the flow sleeve and into each separate volume provides fluid communication through the flow sleeve and into each separate volume.

  • Patent number: 8479519
Abstract: A method and apparatus for a diffusion tip for use with a fuel nozzle is described. The diffusion tip has a substantially circular body including an outer surface and an opposite inner surface. The diffusion tip body extends from a discharge end to an inlet end. The diffusion tip includes an inlet surface adjacent to the discharge end and defined within the body. A discharge surface is defined opposite the inlet surface. A plurality of diffusion apertures each extend between the discharge surface and the inlet surface, each aperture is oriented relative to the body to discharge a diffusion flow outward therefrom at an angle ? (gamma) measured in an X-Z plane between a centerline of the aperture and an X-axis extending tangentially to the outer surface, and at an angle ? (theta) measured in a Y-Z plane between the centerline of the aperture and a Y-axis extending radially outward from the centerline.
