Abstract: A portion of a video signal for emitting light is detected, and the display brightness of the light emission portion is enhanced and displayed in a more conspicuous manner, whereby the sense of radiance is increased and the image quality is improved. A light emission detector (2) of the video display device generates a histogram in which the number of pixels is integrated into a predetermined feature quantity of an input video signal; and detects an upper region of a predetermined range of the histogram as a light emission section. An area-active control/brightness stretch portion (4) stretches and boosts the brightness of a backlight portion (6). A mapping portion (3) reduces the brightness of the video signal in a non-light-emission section, which excludes the detected light emission section. An increase in the screen brightness of the non-light-emission section is thereby suppressed, and the display brightness of the light emission section is enhanced.

An input image data independent charging waveform of a charging device includes a period that is equal to the cluster period and first and second voltage states having opposing polarities. The charging device produces first and second charge states on the first and second drops, respectively, of each cluster. The first and second drops are deflected away from the path toward first and second catchers, respectively. Relative velocity of drops of a selected drop cluster is modulated in response to input print data causing the drops to form a merged drop traveling along the path having a third charge state that prevents it from being deflected to either catcher.

Abstract: A controller in the example of this invention operates to perform flushing by ejecting three types in size of ink droplets, i.e., smaller, middle and larger ink droplets, from each of nozzles. Then the controller operates an ink-droplet detector to perform an ejection test to detect ejection conditions. Thereafter, the controller operates an ink supply section to perform cleaning in accordance with results of the test. A combination in size of unejected ink droplets indicates a defective condition of the nozzle. Consequently, varying the degree of cleaning the nozzles in accordance with the size of the unejected ink droplets may achieve cleaning in a shorter time of period. As a result, time for cleaning the nozzle can be suppressed. This leads to a decreased proportion of maintenance to a starting time in an apparatus and increased availability of the apparatus.

Abstract: Improved product labels cannot be easily counterfeited. A plurality of small dots printed on the label are interpreted as dirt or flaw or misprint so that the counterfeit label will not reproduce the plurality of small dots. A first image printed on the label and having a first level of spectural reflectivity, and a second image printed atop the first image using ink having a spectural reflectivity different from the spectural reflectivity of the first image. A plurality of very small dots creates a grayscale field, and a symbol printed within the grayscale field of very small dots, thereby creating a watermark of such high complexity that it cannot be counterfeited. A symbol printed on the label, and a raised dot of ink printed atop the symbol at a precise location to be sensed by finger contact and thereby indicate the authenticity of the label.

Abstract: This application discloses a method and an apparatus for printing a variable data barcode. The method may include a step of printing a variable data barcode corresponding to a first barcode on a medium by an inkjet printing device (S10), a step of transferring the medium via a transmission means to a detecting region (S20), a step of scanning the variable data barcode on the medium in the detecting region to obtain a second barcode by an online detecting device (S30), and a step of comparing the first barcode to the second barcode. If they do not match, an alarm may be issued (S40). The present application can improve the printing pass rate of variable data barcodes.
