Publication number: 20130186060Abstract: A two-spool turbojet built up of major bladed components first developped for unrelated turbofan engine types. The high pressure (“HP”) spool comes from a turbofan which powered a large airliner carrying 300 or more passengers across a continent or an ocean. The low pressure (“LP”) compressor is the fan from a military aircraft's engine or a smaller airliner turbofan, or both. The object is that all the LP compressor output goes into the HP compressor, making a turbojet from existing turbofan components. This saves development costs, and creates an engine for propelling a large aircraft at supersonic speeds more efficiently than by an afterburning turbofan. In the preferred embodiment, the number of stages in the HP spool is halved, saving weight for the addition of a remote fan (known elsewhere) which doubles the air mass flow. That increases propulsive efficiency during subsonic cruise.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 20, 2012Publication date: July 25, 2013Inventor: Patrick A. Kosheleff

Publication number: 20130186078Abstract: The present invention relates to a micro-valve which is formed from two firmly connected substrates and preferably has an actuator element, for example that is diaphragm-driven, for the controlled opening and closing of a first and/or second passage. The invention further relates to a method for producing such a micro-valve and to a micro-pump which uses at least one such micro-valve. Said micro-pump is intended to be used in particular in conjunction with the development of an artificial sphincter. The micro-valve has a first substrate and a second substrate which are non-detachably joined to each other in order to form a controllable fluid flow section, and at least one first passage and at least one second passage. According to the invention, the micro-valve has at least one elastically deformable seal structure which, for example, can be formed by a photostructurable silicone, to seal off the first and/or second passage.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 7, 2011Publication date: July 25, 2013Applicant: ALBERT-LUDWIGS-UNIVERSITAT FREIBURGInventors: Thomas Lemke, Peter Woias, Jens Kiöker, Frank Goldschmidtooing

Publication number: 20130186079Abstract: A hydrodynamic machine has two blade wheels disposed opposite each other and together forming a toroidal working space. The space can be filled with a working medium to transmit torque hydrodynamically, by circulating the working medium in the space, from the first to the second blade wheel. The first blade wheel rotates about an axis of rotation. The second blade wheel rotates about the same axis of rotation in the same rotation direction as the first blade wheel or opposite thereto, or is held stationary. The blades of each blade wheel extend in an arc from a radially inner blade end on a radially inner wall of the working space to a radially outer blade end on a radially outer wall of the working space, and in plan view in the direction of the rotation axis the arc is in the shape of a circular arc on each blade wheel.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 27, 2012Publication date: July 25, 2013Inventors: Steffen Kaemmerer, Rainer Schips, Bernd Horlacher

Publication number: 20130186081Abstract: A water powered unit design produces clean electricity, moves and lifts water, generates compressed air and can be adapted to several types of mechanical systems to produce energy. The device uses gravitational potential energy and a unique rocking motion to achieve these functionalities. The water powered units can use a rocking motion to lift water above the entry point. The units can produce mechanical energy to generate clean electricity, can create compressed air, can create mechanical energy for other purposes, and can lift water, for example. The units can use flowing water and gravity to produce a completely environmentally safe energy. The units can be located near any gravity fed water source. Once the system is fully charged with water, the units use and reuse the water. Thus, the units use very little water to maintain themselves.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 22, 2013Publication date: July 25, 2013Inventor: Kraig Daniel Blatchley, SR.

Publication number: 20130186082Abstract: An electric booster in which a rotation of an electric motor is converted into linear motion and transmitted to an output member by a rotation-linear motion mechanism. The output member pushes a piston of a master cylinder to generate brake fluid pressure in a pressure chamber in the master cylinder. An ECU casing containing boards is coupled to the top of a motor casing constituting the electric motor. The ECU casing is offset in one direction in a plane perpendicular to a plane containing an axis of the master cylinder. A male connector is provided at a side surface of the ECU casing on the opposite side from the offset direction side, and a space between the male connector and an interference area of the ECU casing is utilized as a space for attachment/detachment of the male connector.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 31, 2013Publication date: July 25, 2013Applicant: HITACHI, LTD.Inventor: HITACHI, LTD.

Publication number: 20130186084Abstract: Unique engines, air compressors, and pneumatically driven electrical generators are disclosed. The engine employs a rotor having a number of pistons slidably disposed within respective cylinder bores extending into the rotor periphery. As the rotor spins within a stator, each cylinder bore passes a combustion stage at which the piston is driven further into the rotor toward a bottom of the respective cylinder bore. Valves at the bottom of the cylinder discharge air that is compressed by this piston downstroke, and admit new intake air during an opposing upstroke. The unit thus operates as a self driven compressor, or engine-compressor combination, and the compressed air may be used to pneumatically drive a turbine of an electrical generator. A carbon splitter dissociates carbon and oxygen molecules from the carbon dioxide in the air downstream of the generator turbine, reducing the overall carbon dioxide output of the system.Type: ApplicationFiled: January 21, 2013Publication date: July 25, 2013Inventor: Robert J. Publication number: 20130186085Abstract: An exhaust-gas turbocharger is embodied with a bypass valve which is disposed in a bypass duct of a turbine between an exhaust-gas pressure line and an outlet cross section of the turbine of the exhaust-gas turbocharger and which is connected to an actuating device for controlling the throughput of exhaust-gas through the bypass duct. Through the bypass valve, a partial flow of the exhaust-gas can be guided past the turbine on demand. The bypass valve has a valve head and a valve stem. The bypass valve is axially movably held with the valve stem. The valve head, in a closed state of the bypass valve, can be placed against a valve seat in order to close the bypass duct in a gas-tight and pressure-tight manner. The side of the valve head that is connected to the valve stem faces the exhaust-gas pressure line.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 8, 2013Publication date: July 25, 2013Inventors: Jens Kühlmeyer, Dirk Hagelstein, Eduard Lippert
