  • Patent number: 8635987
Abstract: An engine control system for an auto-stop/start vehicle, comprising: an actuator control module, a correction determination module, and a spark adjustment module. The actuator control module determines a target spark timing for a first time that is between a second time when engine cranking begins and a third time when a measured engine speed becomes greater than a predetermined engine speed after the second time. The correction determination module determines a spark timing correction for the first time based on a target engine speed and a measured engine speed. The spark adjustment module sets a spark timing for the first time based on the target spark timing and the spark timing correction.

  • Patent number: 8635989
Abstract: A method for operating an injection system has the following steps: determining, based on a pilot control characteristic, a prefeed value depending on an internal combustion engine operating parameter; initializing a correction value for the prefeed pump by a safety value predetermined for compensating deviations from a predetermined delivery behavior of the prefeed pump, which deviations lie within a predetermined tolerance range, for guaranteeing a sufficient pump delivery rate; controlling the prefeed pump depending on the prefeed and the correction values; adapting the correction value effecting the delivery behavior of the prefeed pump depending on a variable of the system the value or value curve of which indicates that a desired pressure can be generated in the fuel accumulator, namely in the sense of reducing the delivery output of the prefeed pump, as long as the value indicates that the desired pressure can be generated in the fuel accumulator.

  • Patent number: 8635992
Abstract: A method for controlling the temperature of an injector of an injection system for injecting fuel into the combustion chamber of an internal combustion engine during the standstill of the internal combustion engine involves branching off a partial amount of the fuel as flush volume between a pre-supply pump and a high-pressure pump; conducting it through a heat exchanger for heating the fuel; and feeding the heated fuel to a high-pressure fuel storage (inside the injector) so that the flush volume flows through the high-pressure fuel storage to prevent fuel from solidifying.

  • Patent number: 8636004
Abstract: A CO2 measuring device for use in a high humidity environment typically found in re-breathing apparatus, especially underwater re-breathing apparatus, that allows commonly available CO2 gas detectors to function properly and further provides for remote, continuous and/or quantitative sensing of CO2. Under normal conditions found inside re-breathers, a 100% relative humidity condensing environment exists that prevents the use of commercially available CO2 detectors which typically require relative humidity to be less than about 90 to 95% for proper operation. A venturi mixing device is disclosed that is driven by pressurized makeup gases routinely added into the re-breathing loop, acting to draw and mix with a portion of the moisture laden gas from the re-breather environment, creating a combined gas mixture with relative humidity well within the operating range of commercially available CO2 detectors.

  • Patent number: 8636023
Abstract: A fire suppression wet pipe system air vent assembly and method of venting air from a fire suppression wet pipe system includes providing a primary air vent valve having an inlet and an outlet. The primary air vent inlet is adapted to be connected with a fire suppression wet pipe system and is configured to vent air, but not water, from its outlet. A secondary air vent valve having an inlet and an outlet is provided. The secondary air vent valve is configured to vent air, but not water, from its outlet. A fluid conduit connects the primary air vent valve outlet with the secondary air vent valve inlet. The second air vent valve provides failsafe air venting upon the failure of the primary air vent valve. A fluid indicator may be provided that indicates the presence of fluid in the conduit. The presence of an appreciable amount of fluid in the conduit is an indication of likely failure of the primary air vent valve.
