Abstract: An array of resilient floor tiles is assembled into a continuous sheet after being laid down. An array of included, sacrificial resistive wires is buried along the edges of the tiles and is controllably heated in order to cause welding of the edges of tiles across the paths of the wires to neighboring tiles. Subsequently the wires may be used to give the array integral tensile strength. The welded array is provided with greater strength for resisting use, expansive and contractile forces caused by environmental heat and cold and also long-term tile contraction owing to loss of plasticiser as may be seen with PVC-based tiles.

Abstract: A post sleeve provides a substantially permanent base for supporting a post for a fence or sign, and from which one post can be removed and replaced with another post. The sleeve includes a concrete body that is poured on site, using a sleeve core prepositioned in the post hole, and around which wet concrete is poured. After the concrete is cured, the core is removed, leaving a post sleeve cavity configured to receive a post. The core can be rigid, or can include a flexible shell and stiffener. A preformed post sleeve top can be attached to the sleeve core and positioned therewith in the post hole, to become a permanent part of the post sleeve, once the concrete cures. A drain is attached to the core, and remains in the sleeve when the core is removed, and can be a percolation chamber, or passage extending below the sleeve.

Abstract: The invention relates to a process for sealing an above-ground or underground construction. In particular it involves the use of non-reactive hot melt adhesives and flexible polyolefin films. This procedure in particular has the advantages that good and long-lasting adhesion can be achieved very quickly, and that in particular by using polyolefin strips coated with non-reactive hot melt adhesives, insulating strips can be obtained simply which are non-tacky at room temperature and can be processed and bonded easily at the construction site.

Abstract: This invention relates to a process for sealing an above-ground or underground structure. It involves in particular the use of non-reactive dispersion adhesive compounds. This process in particular has the advantage that good and long-lived adhesion can be achieved very quickly, and that in particular the non-reactive dispersion adhesives that are used have a small tendency to absorb the plasticizers present in the PVC sealing film, so that as a result this process is best suited to assure long-lasting adhesion of PVC films with various substrates.

In the exhaust gas catalytic converter, the proportion (LB/LS) of a coating length (LB) of the second catalyst layer from a downstream end of the base material with respect to a total length (LS) of the base material in the exhaust gas flow direction is approximately 50 to 90%, the proportion of an amount of Rh contained in the second catalyst layer with respect to a total amount of Rh contained in the first catalyst layer and the second catalyst layer is approximately 50 to 90% by mass, and the rest of Rh is contained together with Pd or Pt in the first catalyst layer.

Abstract: A retractable deflector to deflect birds and debris from an air intake duct of an aircraft jet engine. The duct has a forward opening for air receipt. The deflector includes a plurality of elongate members disposed on the duct in spaced relation to each other, each member having two end segments and a central segment disposed between the two end segments; and a plurality of guiding members, each mounted for movement along the perimeter of the duct and coupled to one end segment of an elongate member. The central segment of each elongate member extends between a pair of guiding members such that the elongate member is movable by a respective pair of guiding members between a retracted position and a deployed position in front of the duct. When in the deployed position, the central segments are situated to impede the ingress of debris into the duct.

An igniter placed at an ignition point in the tube continuously ignites the gaseous or dispersive fuel-oxidant mixture while the gaseous or dispersive fuel-oxidant mixture is flowing through the tube thereby continuously producing zero reaction time combustion at that ignition point that produces exhaust and a continuous pressure. The exhaust travels from the ignition point to the open end of the tube.

Abstract: Methods for monitoring and detecting undesired exotherms which may occur in an exhaust aftertreatment system coupled to a lean burning combustion engine are described. In one particular approach, an undesired exotherm may be indicated based on an expected oxygen depletion along a length of an exhaust aftertreatment system in the direction of exhaust gas flow of exhaust gas. For example, during DPF regeneration, a certain amount of oxygen is expected to be utilized for removing soot. If less oxygen is actually found in the exhaust downstream of the exhaust system, then an undesired exotherm may be present, as unintended reductant may be present in the exhaust and reacting exothermically with oxygen. Various mitigation actions may then be initiated in response to the indication of an undesired exotherm.
