Abstract: Methods and apparatus may be used to signal slice skip mode of a multiple layer scalable coding system. A correlation between the corresponding regions of video signals in multiple layers and inter-layer processing techniques may make it possible to infer a slice or picture in the enhancement layer from the corresponding region in a base layer picture. Accordingly, a video stream may be encoded to indicate that an enhancement layer slice or picture may be skipped.

Abstract: This disclosure describes video encoding and decoding techniques in which a first order prediction process and a second order prediction process are used in combination to generate predictive video blocks for video coding. First order prediction may be similar to conventional motion estimation and motion compensation that generates residual video blocks. The second order prediction may involve a process similar to conventional intra-prediction, but is performed on the residual video blocks. The techniques of this disclosure may pre-define the second order prediction to a specific mode, such as a mode similar to the intra-DC mode used in intra coding. In addition, the techniques of this disclosure may combine aspects of the first order and second order prediction into a single process so that the effects of second order prediction on the residuals are taken into account during the first order prediction process, which may improve compression.

Abstract: Embodiments relate to systems and methods for a computation-efficient image processing system architecture. Image data can be transmitted from a computer, online service, and/or other image source to an output device having a set of image processing modules in two or more image paths, including an edge detection module and a video decoding module. The edge detection module can produce edge tag output, and the video decoding module, operating in parallel, can generate decoded video output. The edge tag output and decoded video output can be transmitted to a set of downstream image processing modules, including modules for color trapping, edge smoothing, and other operations. Because earlier processing stages share information with downstream modules which require the same or related data, redundant processing can be reduced or eliminated. Complex image operations can therefore be carried out, and high-quality output can be generated, without sacrificing responsiveness.

Abstract: In layered VDR coding, inter-layer residuals are quantized by a non-linear quantizer before being coded by a subsequent encoder. Several non-linear quantizers are presented. Such non-linear quantizers may be based on sigmoid-like transfer functions, controlled by one or more free parameters that control their mid-range slope. These functions may also depend on an offset, an output range parameter, and the maximum absolute value of the input data. The quantizer parameters can time-vary and are signaled to a layered decoder. Example non-linear quantizers described herein may be based on the mu-law function, a sigmoid function, and/or a Laplacian distribution.

Abstract: Blocking artifacts at a block boundary between a block and a neighboring block in a video frame are reduced by calculating an offset based on pixel values of pixels in a line of pixels in the block and based on pixel values of pixels in a corresponding line of pixels in the neighboring block. The offset is added to the pixel value of the pixel closest to the block boundary in the line of pixels and is subtracted from the pixel value of the pixel closest to the block boundary in the corresponding line of pixels. The resulting deblocking filter has good low-pass characteristics and is efficient for reducing blocking artifact.

An imaging method includes generating a control signal to control a positioner to rotate a radiation source through an arc path at a rate less than 0.5 degree/sec, obtaining a plurality of images that are generated using radiation from the radiation source while the radiation source is at different positions along the arc path, and determining a digital tomosynthesis image using a subset of the plurality of images.

Abstract: Provided is an intraoral X-ray imaging apparatus having a camera, including: a frame; an X-ray irradiator which is installed to be supported by the frame and of which the one end portion is inserted into the oral cavity and which irradiates X-ray through an X-ray irradiation hole formed on the one end portion inserted into the oral cavity; a camera unit which is installed at the one end portion of the X-ray irradiator to image an interior of the oral cavity; a monitor unit which is connected to a camera unit to output the image captured by the camera unit; and an X-ray detector which is arranged to be separated from the X-ray irradiator in the frame so as to detect the X-ray irradiated from the X-ray irradiator outside the oral cavity. In the intraoral X-ray imaging apparatus having a camera, since the X-ray irradiator is located inside the oral cavity, it is possible to obtain an image having a high quality with a low X-ray dose and to avoid confusion in image diagnosis by removing a ghost image.

Abstract: A computer-implemented method for reducing image artifacts in X-ray image data includes dividing pixels of X-ray image data into a plurality of pixel value regions based on a pixel value of each pixel, wherein each pixel value region has a different range of pixel values. The method also includes generating calibrated X-ray image data for each pixel value region, wherein the respective calibrated X-ray image data for each pixel value region is generated using a different dose of radiation. Further, the method includes calculating a gain slope for each pixel value region based on the calibrated X-ray image data, and calculating a pixel gain correction for the pixels of the X-ray image data based on at least one of the calculated gain slopes.

Abstract: A method for determining at least one three-dimensional image data record to be displayed of a target area from two sets of projection images recorded with x-ray spectra using different energy maxima. The method includes recording the first projection image via a first X-ray spectrum and different first projection directions and of the second projection image via the second X-ray spectrum and different second projection directions. The second projection directions differ at least partially from the first projection directions. A three-dimensional anatomy image data record is reconstructed from the first and the second projection images. A three-dimensional spectral image data record is reconstructed by a weighted combination of a first three-dimensional reconstruction image data record, reconstructed from the first projection images, and a second three-dimensional reconstruction image data record is reconstructed from the second projection images.
