Abstract: A burner for a gas turbine includes a burner housing, and a pilot combustor having a supply module providing pilot fuel and pilot air into a pilot combustion room being enclosed by a pilot combustor housing having a tapered exit with a throat of a defined length into the resulting main flow direction. The throat discharges a concentration of radicals are and heat generated in the pilot combustion room into a main combustion room enclosed by the burner housing. The interior cross section area of the throat deviates from a circle by means of flow guiding elements provided as protrusions with a defined radial height or as recesses with a defined depth extending longitudinally along the direction of the burner axis to give the discharging flow a defined velocity distribution with regard to a circumferential direction.

Abstract: A means of attachment applicable to mating parts which have substantially different coefficients of thermal expansion is disclosed. The means of attachment substantially reduces the friction between the mating surfaces while still keeping the mating parts centered with respect to one another. The approach is based on radial recessed faces wherein the radial faces slide relative to each other. There may be three or more recessed/raised faces on each mating component, which when mated, maintain the alignment between the mating parts while allowing differential growth of the mating parts. This approach also the provides a much larger bearing surface for the attachment than a radial pin/slot approach, for example, and substantially eliminates areas of high stress concentration. It is thus a more robust design for components that undergo many thousands of thermal cycles.

Abstract: The process for manufacturing wafers includes the steps of mounting an ingot as a work piece in a manner that permits rotation about a longitudinal axis of rotation and rotating the ingot about its longitudinal axis of rotation to permit a microwave device that generates an energized beam to penetrate an outer surface layer thereof. Furthermore, the process includes exfoliating the outer surface layer with the energized beam, removing the exfoliated outer surface layer from the ingot as a continuous planar strip and cutting the continuous planar strip into a wafer.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus for convective heat treatment of thin glass sheets (17) are provided. The glass sheets (17) are held in a fixture (9) which has a processing volume (19) which has an open top and an open bottom. A bottom support system (15) supports the bottom edges of the glass sheets (17) without blocking a substantial portion of the processing volume's open bottom. A side support system (13) holds the vertical edge regions of the glass sheets during the convective heat treatment, thus reducing vibration and distortion (warp) of the sheets as a result of the heat treatment. The side support system (13) can include vertical members (33) having arms (37) that can include lips (73) for engaging the major surfaces of the glass sheets (17).
