Abstract: Methods and systems for detection of a construction zone sign are described. A computing device, configured to control the vehicle, may be configured to receive, from an image-capture device coupled to the computing device, images of a vicinity of the road on which the vehicle is travelling. Also, the computing device may be configured to determine image portions in the images that may depict sides of the road at a predetermined height range. Further, the computing device may be configured to detect a construction zone sign in the image portions, and determine a type of the construction zone sign. Accordingly, the computing device may be configured to modify a control strategy associated with a driving behavior of the vehicle; and control the vehicle based on the modified control strategy.

Abstract: A rear-view side mirror assembly includes a base for attachment to a vehicle, one or more support arms extending from the base, and a mirror head attached to the support arm and configured for telescoping movement along the support arm. A camera is fixedly attached to the support arm so as to remain stationary relative to the mirror base and vehicle as the mirror head telescopes inward and outward. An elongated aperture in the mirror head housing ensures that the camera lens is not occluded as the mirror head telescopes between a retracted position and an extended position. A flexible track covers portions of the elongated aperture on alternate sides of the lens as the housing telescopes relative to the lens.

Abstract: The distance calculating apparatus detects an object distance to an object based on a first object image signal formed by a luminous flux passing through a first pupil region of an imaging optical system and a second object image signal formed by a luminous flux passing through a second pupil region of the imaging optical system, which are generated by using an imaging device including multiple pixels. The imaging device includes a first and a second photoelectric conversion sections. The first and the second photoelectric conversion sections generate the first and the second object image signals, respectively. The first and the second pupil regions have asymmetric pupil region shapes in an exit pupil of the imaging optical system. An object distance calculation unit detects the object distance by a DFD method based on a difference in bokeh of the first and the second object image signals.

Abstract: A multi-view stereo approach generates an inventory of objects located on an object holder. An object may be a sample tube and an object holder may be a tube rack as used in lab automation for healthcare diagnostics. A processor performs 3D tracking of the object holder and the geo-metric analysis of multiple images generated by a calibrated camera. A homography mapping between images is utilized to warp a second image to a viewpoint of a first image. Plane induced parallax causes a normalized cross-correlation score between the first image and the warped second image of a location on the holder that has an object that is significantly different from a normalized cross-correlation score of a location that has not an object and enables the processor to infer tube inventory and absence or presence of a tube at a location in a rack.

Abstract: In accordance with some embodiments, a protocol permits communications between platforms and image devices. This allows, for example, the platform to specify particular types of information that the platform may want, the format of information the platform may prefer, and other information that may reduce the amount of processing in the platform. For example, conventionally, in gesture recognition software, the platform receives an ongoing stream of video to be parsed, searched and processed in order to identify gestures. This may consume communications bandwidth between platforms and imaging devices, particularly in cases where wireless communications or other bandwidth limited communications may be involved.

Abstract: Disclosed is a handshake correction apparatus of a photographing apparatus. The handshake correction apparatus includes a lens support plate that supports a correction lens and operates in a direction perpendicular to an optical axis; a base that supports the lens support plate to be movable; and magnets and driving coils which are assembled on the lens support plate and the base to face each other, wherein the magnets are tight-fitted in assembly grooves of the lens support plate or the base, and wherein one or more protrusions that protrude from internal walls of the assembly grooves toward the magnets and elastically press the magnets are formed in the assembly grooves. Control performance of a correction operation of the handshake correction apparatus may be improved by ensuring alignment between assembly structures of assembly parts including magnets and yokes.

Abstract: Methods and apparatus for visual saliency estimation for images and video are described. In an embodiment, a process includes decomposing, by a processor, an image into elements, wherein each element includes at least one pixel. The processor then calculates a first image measure indicative of each element's uniqueness in the image on a per element basis, and a second image measure indicative of each element's spatial distribution in the image on a per element basis. A per element saliency measure is provided by combining the first image measure and the second image measure, or by utilizing the first image measure, or by utilizing the second image measure.
