Publication number: 20130301999Abstract: Fiber optic devices, methods for producing same, and uses of such optical devices are provided. The method includes combining light conducting rods to form bundles in accordance with predefined rules with respect to a cross-sectional area and number thereof in relation to a surrounding sheath, and are subjected to a drawing process. The strong fiber rod produced by the drawing process has an approximately hexagonal outer shape, and due to the drawing process the light conducting rods also have an approximately hexagonal outer contour. Thereby, a high packing density of about 99% is achieved in the fiber rod. Through a further process sequence of bundling and drawing these fiber rods, high-resolution multi-fiber rods are produced that include several thousand light conducting rods, the diameter of an individual light conducting rod included therein being less than 100 ?m.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 18, 2011Publication date: November 14, 2013Applicant: SCHOTT AGInventor: Hubertus Russert

Publication number: 20130302027Abstract: The present application is directed to the measurement of the intensity and phase of high speed optical signals. The present application uses a tunable optical local oscillator, an optical coupler, a photodiode and RF electronics. The tunable laser enables successive measurements to be taken across the optical spectrum allowing the system to measure extremely high bandwidth signals. The signal generated by the local oscillator comprises a component at a frequency between two adjacent modes of the periodic optical signal to be measured. The local oscillator and said periodic signal are optically mixed and sent to a photodiode, the measurement of the phase being based on isolating the resulting beat frequencies. This approach offers a significant improvement over existing time resolved approaches which are limited to the bandwidth of the photodiode (˜50 GHz).Type: ApplicationFiled: February 28, 2011Publication date: November 14, 2013Applicant: DUBLIN CITY UNIVERSITYInventors: Stuart Murdoch, Douglas Reid, Liam Barry, Regan Watts

Publication number: 20130302033Abstract: In an automatically switched optical network, the wavelengths are assigned to optical path based on their intrinsic physical performance and on the current network operating parameters. The wavelength performance information is organized in binning tables, based primarily on the wavelength reach capabilities. A network topology database provides the distance between the nodes of the network, which is used to determine the length of the optical path. Other network operating parameters needed for wavelength selection are also available in this database. Once a bin corresponding to the path length is identified in the binning table, the wavelength for that path is selected based on length only, or based on the length and one or more additional parameters. The optical path performance is estimated for the selected wavelength, and the search continues if the estimated path performance is not satisfactory.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 17, 2013Publication date: November 14, 2013Applicant: Alcatel LucentInventors: Kotikalapudi Sriram, Mukul Katiyar, Jonathan Titchener, Rajender Rao Nednur, Anthony Vernon Walker Smith

Publication number: 20130302042Abstract: An optical receiver is provided with a photoelectric converter that outputs an electrical signal according to light that is received by a light-receiving region. The optical receiver is provided with a condensing lens and optical filter that are located in an optical path from where signal light enters towards the light-receiving region. The condensing lens condenses the signal light onto the light-receiving region. The optical filter reflects light having a first wavelength that is included in the signal light using a front surface thereof and reflects light having a second wavelength that is included in the signal light using a rear surface thereof that faces the front surface so that the light is emitted through the front surface.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 12, 2012Publication date: November 14, 2013Applicant: Mitsubishi Electric CorporationInventors: Nobuo Ohata, Mizuki Shirao, Keita Mochizuki

Publication number: 20130302043Abstract: Image recording devices, such as electrophotographic devices, laser printers, copiers, and fax machines, often have a cartridge that utilizes an encoder wheel assembly in addition to or instead of a chip for determining toner load. It may be desirable to alter the encoder wheel or part of the cartridge, either by the printer or the cartridge, to permit a deliberate end of life function situation that requires the replacement of the cartridge, encoder wheel, or encoder wheel assembly components. This thereby controls the remanufacture or replacement of the toner cartridge in a way that is desirable to the manufacturer and prevents unauthorized refilling of the cartridge.Type: ApplicationFiled: July 12, 2013Publication date: November 14, 2013Applicant: STATIC CONTROL COMPONENTS, INC.Inventors: Christopher E. Publication number: 20130302045Abstract: An image forming apparatus that is capable of using a residual sheet effectively even in a double-sided printing mode. A control unit controls to perform a double-sided image formation process to recording sheets. A detection unit detects a jam of the recording sheet. A determination unit determines whether residual sheets, which are recording sheets on the conveyance path other than a jamming sheet that generates a jam, are available in the image forming process resumed after the jam is removed based on the number of copies of sheets on which the same image is formed, the recording sheets on which images have been formed on one sides, and the latest recording sheet that was normally ejected. The control unit stops the process and ejects the residual sheets that are determined unavailable from the conveyance path when a jam is detected during the process.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 1, 2013Publication date: November 14, 2013Applicant: CANON KABUSHIKI KAISHAInventor: Masahiro Serizawa

Publication number: 20130302047Abstract: An image forming apparatus has a sheet size detecting unit with first and second arms each moved by contact with a moving sheet, the arms disposed at differing locations in a direction orthogonal to sheet movement. An actuator which acts on the sensor is not moved when only one arm is moved by sheet contact, but is moved when both arms are moved by sheet contact so that the sensor output level when only one arm is moved is the same as when neither arm is moved, and the output level of the sensor when both of arms have moved differs from when neither arm moves. The first and second arms have first and second regulating portions, respectively, for regulating actuator movement, and the actuator is moved only when both regulating portions are moved from contact of both arms with the moving sheet.Type: ApplicationFiled: September 10, 2012Publication date: November 14, 2013Applicant: CANON KABUSHIKI KAISHAInventors: SHINSUKE KOBAYASHI, JUN AGATA
