  • Patent number: 8534334
Abstract: A pneumatic tire (10) is provided with air chambers which have recessed portions (221), and also with constriction grooves which communicate with the air chambers and a circumferential groove (21), and the air chambers and the constriction grooves are formed in a rib-shaped land portion of the tire. The depth (DP1) of a recessed portion (221) measured from a land portion (211) making contact with the road surface is deeper at one end of the air chamber in the tire circumference direction than the other end of the air chamber. The height of the recessed portion (221) from the bottom surface (222) thereof to the ground contact surface varies in the circumferential direction of the tire. The volume of the space formed by a constriction groove and the road surface is less than the volume of the space of the air chamber formed by the recessed portion (221) and the road surface.

  • Patent number: 8534337
Abstract: A high frequency sewing machine for intermittently transferring a work material mounted on a work material mounting plate by means of feed dogs which perform synthetic circular movement in horizontal and vertical directions and which cooperate with a presser foot to effect the continuous bonding of the overlapped portions of a fiber cloth which are continuously bonded together by means of a thermoplastic resin tape held between the overlapped portions of the fiber cloth in the work material to melt under high frequency dielectric heating. High frequency power is applied between a pair of planar electrodes respectively disposed above and below the work material during the time when the transfer by these feed dogs is stopped to effect the melting process. The occurrence of defective products having burn or the like due to heat concentration can be prevented while obtaining assured uniform bonding strength by using the high frequency power.

  • Patent number: 8534346
Abstract: A modular, water-to-air heat exchanger with flexible tubes is adjustable in length to conform to different size cooling coils and thus provides an inexpensive, retro-fittable run-around heat recovery for pre-existing air handling systems. The heat exchanger comprises multiple heat exchange tubes formed of flexible material in a shape that permits them to be lengthened or shortened by simply moving the headers toward or away from each other. Preferably, the tubes are formed of a flexible, non-resilient material such as copper, and are shaped in a serpentine or helical manner. In this way, the tubes can be drawn out to elongate the heat exchanger or compressed to shorten it, depending on the dimension of the cooling coil in the air handler. One convenient way to control the length of the flexible tubes is to support the headers on one or more adjustment bars, each having a threaded adjustment mechanism.

  • Patent number: 8534350
Abstract: A method of producing heavy oil from a heavy oil formation with steam assisted gravity drainage. The method begins by drilling a borehole into a heavy oil formation comprising a steam barrier between a first pay zone and a second pay zone, wherein the steam barrier prevents a steam chamber to be formed between the first pay zone and the second pay zone. The steam barrier is then heated with a radio frequency. The steam barrier is then fractured to permit a steam chamber to be formed within the first pay zone and the second pay zone. Heavy oil is then produced from the heavy oil formation with steam assisted gravity drainage.

  • Patent number: 8534354
Abstract: A method for deploying a completion string in a previously drilled borehole includes rotating the string at the surface while axially urging the assembly deeper into the borehole. This rotation is preferably only partially transferred down the completion string such that a lower portion of the string typically remains rotationally stationary with respect to the borehole. The completion string may be reciprocated upwards and downwards from the surface so as to enable the lower portion of the completion string to rotate. The completion string may alternatively be rotated back and forth, alternating between first and second rotational directions so as to maintain an applied surface torque below a predetermined threshold. The invention has been found to reduce drag between a completion assembly and the wall of a previously drilled borehole.

  • Patent number: 8534374
Abstract: A tillage implement has gang assemblies of rotatable tillage tools that can be angle-adjusted from the seat of the towing tractor using hydraulic actuators. The tillage tools may comprise generally flat, wavy coulter blades or the like so that the machine may be set up for vertical tillage with the coulters aligned at a zero degree angle with the path of travel of the implement or for residue management operations with the coulters maintained at an oblique angle of up to ten degrees relative to the path of travel. A six degree angle is preferred for the residue management position. A master-slave hydraulic flow arrangement for the actuators assures simultaneous actuation, while mechanical synchronizing apparatus between the two front gang assemblies on the center frame section of the machine assures synchronized movement of those assemblies. Mechanical motion-transmitting mechanism transmits the hydraulically powered adjusting movement of the front gang assemblies to the rear gang assemblies.

  • Patent number: 8534380
Abstract: This disclosure relates in general to a method and a system for directionally drilling a borehole with a rotary drilling system. More specifically, but not by way of limitation, methods and system provide for controlling motion of the rotary drilling system in the borehole when a side force is applied to the drilling system to bias or focus the motion so that the drilling system directionally drills the borehole through an earth formation. In certain aspects, side cutting of a sidewall of the borehole by a drill bit under an applied side force is controlled by a geostationary element to provide for directional side cutting and, as a result, directional drilling of the borehole through the earth formation. In other aspects, a non-concentrically coupled gauge pad assembly may rotate with the drilling system and bias or focus the applied side force.
