    Abstract: A multilayer backing composite for armor plate systems. One embodiment provides a ceramic layer and a bonded multilayer backing layer bonded to the ceramic layer. The backing layer can be formed from at least two layers each of alternating elastomeric interstitial layers and UHMWPE layers having an areal density in the range of about 125 to 400 g/m2. The areal density of the stack can be in the range of about 4 to 15 lbs/ft2, and specifically about 6.98 lbs/ft2. In some embodiments, at least one of the at least two UHMWPE layers nearer to the ceramic layer of the stack can have a lower areal density than at least one layer further from the ceramic layer.     Abstract: A pick and place system with an integrated light source to partially cure a light-curable adhesives onto which components have been placed. After a light-curable adhesive in liquid or low viscosity form is applied to a location on a substrate, a pick-and-place head uses a vacuum introduced to its nozzle-like opening to pick a component and place it on to the light-curable adhesive. The pick-and-place head then transmit an appropriate light through the same nozzle-like opening to at least partially cure the adhesive. The component becomes, therefore, at least partially fixed to the substrate and will not shift as the substrate is moved.

The chemical treatment of the pulp, taken alone, is not sufficient to attain the desired modification of the morphology of the fibers, however, subsequent refining or like mechanical treatment of the chemically-treated fibers to achieve a given degree of refinement of the fibers requires dramatically less refining energy to achieve a desired end point of refinement and to impart other desirable properties to the pulp.

    Abstract: A compressed gas cooling apparatus in which gas from an upstream compression stage enters an inlet section from an inlet opening and flows to a heat exchanger that cools the gas. Pressure drop within the apparatus is decreased by providing the inlet and outlet sections with ever increasing and decreasing cross-sectional flow areas.
